Jack Teague was sacked by the Leeds United board after allegations of drug use by the Bristol born manager. Teague has been out of the game since then but has been given a second chance by Wednesday chairman Dave Allen. Jack Teague started his managerial career at German lower league side Burghausen, where he won 17 games, drew 11 and lost 4. He was then offered the Leeds United job with 2 games to go in the German season, Gus Poyet the man sacked by Leeds for finishing 1 point off the play-offs. Jack Teague made changes at Leeds, bringing favoured forward Daniel Sikorski after he managed him for a brief loan spell at Burghausen. Leeds were expected to mount a serious title challenge but Teague couldn't get the best from his players. After a defeat to Northampton Teague was abruptly sacked despite Leeds in with a good chance of making the play-offs. At the time it was thought that poor performances were the reason for Teague's departure, but later it was revealed as sacking due to breach of club policy. Teague had been involved in the selling of drugs and was on trial during March 2009. Although Teague wasn't convicted he had lost his job and maybe his career. Teague now has a chance to start again at Sheffield Wednesday who have been unable to break back into the Championship after two play-off exits. Sheffield Wednesday currently lie 7th in the table with 13 games remaining. | | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to treva For This Useful Post: | | 29-08-08, 09:32 PM | #2 (permalink) | | FMF Accountant - Here To Help Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Southampton Posts: 1,583 Thanks: 151 Thanked 458 Times in 334 Posts Nominated 11 Times in 2 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 1 | Would you actually get sacked if you use drugs as a manager anyway? It's against the law for a start and so I doubt a team wants a manager who is doing something illegal. Wednesday left it 4 minutes into injury time to equalise in a game that they dominated from start to finish. Today's match was the first game in charge for new boss Jack Teague. Things started badly for Teague's men as Enoch Showunmi opened things up just 7 minutes in. A great individual effort from Showunmi who took the ball down the left hand side and drilled a shot past Lee Grant from a tight angle. Sheffield Wednesday had all the chances, but largely thanks to Mark Goodlad in the Port Vale goal, they couldn't find the back of the net. Francis Jeffers wasted 4 glorious chances and was subbed with 20 minutes to go for Patrick Deane. The substitution proved to be a good one as late in injury time he struck. A through ball by Neil Mellor saw Deane in space just inside the box. He rifled a right footed shot into the corner of the net to grab a point for his side. __________________________________________ Sheffield Wednesday manager Jack Teague "The lads were good today and I felt we deserved more than a point." "We played as a unit and we created many chances. Goodlad was good in goal for them today and it took a good late strike to beat him." "Promising signs that we can make the play-offs and hopefully get back into the Championship, which is where this side belongs." Port Vale manager James Barry on the late goal "I can't think why we had 4 minutes of time added on. There were no injuries or stoppages in play." "I think we defended well today. They had a lot of shots but we kept them out for 90 minutes." "Goodlad was exceptional today. He deserved a clean sheet but unfortunately it was not to be." __________________________________________ Port Vale: Goodlad, Perch (Alexander 90), Morgan, Oji, Coughlan, Dalglish, Smith, Westlake (Wood 90), Rocastle, Richman, Showunmi (Law 74). Steve Farrell was the top performer netting 2 goals and setting up another in a fine display by the reserve striker. The Owls went 3-0 up after just 33 minutes and after a sending off for Nuneaton's Alan Saunders it was game over. Sean McAllister also scored 2 goals and Mukhtar Mohammed got the other in a comprehensive victory by the reserves. Russell Wilcox was very pleased with the team's performance as the side moves to 4th place in Group 3. "We outclassed them from start to finish. Our defence was superb allowing only 1 shot on goal. It was good to see us put a few on the board as well. A good performance from the lads." Wilcox pointed out 17 year old Steve Farrell as one for the future. "He's really progressing. He's scored a few goals and looks very promising. One for the future for sure." Wednesday play Leeds at home on Saturday in what will be even more heated due to the fact that Leeds sacked Teague last season. Teague told the website that he can't wait to face Leeds on Saturday in an exclusive interview. "I am really looking forward to it. It would fantastic to beat my ex-team, but there is definitely no hard feelings. It will be great talking to a few of the players and I'm sure I'll have a good chat with David Platt." "They are top of the league and so it will be a tough game. One advantage of facing an old side is that you know the players' strengths and weaknesses," said Teague. "It would be a great result if we won, and I'm sure the fans would love nothing more than a victory against our rivals." Teague also spoke highly of Leeds striker Daniel Sikorski. "I brought him to England after his loan spell with me at Burghausen. He's a fantastic player and he has improved even more since I left. He will be a threat but I am more than confident that our defenders can mark him well." | | | | | 31-08-08, 05:38 PM | #18 (permalink) | | Indispensable To FMF Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Sheffield Posts: 1,520 Thanks: 430 Thanked 308 Times in 292 Posts Nominated 6 Times in 2 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | You have to beat Leeds mate, Its a matter of pride. | This is for you James, hope you like it | | | 31-08-08, 07:26 PM | #19 (permalink) | | Backup To The First Team Join Date: Mar 2008 Posts: 150 Thanks: 19 Thanked 26 Times in 26 Posts Nominated 3 Times in 2 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Leeds match preview posted on: Fri 19 Feb 2010 Vice-captain Richard Wood returns to the back Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds League One Hillsborough 3.00pm Owls team news There are a few changes again from the 1-1 draw away at Port Vale. Leeds team news Leeds come into the game top of the table and looking to add to their lead. David Platt has made two changes from the team that beat Millwall 3-2 in the week. Deane Smalley hit two goals and Alan McCormack one to cancel out John Spicer's first half goal, and record a memorable victory. Things started well for Sheffield Wednesday when Deane Smalley opened the scoring 11 minutes in. A counter attack from Wednesday caught Leeds napping and a superb through ball by Etienne Esajas to Smalley split the defence. Smalley slotted it past a diving Nesterov to send the home fans into raptures. On 39 minutes it was all level thanks to a neat finish by Leeds midfielder John Spicer. A Jamie Adams free kick hit the wall and fell to Daniel Sikorski. Sikorski pulled the ball back for Spicer who placed a left footed shot into the bottom left corner from 15 yards. The score stayed at 1-1 until the hour mark when Smalley put his side ahead for the second time in the game. A curling free kick by Alan McCormack was headed down by Esajas which found it's way to Smalley on the edge of the area. Smalley managed to slot the ball just inside the left post and once again send Wednesday's fans wild. Four minutes later their lead was doubled. A cross by Jermaine Johnson looked to be heading to the feet of Smalley in the area. Gary Doherty stuck out a leg and tripped the Wednesday striker who went down and was awarded a penalty. Alan McCormack stepped up and blasted the penalty into the roof of the net to make it 3-1. 10 minutes from time McCormack was sent off for a second bookable offence. The dismissal didn't change anything as Sheffield Wednesday held on for a valuable 3-1 victory. __________________________________________ Jack Teague, Sheffield Wednesday manager "What a great victory. I couldn't have asked anything more from the boys!" "It's a fantastic feeling to beat the leaders but even better to defeat your old club." "If we continue like this then I'm 100% sure we can make the play-offs." Leeds United manager David Platt "Today was always going to be a tough game and they proved to us just that." "Of course I'm disappointed with the loss, but we have to put today's game past us and make sure we focus on our next game." __________________________________________ Sheffield Wednesday: Grant, Hinds, Jackson, Wood, Chalwe (O'Hanlon 71), Johnson, Esajas, McCormack, Craig, Smalley, Mellor (Deane 71).
