'Mr.Scully would like to see you in his office.' said Karen, the secretary. I aimlessly wandered towards the Chairman's office, knowing what was coming. Talk of me being sacked had been rife for months now. Finally, Paul Scully had a good reason to get rid of me. I opened his door and saw him and a few members of the board sitting down on his long table, Scully at the top. 'Sit down, Daniel.' the Chairman said casually. I did as he said. 'Now, Daniel, as we both know, the club hasn't been performing well of late. Well actually, we've been crap. And it just isn't good enough for a side with high expectations. More to the point, clear your desk, your sacked.' I stood up, turned round, and mooned at Scully and the board members. I stomped off into my former office, did a dump in one of the drawers, picked up my laptop and left. I got a 2,500 pound fine for it, but it was worth it. 5 Years Later . . . *Bing Bong* 'Would Daniel please come to the tills.' said my colleague Janet. Yeah, I was working at 'Asda'. When I arrived at the tills, the first person to come over with his trolley was an Asian bloke. 'Hello, are you Daniel Worrall by any chance?' he asked. 'Yeah, yes I am.' whether he recognised me from my days with Gillingham or he simply read my name badge I didn't know. 'Former Gillingham manager, right?' he asked. This didn't happen often, if ever. 'Yep.' I answered. 'Guess you don't work in football anymore then?' he replied. 'Well, if you count playing for my local sunday league side as 'working in football' then yeah.' I said smartly. 'Well, have you heard of the country Chinese Taipei?' I looked at him, with a confused expression on my face. 'No, sorry.' *Bing Bong* 'Can I have a price check on 'Always' Tampons please.' I said on the loudspeaker. 'Don't ask' said the man, disgruntedly. 'Anyway, if you want to possibly get back into football, give me your phone number and i'll ring you tomorrow.' This was the perfect opportunity to use my cards that I made. I handed him one of the cards. 'Daniel Worrall, ex-football manager. Sad mate, sad. Anyway, I best be off, i'm holding up the queue.' I looked back and saw a massive queue of people looking rather ticked off. 'Daniel wake up you lazy shit! Seriously, if you think you can manage a football team then you can't sleep until 11!' the man from Asda shouted. 'Okay, okay, i'm up. Who is it?' I replied sleepily. 'It's Mr. Chen from the supermarket! Get dressed and meet me at 'Costa Coffee' in an hour.' he said. 'Wait a...' Chen had hung up. I fell out of bed and shoved on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt before sloping downstairs to look at my post, bill, bill, bill. I shoved a piece of toast into the toaster and looked at the local paper. "Teenager stabbed to death." That's becoming an ever popular news headline in recent months. Finally I picked up my keys before heading out of the house. I arrived at Costa Coffee to see Yongqiang Chen waiting for me with 2 cups of coffee in front of him. 'They both for you?' I asked, whilst approaching the table. He slid one across the table. 'So, what's this you were saying yesterday about you being able to get me a job in football?' I asked looking intruiged as ever. 'Well, I spoke to the Chairman of the Chinese Taipei Football Association and told him about your credentials and he would like to put you in charge of the national side. And to make it so you can't refuse, he will pay for you to fly to Beijing for this summers olympic games.' he answered excitedly. 'Great! How much money we talking?' I asked. '300 English Pounds per week. But no doubt you can get a job with a club side too? We have a plane waiting for you in a few hours at Heathrow airport, I will escort you all the way to the Chinese Taipei.' He is from Chinese Taipei, and what Daniel doesn't know, is that Chen is the Assistant Manager of the Chinese Taipei national football team. As you can see he looks like an exciting young man, that is true. Actually, Yongqiang is a bit of a party animal, he almost lost his job once after being caught with some prostitutes in his former boss' office. But when it comes to work he is much more proffesional, as well as helping out the head coach he likes to to a bit of scouting, looking for the next David Beckham of Chinese Taipei. That's hard to do, more like the next Kun-Chi-Lu, a legend in those parts. The 33 year old started his football career with Taipower, the best side in his home country, where he had a great goalscoring record, scoring 98 goals in 134 games for the amateur side. He was eventually picked up by Hong Kong side Happy Valley, which is quite a move for a young lad from Chinese Taipei. His career was ended at the age 27 by an injury in training. Just a year later he was hired as the Assistant Manager of his national side. Despite being offered the managerial post on numerous occasions, Chen is happy being the Assistant Manager and has left the post vacant for anyone else. Apart from this, Chen enjoys long walks on the beach and is single, he recently got divorced. We headed towards Heathrow airport, which was about 40 miles away. I couldn't help but notice that there was 4 empty cans of Carling on the back seat. 'Have you been drinking?' I asked. 'What? No, no, ofcourse not. There my friends, I was giving him a lift before and he brought them in with him.' I could smell it on his breath. We arrived at the airport just 10 minutes before we had to board. 'Sorry mate, you can't take that keyring on with you.' said the security guard as he searched me. 'Why what am I going to do with it, stab someone? I replied. 'Well, you never know.' he let me on without the keyring but with the keys. What a tool. We finally got on the plane, we were flying first class by the way, courtesy of the mystery Chinese Taipei Chairman. It was long haul, straight to Taiwan, which is now called Chinese Taipei. 9 Hours Later... I won't even comment on the flight, first class is supposed to be luxurious. There were 2 German kids running around screaming, I couldn't sleep and I was sick on numerous occasions. When we got off the plane there was a man waiting for us who said his name Huang Bum-Suk, I almost pissed myself. I didn't dare break into any form of laughter because he was 6'6" and looked like a wrestler.
