Well an idea just hit me........ With FM10 rapidly creeping up on us, i thought that i would write a short story on my last 11 seasons at the club.
When March 2009 arrived turned up, little did i know that i was about to embark on my best FM09 game ever.
I decided to start a game with my own challenge -
Feddo's 10 year career challenge.
2008/09
My team of choice was lowly Ingolstadt in the 2.Bundesliga. Witht the team predicted to come dead last in the division i knew i had to make some class signings to strengthen my weak squad. My first signing was experienced French striker Lilian Laslandes and former Ducth fullback Daniel Rijaard. I then added young Matthew Spiranovic to my side for a fee of 100k from Nurnberg, this proved to be an extremely goo piece of buisness for the later seasons. In that first transfer window i made 4 other signings to strengthen also, i went with Tom Shutz and Manuel Duhnke both on loan from my then feeder club FC Bayern Munchen. I also signed former Hearts academy graduate Matej Rapnik on a free transfer from NK Bravo.
WIth the start of the domestic season, i thought i would be in for a very bad season after suffering defeats in my opening 3 league games and getting thrashed in the 1st round of the DFB-Pokal. I lost all 4 of these games by a 3 goal Margin. However my team managed to prove they had some fight in them when we visited Rostock and we came away with an incredibly 4-1 win. This was my first taste of victory with Ingolstadt and i truly hoped there was more to come in the future, That match was on the 14.9.2008, We didnt lose another game until Koblenz on the 7th of November. By this point i was hugely impressed with my squad and we sat inside the playoff positions. The next 5 games were rather Inconsistent however, and after drawing 1-1 at Frankfurt we had a 3-2 win over Mainz, a 2-1 loss to Osnabruck, another 3-2 win over 1860 Munchen and another 2-1 defeat at the hands of Augsburg. Over the winter break My lowly Ingolstadt team were just outside the playoffs, i was hugeley impressed with our start to the season.
Over January i brought in a number of new faces to try and charge for an outside shot of promotion being as we were placed 5th. My choice of players were Japanese midfielder Keisuke Honda from VVV for a fee of 1.7 million, Razvan Ochirosii for a fee of 975k, Marco Perez from Chico FC for 140k, Guiseppe Favalli from Milan for 14k, Daniel Opare for 110k and Chinese star Shiao Jiayi from Cottbus for 300k.
I was very proud of my neasly formed squad, and it looked like my signings would pay off as We thrashed eventual league champions Nurnberg by 4 goals to 1 away from home.
In that second half to the season, we only suffered 1 defeat to the hands of Kaiserslautern who would just pip me to the Playoff place. We had a fantastic 2nd half including some memorable vistories including a 6-0 win over Duisberg with Lillian Laslandes bagging a hattrick, And a 5-0 victory over Furth away from home!
Eventually though we were just beaten to promotion. We finished 8 points from auto qualification and just 5 behind Kaiserslautern who grabbed the playoff position. However i was hugely impressed by the season being as we were expected to get relegated. I was Hugeley impressed with all of my squad. At the end of the season this was my player stats of my squad that season. (click spoiler to view)
Lilian Laslandes won top goalscorer that season with 16 league goals, Steffen Wohlfarth wasnt far behind with a total of 12 goals and he finished 5th. Lilian Laslandes was voted Signing of the season and Matthew Spiranovic was runner-up in the 2.Bundesliga that season.
I will do this in season by season updates, so keep an eye out for the next installment!
