Newcastle Owner, Mike Ashley, and Chairman, Chris Mort, have appointed former Newcastle striker Peter Beardsley as the successor of former manager Sam Allardyce. Beardsley, who was a youth coach under Allardyce, has this to say "I was absolutely delighted to be offered the job as manager of Newcastle United, the club is very close to my heart and I could not turn down such a magnificent offer."
Chairman, Chris Mort was a beaming figure as he watched over Beardsley while he signed his lucrative 2 year deal with the option of extending the deal. He didn't say alot but his opening line "we have our man!" showed how much this deal means to the Geordie supporters.

That was what awaited me as I entered my new office at 7.00am on 30th June. I had been in here plenty times before to give past managers analysis reports of the youth team but it felt different walking into this plush office knowing I worked in here now not in that little pokey cupboard conversion down the corridor. One upside of managing this team is that I know what to expect from the players, which youngsters will make it and which ones won't and I know where the team needs to be improved. So i set to work looking at the squad files that the coaches had compiled for me to help me settle into my role. Obviously, the coaches think that Owen is our key player and without any signings at the moment I had to agree. Another thing that i agreed with the coaches is the weakness and thin-ness of the defence. One Left Back, One reliable Right Back, One promising Centre Back and Two Experienced Centre Backs isn't that promising for a team who's supporters want big things. The midfield is short of any creative flair in the centre and it lacks a threatening Left Winger. The strikeforce consists of 3 top division strikers and ONE promising youngster but again if we want to challenge for silverware we will need to bring in some more options. I turned to the samsung lcd TV that was suspended on the wall and flicked to Sky Sports News...

David Jones:... Now according to the Daily Mail, Andrei Arshavin has been placed on Zenit St. Petersberg's transfer list. The Russian playmaker is said to be valued at £8 million. This will surely alert the attention of Europes top clubs to bid for the Maestro as the asking price could be seen as a steal. Ed Chamberlin: Yes very interesting... Now according to The Sun, Real Madrid's left back Marcelo has attracted interest from both AC and Inter Milan aswell as Newcastle scout Dennis Wise who will most surely be urging new boss Peter Beardsley to table a 5.5 million pound bid, which will have to be accepted as the Brazilian left back has a Minimum Fee clause in his contract, which is, of course, £5.5 million David Jones: According to The Chronicle Beardsley is set to place a 7.5 million pound bid for Attacking midfielder Daniel Carvalho from CSKA Moscow. Carvalho, who has expressed his intention to stay at the Moscow based club, may be tempted by the dazzling lifestyle of the Premiership... ****
I switched the TV off it was ludicrous to suggest that I was bidding for players when I had only just started work an hour ago. I turned to the computer and double clicked my email icon, up it popped. I had two unread emails, one from the Chairman... I had 44 million to spend on transfers to help build towards European football and 1.1 million to spend on wages. The other email was from Mike Ashley welcoming me to the club... nice gesture... or it would have been if I hadn't been at the club several more years than him. I got bored quickly so I decided to draw up a list of what kind of players we needed and who we could look at. This lasted a good 2 hours picking out the positions then naming candidates with their club telephone numbers. Finally finished I looked at the list then picked up the phone and dialled the first number...
