I stopped writing and looked over to the tycoon who was smiling and standing casually at the podium. “While it is true that I have made my money in Racing, Football for me, like many other people in this world, is an undeniable love” The man laughed and the press buzzed again. From the right a female voice shouted over the others, “Fans of FC United became disillusioned at the sale of Manchester United to American investors, don’t you think that heavy investment from another large group will again cause the fans to depart?” Again Richards answered with a cheeky grin, “As much as I’d like to say I’m buying a club for myself, I’d only be kidding myself.” He cleared his throat and continued, “Me and my Colleagues invested in FC United solely for the purpose that we believe that this club could achieve huge things in the future. This club was founded by the people for the people… and we are going to keep it that way” This was met with a light ripple of applause from the crowd gathered which David Richards took as a sign that he wasn’t the man the crowd was here to meet. “It’s now time to introduce you to the man who will be achieving these huge things” He looked in my direction and I patted the shoulder of my colleague to my right, who stood up and approached the podium. I hadn’t worked with him long, but there was no doubting everything that was said about him… he truly was terrifying. He towered over me yet never looked down at me, I’m sure he would be wearing an XXXL shirt and if I asked, I bet he’d tell me. The Big Friendly Giant.. ah yes, it was going to be interesting working with this living legend, for me to hone my managerial talents under one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time… Peter Schmeichel. The Press who were buzzing before positively went mental when the Great Dane took to the podium, Cameras flashing, microphones being pressed nearer and nearer to the legend. The questions were what you’d expect, probing about his first managerial position in charge of the “Red Rebels”. What Peter thought of being chosen to take the club forward, the usual. Peter took it all in his stride, and didn’t look out of place at all. Perhaps it was all his time spent in tense situations like Champions league finals, but whatever it was, the Great Dane showed no sign of nervousness. I returned to my hotel room, not far from Gigg Lane, FC United’s temporary home ground, nothing flash, but it was enough. BBC Sport had a special on FC United, about the tear away from the Glazer consortium and the rapid rise through the English leagues to it’s current position in the Blue square North. It had brief segments of the media conference, mostly the interview with Peter and David Richards, disappointingly, half of me was cropped out of the picture… shame really. | CTID | | | 01-06-08, 04:43 PM | #2 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Sunshine Coast, Australia Posts: 47 Thanks: 9 Thanked 2 Times in 2 Posts Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | Live: We received confirmation early this morning that minnows FC United have been bought out by multi-millionaire racing tycoon David Richard's, Chairman of companies such as Prodrive and Aston Martin. It has been suggested that Richards (55) has had his eye on the purchase of a club recently and had decided on FC United over a year ago. Richard's wasted no time upon becoming chairman of starting the wheels in motion of turning the team known as "The Red Rebels" into a potent footballing power. FC United have seen a rapid rise through the english leagues after their conception in 2005 after disillusioned fans abandoned Manchester United after the sale of their club to the American Glazer consortium. Richard's today during the press conference assured fans that he will not be distancing himself from them and will be accepting all input into the club. (Schmeichel arriving at Gigg lane this morning) Richards has already struck accord with the Football Club of United Manchester fans with the successful signing of Peter Schmeichel, a Manchester United legend as manager. Schmeichel, 44, has never managed a club before but has already expressed his delight in recieving the role from the blue. "Well... What can i say" *laughs* "I received a phone call from Mr Richards only a few weeks ago asking if i was available to be a part of his new venture, there was no way i could refuse" Today's media conference also saw the release of the new FCUM Strips sponsored by Umbro; It was also divulged by Richards that his consortium have set about the construction of a brand new stadium for FC United to move into in the coming seasons as they expect the club to grow rapidly in reputation. Richards released early designs of "Prodrive Stadium" a state of the art 25550 all-seater stadium to be built in Tameside. We'll bring you more information on this fascinating devel..... I threw the remote on the bed, Still didn't mention me... This is beginning to become frustrating. I laughed in the dark and sipped on my Gin and Tonic... oh yes, this was going to be quite an interesting adventure. | CTID | | | 01-06-08, 07:14 PM | #3 (permalink) | | I'm The FMF Accountant - How Can I Help You? Thats about it! But due to the club having no good players other than Sam Ashton, Schmeichel is going to have to rebuild completley | CTID | | | 02-06-08, 09:26 AM | #5 (permalink) | | FMF's Toon Army Spiderman and member of the Writers Crew Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: wiltshire Posts: 2,392 Thanks: 304 Thanked 619 Times in 591 Posts Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | What a superb idea mate absoloutley fascinating.
