Managing in Oz Lee had always wanted to be back in football after his playing career had been ended. It had happened a few years back. He had been playing in what was then Division One, now the Championship. He was a goalkeeper for West Brom. A cross came flying into the box, and he jumped up to catch it. It was an easy catch. Then, a opposing striker slide-tackled. Lee still had one foot on the ground, which was caught by the striker. Lee's ankle was broken, and Lee fell to the ground. But, he had also been thrown up into the air by the tackle. He landed so awkardly that he broke his back, a leg and was out cold. When he had recovered, he had completed a UEFA Pro course, but no clubs were intrested in his services. So instead, he had become a sports columnist for The Sun. One night, he returned to his home in London. He checked his emails. One was from his former agent and good friend, Oliver Harris. It read: 'Lee, there is a club that wants you to be their manager. I'm not sure which one it is yet, but I've forwaded your phone number to their chairman.' Then, the phone rang. He picked it up. Someone with an Australian accent was calling. 'Hello' said Lee. 'Hello, can I speak to Mr Hodges?' 'Speaking' 'Hi, Lee! I'm Andrew Kemeny, chairman of Sydney FC. I would be delighted if you could come to Australia and have a look around the club and the city. Hopefully, we could even sign a deal' 'I'll have to check with my other half first' 'OK. I'll call you again tomorrow' 'OK. See you' 'Seeya' Lee was stunned. He didn't know what to make of it. |
