Not much change in the transfer window (one of the best periods of the game right?) but Gabriel Torje finally moves on after spending so much time on the bench...I don't know what it is with him, I never seemed to get the best out of him even when I gave him a chance. Anyhow, got £18 plus Emmanuel Eboue from Inter for him, good business I think. Sotoris Ninis also joined on a free (i'd forgotten I'd signed him) and Sissoko, Voronin and Benayoun all get released as thier contracts ran out. I tried to buy Pato from Milan but £41m plus 2 players still couldn't get him so I got Thiago, a striker from lazio, for £18m....think I may have got a dud but time will tell..... I also parted company with my assistant manager. He wanted wages higher than the club would offer when his contract expired...and considering he advised me to offload just about every promising player I've ever had, I was glad to see the back of him. Into his shoes steps Italian legend Franco Baresi. Ok, 2 seasons without a league title so as expected the pressure is on this time...a nice pre-season tour of Italy should get things up and running.... This will do for a start... Ok, so they are only friendlies, but it gets the optimism going... *yep, back to the old skin, I installed the patch at long last for a similtanious new game which has made the font on all the good skins the same colour as the backgrounds...great! So a 100% record going into the season and hopes are high...first game is against Everton and a good start should keep the board happy... Just before that I thought I'd show England's bizarre appearence in the Copa America....go figure? Am looking forward to Brazil turning up in the Euro Championship next...FM has it's little moments.... | | | | | 02-06-08, 10:05 AM | #46 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Here we go again.... Season 2011-12 Opening game is against our Mersey rivals Everton...could be a dream start or head on the block straight away...most of the team are fit and healthy and full of optimism. I've switched back to the tactic that won me the title in my second season and hope that the AI has forgotten how to cope with it. p.s - capacity has been cut for expansion of new stadium...it's only a year old, surely they should have made it big enough to start with? A dream start...team morale is high...I just need to keep it going...next up a tricky away tie at Ewood park then home to the Hammers.... A good start....top of the league and hopes high...what could possibly go wrong? | | | | | 02-06-08, 11:21 AM | #47 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Bouncing back from freak results We've all been there I'm sure...you're playing the bottom team in the league, you are top, un-beaten and flying...yet somehow you just know that the game has already made up it's mind who will win. Watford score with a 30 yard screamer that would go down in folklore if it happened in real life (thier only shot by the way) followed by Liverpool hitting the post 4 times, 2 goals ruled out and thier keeper making the sort of saves that are physically impossible...oh well, what can you do? Well, a chance to forget all about it and try and win a useless piece of silverware.... The board seem surprisingly thrilled at this victory so it may buy me some grace when things get tougher...but how come there's no prize money for winning this? C'mon...£1m would do... Back to the league campaign and a chance to pick up the pieces from the Watford farce.... Much more like it....dunno what's going on, seem to be scoring a ton of goals from corners....never did before with this tactic...not that I'm complaining... Some of the players like that sort of thing, Torres always gets annoyed about it...but I nearly always find it backfires.... I can picture O'Neil's smug face at the final whistle.... Anyway, somehow, and defying all logic, we are defending the European Cup...and the draw has been kind, Sion, Osasuna and Olympiakos...it starts well enough.... The goals from corners keep winning me games... A less kind draw was the League Cup....Man Utd....but at least it's at home... Morale is sky high again...just in time to face Chelsea....already looking like a 6 pointer, hopes were high for at least a draw.... Bo**ocks...dominated the game...3 defeats already and this season, it's starting to resemble last season already... As mentioned, the goals from corners just keep on coming....and young Breno is top scorer in the league! Defence of our European crown continues to go to plan and again we bounce back in the league in order to stay in touch with Chelsea.... A successfull trip to the south coast and another comfortable night in Europe... So despite the 3 defeats, there is enough reason to believe that we will have a strong season...as long as we win lots of corners! I used it for 2 seasons and it was amazing, especially for attacking midfielders making runs into the box and this time around goals from corners! I changed it after 2 seasons as it seemed that the game sussed out how to stop it working.... | | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Jonners71 For This Useful Post: | | 02-06-08, 04:15 PM | #51 (permalink) | | Hot Prospect Join Date: Feb 2008 Posts: 89 Thanks: 22 Thanked 7 Times in 7 Posts Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Sorry to be cheeky, but having a quick goosey about the various FM sites but can't find the tactic. Any ideas dude? | | | | | 02-06-08, 07:39 PM | #52 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | I found it on sortitout.si. It was a really successful tactic but all of a sudden the writer of it took it off the site saying that he was now being paid by one of the FM sites to write tactics so his work was no longer available. I'm sure it must be still out there somewhere...it's an awesome 4-2-3-1 tactic | | | | | 03-06-08, 08:22 AM | #53 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | The red machine gathers momentum All in all the season is going well, if, unlike the board, you can overlook the odd narrow defeat. Goals are flying in, mostly off the head of defenders, and we are solid at the back...a nice run of beatable opponents has come at just the right time too... My goal machine Centre Backs continue to steal the media spotlight... And the League Cup draw is a little kinder this time around.... In the league we are back on top and playing our best football so far... | | | | | 04-06-08, 08:19 AM | #54 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Grinding out results Perhaps the first signs that I'm having to work for results again....but never the less the wins keep on coming and for now at least, I can look down on Chelsea.... Qualified with 2 games to go.... If I can put some space between me and the rest then this could be our year...unfortunatly it's Newcastle and Arsenal up next! | | | | | 05-06-08, 08:05 AM | #55 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | win....win....win It's all very well feeling smug about turning over Norwich at home but when your team starts to beat the big guns you know you may be onto something good... A couple of players are starting to get fed up with a lack of regular football (Hobbs, Mata) and Garay still doesn't like Marcelo but apart from that it's looking good.... Seeing out the last 2 games in the group stage of the Champions League gives some of those fed up players a chance to stretch thier legs... Followed by a gem of a result...hardly ever come away from the Emerites with anything but this takes me to 11 wins in a row...and yet again Breno heads in the winner... | | | | | 05-06-08, 12:01 PM | #56 (permalink) | | Backup To The First Team Join Date: May 2008 Location: Liverpool Posts: 110 Thanks: 26 Thanked 6 Times in 6 Posts Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | wow what a season youre centre backs can't stop scoring lol | | | | | 05-06-08, 01:43 PM | #57 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | I know mate, I don't know what's got into them...they are goal machines at the moment.... | | | | | 05-06-08, 02:10 PM | #58 (permalink) | | FMF's Toon Army Spiderman and member of the Writers Crew Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: wiltshire Posts: 2,501 Thanks: 309 Thanked 637 Times in 609 Posts Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | I PMSL at England appearing in the copa america, that is pure class! Anyone whose played this game a while will know to be wary of games like Birmingham at home, especially after a nice impressive win before it...I was convinced that the game would choose my fate and the machine would finally grind to a halt....but despite it being harder work than it should have been...on we march... Next up is a trip to Spain, the group already wrapped up this was my chance to give a run out to the dis-contented fringe players and a chance to win 6 out of 6 (the draw was very kind to me) Job done and Mr Saivet is starting to turn into the player I'd always hoped he would...then this dropped into the inbox...flattering and for 5 seconds it crossed my mind to declare an interest...but leave the reds? now? nah... | | | | | 06-06-08, 09:42 AM | #60 (permalink) | | FMF's World Football Geek Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Cotswolds Posts: 1,344 Thanks: 483 Thanked 226 Times in 222 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | YOU'LL NEVER WOK ALONE 'THE REDS GO TO JAPAN' WORLD CLUB CUP JAPAN 2011 Yep....the reward for winning the UEFA Champions League is a chance to pack the team off to the far east at a crucial time in the season and try and become 'the best team in the world' apparently. Now I've always felt that FM08 lacks the facility to have players disgrace themselves more. Ok, so we get to fine them for skipping training but in the real world players occassionly let themselves down whilst on tour etc. In a purely fictional sense and in no way an accurate portrayal of actual player behaviour...I'd like to think that on the first night Ever Banega was removed by security in the early hours from a seedy Tokyo bar...missing his shoes....my decision to put Garay and Marcelo as roomates (a little bonding might sort out thier fued) resulted in guests at the hotel complaining of loud abusive behaviour and the smashing of glass....Marcelo was found in the morning sleeping in the lift. Lucus spent the night in hospital after losing at cards and having to eat a rancid squid from a market stall.... Carragher, Hobbs and Gerrard were all last seen in an English theme bar singing old kids cartoon songs and in varying stages of undress at 4am. Ok, back to the football...now my experience of this tournament is that you get matched up against some minnow in the semi final to ensure that you reach the final, so getting paired with Chivas was not what I had in mind....however my team put thier antics behind them and got on with the job in hand.... I know...I was surprised too...even more surprising was that Palmerias managed to get dumped out the competition by the Japanese representitive....thus giving me a good chance of winning the trophy... Nice and easy...and Breno...I want him drug tested...that's his 2nd hatrick.... The players were bundled onto the plane home before they could go to celebrate, another trophy for the cabinet...and the winning streak that goes on and on... Chelsea away next in the league cup...that should mess things up.... | | | | |
