A few old faces say goodbye, Aurellio goes on a free back to Valencia for a new challenge, Agger heads the same way for nothing and will cost me a small fortune to replace. But in come Aimar and Van der Vaart, both on frees. The last thing I needed was more attacking midfielders but who could resist that bit of business? Offers come in for some future stars...I turn down a £17m bid for Torje even though he spends most of my season on the bench....he is not happy about it and will probably sulk for the rest of the season. My 3rd choice keeper Itanje finally leaves on a free to Leicester and says to the press that he is glad to move away from me...makes it sound like we had some kind of failed love affair....he was a nightmare, asking to be put on the transfer list then changing his mind the following week. The new statdium is built. New Anfield. Can't see me filling that when we get Torquay in the cup but nevermind. £44m to spend....need a replacement for Agger and Carra isn't getting any younger....Garay for 13m but then he throws his toys out the pram over contract details....Roma want 54m for Mexes....Richards looks like he may leave Man City but the sunshine of Madrid looks to be luring him. Spurs accept my bid for Bale but he says he has no intention of moving to Liverpool....fussy little sod... Ok...we're ready to go...the World Cup is still going on but the friendlies are underway. Almost a full squad (Torres didn't get taken by Spain??) and a nice run out against Ilfracombe (I went there on a family holiday once, it had a nice beach) sees a lazy 3-0 win, hardly a sizzling start but then most of my players still smell of sun tan lotion and keebab after thier holiday....next up is a 4 match tour of Ecuador...if playing at altitude doesn't sort out the men from the boys, nothing will.... I am in the same season as you with Liverpool as well. Our games are considerably different. I'm currently training Michele Rigione as a DC, I've got high hopes for him. Perhaps worth a look in? | | | | | 26-04-08, 12:52 PM | #5 (permalink) | | Touted as a new David Ginola: Im an FMF'er, Not a movie star Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: wiltshire Posts: 1,700 Thanks: 227 Thanked 379 Times in 357 Posts | Always a nightmare when you get unhappy players, you'd think theyd be delighted to play at such an illustrious club but there you go. | Signature-Care of Ru Top FMF GFX Artist Current game Birmingham/Spain 2009-10 | | | 29-04-08, 09:23 AM | #6 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 413 Thanks: 85 Thanked 43 Times in 42 Posts | The first game at 'New Anfield' | | | | | 29-04-08, 09:30 AM | #7 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 413 Thanks: 85 Thanked 43 Times in 42 Posts | Pre-Season Contd.... The boys return from Ecuador without incident (perhaps a future feature should be off-the field scandals on tour?) and 4 wins out of 4. The World Cup is over (one semi final was USA v Australia....sort it out FM!) And the first game at our shiny new stadium has taken place aginst non-league opposition, the empty seats were plentiful.... Garay has sorted out his diva demands and joined for 13m and my only left back has broken his jaw whilst on tour (perhaps there was incident afterall) 3 more friendlies to go before the Community Shield v Chelsea, my first chance to get revenge for them stealing the title from me on the last day last season..... Optimism still high..... | | | | | 30-04-08, 11:58 AM | #8 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 413 Thanks: 85 Thanked 43 Times in 42 Posts | The eve of the season Every football fan knows how it feels....another season is about to begin, new signings to evaluate, old scores to be settled.... Well FM manages to conjur up some of this....season 4 at Anfield is about to begin, some late transfer dealings saw Paul Anderson go to Spurs for 7m allowing me to sign Marcelo from Real Madrid. Together with Drenthe (spelling?) on loan I have gone from 1 left back to too many! This season is all about revenge....top for the whole of last season until the final day, I am determined to win back the title, hopefully at the expense of my nemesis Chelsea. Nearly everyone is fit and ready...morale is high....Community Shield v Chelsea followed by Birmingham at New Anfield.....bring it on! | | | | | 30-04-08, 02:41 PM | #9 (permalink) | | Co-founder of the cult Ruism Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Dundalk, Ireland Posts: 2,366 Thanks: 195 Thanked 309 Times in 249 Posts | good luck in the season mate and also for the community sheild | Current Game SV Red Bull Salzburg Austrian Bundesliga Champions 2007/2008 Austrian Super Cup Winners 2008 Hang on I better say "Red Bull, it gives you wings" or ill be sacked | | | 01-05-08, 01:42 AM | #10 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Houghton-Le-Spring, Sunderland Posts: 286 Thanks: 124 Thanked 28 Times in 28 Posts | Doing alright so far in pre-season, i cant wait to see the league campaign now | | | | | 02-05-08, 07:39 AM | #11 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 413 Thanks: 85 Thanked 43 Times in 42 Posts | I was going to wait a few games before any more screenshots, but what Liverpool fan would be able to resist showing this at the moment? | | | | | 02-05-08, 08:52 AM | #12 (permalink) | | Hot Prospect Join Date: Jan 2007 Posts: 59 Thanks: 9 Thanked 13 Times in 13 Posts | Like this one mate, I am a big fan of posting screenies, keep it up and I will keep reading. | | | | | 02-05-08, 12:04 PM | #13 (permalink) | | What Spanish does with a football, I can do with an orange. It all started so well, the opening game of the season: Liverpool 5 (Pjanic 2, Lucas, Aguero, Doudin) Birmingham 0 But this was followed by a less convincing draw at Upton Park: West Ham 1 Liverpool 1 (Torres) I was still top of the league due to everyone else being a bit slow off the mark, but the fixture list was not kind. A tricky trip to the Emerites next. Now I love a bit of passion from my players but you kinda hope the one time Stevie G lunges in 2 footed on someone each season, it isn't going to be when you are already one down away to the Gooners. Garay's second yellow didn't help either. Now that's a perfectly acceptable defeat I guess, especially with 9 men. Home to Man City next and I should be back on track? Nope...already my season is looking bleak...4 games in! This wouldn't be so bad if my next game wasn't at Stamford Bridge. What do I do? Has the AI sussed my tactic? Do I try one more time before making changes? If I lose will this thread come to an abrupt halt? It's early days but this doesn't make happy reading for the board.... International fixtures save me from Chelsea and spark a mini revival.... Wins over Blackburn (3-0) Bolton (1-0) Swansea (2-0) But then the League Cup stitches me up with Arsenal again at the earliest stage....and what's with the refs at the Emirates...another 2 sent off...already more red cards than the whole of last season... At least the champions league form held up, all wins so far...but the league? Yep, it hit a new low... Actually, it got worse than this, Sunderland turned me over too but that's best forgotten! Enough was enough, a change of tactic was the only way to save this...and it works...4-0 win away to W. Bremen and then this..... W 3-1 v Empoli (UEFA Champions League) W 2-1 v Fulham (Premier League) W 3-0 v Middlesborough (Premier league) But this is Liverpool, and another slump is never far away.... L 0-1 v Getafe (UEFA Champions League) D 2-2 v Portsmouth (Premier league) L 1-2 v Chelsea (Premier league) W 3-1 v Derby (Premier League) D 0-0 v leicester (Premier League) L 0-1 v Birmingham (Premier League) By this time, things are getting deperate...for the first time ever I get a message suggesting Stevie G gets the players together for a team meeting...sounds ominous...but it has some short term effect.... W 2-1 v West Ham (Premier League) And a nice morale boosting FA Cup tie and a chance to give the kids a run out...check out the name of this young re-gen who bagged 2 goals on his debut.... Now you would have thought that this would put an end to our bad run...but no, the following game it's back to square 1.... L 1-3 v Spurs (Premier League) Surely this can't go on....Zarate joins on loan from AC Milan for the rest of the season to try and shake things up....can it work?
