June 2007(The Journey Begins) Breaking news! the governing football body of Zimbabwe (ZIFA) have anounced the arrival of an exciting young Croatian manager., Coach Background. Born in Zagreb on 8/8/1977 he was former NK Dinamo player and was capped 17 times in the Yugoslavia U21 team, his career was cut short due to a horrific tackle by Slavko Juric in the HNL back in 1993, he failed to gain a single senior cap for Yugoslavia or the newly formed republic of croatia. he had this to say on his arrival to manage the nation of Zimbabwe's football team. I Am delighted to be back into football at the highest level, as many of you know this is my first managerial position, and i will strive to do my best to bring hope to this great nation through the power of football. Reporter: What are your expectations the the team? do you feel you can make it to a major tournament Of Course we can, my aim is to qualify for the 2010 world cup, we have have a fantastic set of players, the right mix between experience and youth, we have a couple of brilliant players in this nation that can bring us glory! thanks that will be all for now, i will speak to you again soon | | | | 23-08-08, 09:00 PM | #2 (permalink) | | vBookie Team, Member of the Ozza Family Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Cheshire Posts: 2,798 Thanks: 654 Thanked 438 Times in 360 Posts Nominated 5 Times in 1 Post TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Good start, nice to see someone else managing a nation. Squad assesment I called a 5 day training camp for my senior team to assess what players were at my disposal for the African nations qualification match against Tanzania, i wanted to do this training camp outside of Zimbabwe, i chose Madagascar for the trip. we were currently 1 point behind Tanzania and 3 points behind group leaders South Africa. And i need to qualify, my job depends on it. The ZIFA Commitee have told me that they expect qualification to the championships. In my opinion i have found that my best players i have in the team are: Veteren Forward Record caps and record goalscorer Peter Ndlovu Man City Striker Benjani Strong Midfielder Esrom Nyandoro and finally Tenacious Midfielder Nengomashe except for these few players the rest of my squad looked rather average, and i am hoping that i can live up to the expectaion that has been put upon my shoulders. failure is not an option. I have seen what happens to those who fail in this country. These seens of bloodshed are becomming a regular occurance in the troubled nation, what can stop this Terrible government feud and bring peace to the nation? My Personal assistant Lee Thacker was caught in the crossfire this morning unfortunatly he was killed in the bloodshed and died instantly. He was a good friend and was the main reason for me accepting this job. After this shocking incident this morning i was seriously considering leaving Zimbabwe and looking for a new team to manage. I changed my mind however when i visited a local school, and the kids seemed to look up to me, as if i could finally bring them some joy in their miserable day-to-day lives, so i decided. I would stay and i would qualify for the african nation cup, if i failed, i knew what might happen to me.................. | | | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | | | |
