Free-kick, edge of the area.... but cleared by Vienna 75 mins Marcelinho has the ball on the right wing, crosses to Caicedo, who nods it down for Aufhauser... GOAL!!!!! Great shot from outside the area and Salzburg should've secured the 3 pts now. But its gone to Rapid and that ensures the title is retained. And there it is. Its been an amazing run-in to the season. I really don't think I fully believed we'd do it, but when Rapid lost to Kapfenberg in week 28, I did wonder. We hung on against Kapfenberg and then were 0-2 down to Mattersberg. We came back to win that match 4-2, but still Rapid were winning. Then we were held at home by Austria Karnten and I though that was it. We then beat Rapid twice, once in the cup semi-final, and then they drew with Austria Wien and then lost to Ried. But the final nail for us was the defeat to Sturm Graz. We just didn't have enough and left it too late in the end. Its been a fabulous rollercoaster. I have to say thanks to flash 3-4-1-2 as that has made such a difference. My own tactics had us 2-2-5 from the first 9 games. So where to now? Actually, I need to do some work..... | | | | | 02-07-08, 04:11 PM | #46 (permalink) | | Backup To The First Team Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Kilmarnock (H) Posts: 125 Thanks: 18 Thanked 41 Times in 18 Posts Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Quite Strange But Anyways Nice Game And KUTGW Mate Dont Write Down Everything Thats Happening In Different Posts Its Spamming Go And Put It In One Post | Feel Free To Use My Sigs | | | 03-07-08, 06:19 PM | #47 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Jul 2007 Posts: 366 Thanks: 107 Thanked 65 Times in 65 Posts Nominated 2 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Well, we finished 2nd in the league but won the Austrian cup. It's the first time the club has won the cup in over 70 years. Naturally I was gutted we didn't win the title, although at the winter break with us still 9 pts behind with only 10 games left, I really didn't expect to get that close. Just before the final league match there were rumours that the board were considering my position! How very dare they! Of course I had already decided to go at the end of the season, but no one knew that - well only those that have read this thread! So it didn't matter that I finished 2nd, it must've been the cup that saved me, as they decided to offer me a new contract. By then I was looking around. I'd been linked with plenty of jobs, some of which I fancied, especially Panathinaikos or Olympiakos, but sadly those positions never became available. Malmo did, so I considered it and applied. Well the proverbial hit the fan and the board offered me the option of resigning before they sacked me. I ignored them and then got turned down by Malmo! Napoli then became available. Fancied that, as a once great team that had done nothing for years - perhaps I could be the chap to get them back there. But no, they chose someone else. So there was no option but to resign. I had a nervous few days where there were only a couple of French jobs going and then Dortmund came up, and then Cologne. I'd applied for the Dortmund job before Cologne came up and I really fancied the Cologne one. Like Napoli, a once great side that had fallen on hard times. But in the end I chose Dortmund. Yeah, yeah, I know I went for the money. They are a richer club and I'm keen to build my reputation. I'll still feel a little sorry I didn't take Cologne, but Dortmund it is. So we're at the beginning of July and I need to assess the team - see what friendlies we have - how good the staff are - implement proper training. Oh, so much to do, must dash...... | | | | | 03-07-08, 06:57 PM | #48 (permalink) | | FMF Donator Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Portsmouth Posts: 364 Thanks: 7 Thanked 3 Times in 3 Posts Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Nice, I like games like this, plenty of options of other jobs, I would of ended up at Dortmund too but would of turned it down because of that atrocious looking kit they have! | Current Game: RC Mol-Wezel Division III Nationale Afd. I'm looking forward to that as I nearly joined them. It's been good having some money to spend. I've been able to look at some of the 'wonderkids' that have been suggested on this site. Already, Arshavin (7.25m) and Jo (13.75m) have been signed. Currently bidding on Gareth Barry, Ever Banega, Akinfeev and Victor Moses. I went after Marcelinho (my favourite from Salzburg) who had moved on as well, but in the end he decided to stay with his new club. Missed out on Saivet, though. I was up against Chelski, and offered 22kpw but he chose them for 8kpw! In previous versions of fm, I've always gone for Adu, Van den Borre and Kompany. Are they worth bothering with in this version? | | | | | 06-07-08, 12:37 PM | #52 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Jul 2007 Posts: 366 Thanks: 107 Thanked 65 Times in 65 Posts Nominated 2 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | What a first half!! Nurnberg were top at the start of play, but look at them now Those who've read this far, are probably wondering 'who did you lose to in yer first 3 games then, cobber?' Well, have you ever heard of sod's (or is it murphy's)law? Yes of course, it was Cologne!! Yes the team that I turned down as not as good as Dortmund, did me, and not only did they 'do me' but I was 2-1 up with 6 mins left and they scored twice!! How silly do I feel? And welcome to this latest edition of 'Bundes-News', and today we have a special interview with the manager of Borussia Dortmund Guten tag, Herr Brannigan, or should that be Herr Less!Ha, ha, ha Hi, thank you, yes the famous German sense of humour Your first season in our wonderful Bundesliga, how do you think it's gone so far? Yeah, quite good so far. It's a great honour for me to manage in this league, and it's certainly a step up from the Austrian league. We seemed to have settled in, playing some good football, so I'm very pleased to be here and confident for the season ahead The Dortmund board seem to have backed you with some money, are you confident that's been spent wisely? Yes I am, we've spent around £25m, although a lot of that will be spread over the next 2 years and involve performance/appearance money. But very happy with players of the calibre of Jo and Arshavin, as well as Victor Moses and Caicedo Yes now those last two have caused a bit of a stink back at your old club, you don't feel that you've gone and plundered their resources now you have a big fat cheque-book? No not at all, the players didn't have to agree to come and play here, and Salzburg didn't have to accept the offers. But, to be honest, they've been selling off their best players each year, which was one of the reasons I left, so I thought that we may as well get in on the act. Moses has already put in some fine performances for England under-21's, and I reckon he's going to be a smashin' little player, and Caicedo's got a great eye for goal. I tried to sign Marcelinho as well, as he'd been fantastic in our bid for the title, but to be fair to him, he had only just moved and felt he needed to be loyal to his new team first, which I could understand. You started well with the highlight being the 6-1 drubbing of Nurenberg, but it's tailed off of late, are you worried about the recent dip in form? No, not at all, its to be expected really. We found that last season at Salzburg, that new players need a bit of team to bed-in. They need to get used to the way the team plays and get to know their team-mates, so it will take a while. But we had a dream start and that win over Nurnberg put us top. But yeah, its dropped off a little, but there's been some injuries as well, so that hasn't helped either. I was pleased how we came back in the 2nd half against Bayern at the weekend, and although you never like to lose at home, no one had put the ball in their net for 6 games, so 2-1 was ok, but naturally disappointing There seems to be some unrest as well, rumours of a couple of players wanting to move on? Can you tell us more about that? Well its only one player really. Alexander Frei said he wanted to win things, and wasn't sure he was going to do it here, but we had a talk and I assured him of our ambitions and he seems happy now. But Federico is a different story Oh? Why? Well I can't knock the lad for his performances this season, they've bin superb, but he's bin complaining that he doesn't think the club'll win the league this season and he's not happy cos we're not in Europe, an all that, so he says he wants to leave. So I've said fine. I only want players who're commited to what we're trying to achieve here. I mean, there were two things that got up my nose with what he said. Firstly, to say we won't win the league this season is hardly inspiring for the rest of the team, and pretty insulting too. Secondly, the reason we're not playing in Europe this season is because the club finished 6th last season. He was here then, I wasn't. I've looked at the stats as well for the past 2 years and he wasn't exactly pulling up any trees then, so he's not completely innocent Do you think that's unsettling the team? Not really, I think most of the players were pretty put out by the comments and feel its up to him to prove himself. We've got some important games coming up so we've got better things to worry about What do you think you can achieve with this club? Well the board have said they want the title in the next 3 years, and I believe that's definitely achievable. They put up some good money too, but it'll probably take that time to really develop this squad. It's really sad that this club has been left to drift. Champions in 2002 and then 3rd the following season, yet since then....nothing. So I'm here to turn this around. But it'll take some time, I mean just look at the talent that we faced last weekend against Bayern - Klose, Toni, Ribery. Pretty impressive, but I believe that players like Arshavin, Jo, Correa and even Federico, if he sorts his head out, can be just as good. This is a young side, don't forget, and one thing we have got on our side is....time Well we wish you all the best and we'll look forward to catching up with you later on in the season Thanks, and goodbye, or as Del-boy would say....bonjour! Err, yes quite, and so that's all we have time for tonight, but join us tomorrow night when we'll be previewing the upcoming clash between 4th place Hannover and top-of-the-table Nurnberg. How very dare you!!! Sacked?!! Your beloved Dortmund club has been on the slide for the past 7 seasons since you won the Bundasliga. All I did was keep it going! 10 matches left, 14th in the league, only just beaten in the Semi-Final of the cup and that's it, is it? I'm supposed to just pick up me cards, leave the car in the car park, and walk home, eh? How very dare you! So where to now? Bologna, Holland, Argentina? Nothing had come available that had taken my fancy, and then....shock horror!! South Africa sack their manager a month before the World Cup!! THEIR World Cup!!!! No surely not, no come on now, get a grip, don't be tempted.....ohhhh no... What was I saying earlier about not being able to resist a challenge? Now I know we've got Germany in our group, but we've also got USA and Peru and....we're at home So yes I took the job, well it'll see me through the summer until something more interesting comes along. So now I've got to find a decent Assistant.
