You'll be pleased to know however that Davids, being made out of solid wood, wont be troubled by his leg for too long. Not sure how this is going to progress, the Maduro v Banega fight occurred because in my game once I signed EB, Maduro got unhappy and wanted clarification of his role in the side I mulled over that, which gave me the idea for the scrap. Update coming soon, as Ajax play PSV in the Dutch Super Cup, my first proper game in charge! Our enquiry for Balazs Dzsudzsak had resulted in cash strapped Debrecen offering us the player's services for a paltry £225k, with an agreement of a 10% sell on fee. I snapped him up, and Frank de Boer headed over to Hungary to tie up the lose details. Davids' injury proved to be less serious than we thought, he had a triple fracture in the damaged bone, but the specialist assured me he would be in action again, probably before christmas. That was a relief. I rang him in the morning, his spirits seemed quite bright, and he wished us the best of luck for tommorow. My assistant manager, Hennie Spijkerman who had just returned from holiday that same day, went straight to the clinic to make sure Edgar was ok. At about 10am, I received a text from Gerrie Muhren, who was in Finland, checking on the availabilty of ex Villa player, Mika Aaritalo. While he was a guest at Turun, he picked up on another youngster there, a Goalkeeper named Lehtovaara. I texted him back, and asked him to get me some details, and a video of him playing if he could. Then I turned my attention to selecting the first 11 to face PSV. An hour later I was happy with my choice, and went home. And as you can imagine, I didnt sleep a wink. The build up to the game was awesome. We arrived at the venue, in this case our own Amsterdam ArenA, to a cacophony of sound and colour. We were ahead of PSV by twenty minutes, to allow for fans to sort themselves out. As the team coach pulled into the private underground carpark I could already hear the reverbarating sound of the stadium above. It was if the whole place had come alive. The dressing room talk went really well, all the lads were in great spirit, and well up for the game. I told them to relax, let their feet do the talking. I wanted them to move the ball around, and make PSV work for it. At that moment the Buzzer sounded. We were on stage. Myself and the opposition manager, Ronald Koeman followed the two teams out of the tunnel, with our bench staff and the subs. The roar was incredible, there were horns going off everywhere, and drums threatening to crush my hearing. Koeman didn't say a word to me at all on the way to the benches, and when we arrived at the dugouts I turned and offered my hand "Good luck" I wished him. Koeman looked at me for a second, glanced at my outstretched hand, and smiled at me, kind of like you would expect from a James Bond badguy. He turned away from me and headed for his seat on the bench, leaving me like a lemon with my hand out, infront of nearly 40,000 people, and the world media. Well, Setanta sports anyway. Mercifully, his assistant Jan Wouters came to my rescue, and shook my hand warmly, wishing me the very best of luck. Red as a beetroot with sunburn I went to the bench. My own Assistant manager, Hennie patted my shoulder and told me not to worry. I wasn't. Koeman was off the christmas card list now. The game itself started at a blistering pace. We knocked the ball about comfortably with Maduro in particular showing a lovely touch or two. Jaap Stam, in the captains armband looked assured, and marshalled his back line of Emmanuelson, Heitinga and Vermaelen well. 14 minutes in, we had our first real opportunity, From the "D", Huntelaar gathered a superb pass from Rommedahl, and smashed an effort off the base of the left hand upright, and out for a goal kick. On 32 minutes, my swedish winger, Kennedy Bakircioglu showed Kromkamp a clean set of heels, but his cross towards Luque was easily caught by Bas Roorda in the PSV goal. Then disaster struck on 38, in the form of the deadly Farfan. He managed to round Maduro on halfway, then a beautiful one-two with Koevermans left him only to outpace Stam, which he did with ease...My god that lad is fast. Less than a second later, he rounded Stekelenburg and fired into the empty net before Emmanuelson could slide in to block. We went in at the break down 1-0. The second half played out much better, with both teams probing each other's back line, looking for a sniff of an opportunity. On 67, Stekelenburg saved brilliantly from a deflected effort from Edison Mendez, and on the rebound, tipped over from Farfan at point blank. This seemed to galvanise the side, and dead on 79 minutes we got our equalizer, Jan Vertonghen slotting home superbly from 8 yards out following great work from Huntelaar and Mitea. However it went horribly wrong and 3 minutes before the 90 was up, we were left wondering what the hell had happened, as Koevermans headed home a pinpoint cross from Aissati. I had just lost my first game in charge, and to make it worse, Dr Blofeld himself Koeman just had to rub it in. "Don't you worry my son, you will be feeling like this a lot this season" as we shook hands. I made a mental note to run his fluffy white cat over. The important thing is the ending, not the begining. I tell you a secret... I can see the future...Koeman will end coaching in Valencia, and he will be fired after winning the Cup because of a nasty 5-1 defeat against Athletic Club. | | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to metro For This Useful Post: | | 23-04-08, 09:38 AM | #56 (permalink) | | Touted as a new David Ginola: Im an FMF'er, Not a movie star Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: wiltshire Posts: 1,657 Thanks: 226 Thanked 369 Times in 347 Posts | Hot Prospects We didnt have another match until the 15th of August, and that was our Champions League qualifier against Spartak Moscow. This at least gave me time to prepare the squad a bit better, considering our last match had been a disaster. The board had been suprisingly good about the defeat, Keizer informing me they felt it had been one hell of a baptism of fire. The team itself were quite down about it, we had dominated the game and just not capitalised enough. On the training pitch for three sessions solid we worked on fitness and moving the ball around, and in particular finishing off team moves in front of goal. Gerrie Muhren returned from Turun with two new signings, totalling just over £175k. He had managed to sign Aaritalo without any fuss, and revealed to me he felt the youngster would benefit more in the first team, he was good enough already. Jukka Lehtovaara had also made the move, and would play a stint in the under 19's until next season, where we would probably find him a club to gain some valuable first team experience at the start of the next one. He also had someone however, he wanted me to meet. I made my way down to the training pitch, where the youth team coach Ad Koster had twenty or so youngsters doing aerobic training. Muhren was stood at the side of the pitch, tucking into the bucket of oranges on a small table, and as I joined him, he chucked me one. "Morning Gerrie" I said as I stood next to him "How are you?" "Good thanks" he replied "I'm sorry to drag you out here, but I feel you need to see this young man" he pointed to a wiry youth at the back, blonde hair, just under 6ft. "Believe it or not I spotted him kicking a football around in the carpark at Veritas, he was waiting for a friend to finish training." "So what's so special about him?" I asked, I was struggling with my orange, it seemed to be made of kevlar. "Well at the moment he's on the books at JIPPO, but at the moment they seem to be offloading players left right and centre. I had a chat with him and it appears the trials for their teams are closed, and he hasn't even been seen yet." "Oh" I replied not sure why Muhren was so keen "So was he any good in the carpark?" Muhren looked at me "Every now and then you see something in one of these youngsters, you just get a feeling. I think it was the way he was controlling the ball...It was just effortless, kind of like the way you see Cesc or Ronaldo do it" "Ok matey" I turned to him, "lets see what he can do. "Adie!" I shouted to the youth team manager "Get a game going mate!" He waved back and 5 minutes later they got a 10-a-side going. In all fairness it didn't start too well for the new kid. His passing seemed wayward, and although his touch was superb as Muhren had said, it seemed he was aloof to the way the other kids were playing. After another pass failed to make its target and went out for a throw-in, Gerrie groaned. He was knocked over on several occasions, the players on his team were getting angry with him and his passing, and finally I could tell my scout was getting embarrassed. After ten more minutes of him playing he'd had enough. "I'm sorry Steve" he said "It was a mistake, he can't play. The guy's just are way above him, I'll ring his dad and tell him to pick him up at the airport" It wasn't til the kid hit another through ball that again failed to impress his striker, that it hit me as to what the problem was. "Wait Gerrie" I said "I have a theory, just hold on, get him off the pitch and take him to where the reserves are playing over there" I pointed to pitch two, where the reserves were playing a hectic 7-a-side. Gerrie looked at me like I was mad, but did as I asked. I had a quick word with the 2nd team coach, David Endt, who agreed and pulled Muhrat Yildirim off for a rest. We sent the new kid on, and he immediately slotted in behind Bogdan Stancu. The game restarted. It was an immediate impact. Our newboy picked up the ball on half-way, and tried a threaded ball in between Greg van der Weil and Jeffrey Sarpong. Stancu was onto it like a flash and smashed the ball into the net past a hapless Verhoeff. He immediately ran to the new kid and hi-fived him. "Thank god for that" David Endt turned to me, "Thats his first goal today, I was wondering if he was ever gonna score" I looked at Muhren, who had the beginnings of a smile on his face. "I think his problem wasn't he couldn't handle the under 19's" I said to Gerrie, "He was just too damn good for them." Again we turned our attention to the match. It became evident the new kid was starting to run the game, his passing was incredibly good, unlocking chances for Leonardo to net, and Stancu to score his second. Then in the dying seconds of the game he produced a moment of sheer magic, spinning off Marin Sterk, to play a one-two with Stancu, except he didn't collect the return pass, he just stepped over the ball, leaving Leonardo to run free and score his second. The outstanding piece of skill had us all clapping on the touchline, it was brilliant. "Call him over, I want a word" I said to Muhren. A minute later, he was with us. "Whats your name, son?" I asked the lad "Lauri Dalla Valle, sir" the kid replied. I smiled at him "We don't do sir round here sunshine, just boss or gaffer will do. Are you free to play in a reserve match on trial for us tommorow?" His eyes lit up and he nodded. "Good" I said "Muhren here will make the neccessary arrangements for you and your dad to stay for a few days, I look forward to seing how you get on" I nodded at Muhren, who was grinning from ear to ear, and walked back to my office mulling over what had unfolded. As good as Cesc? More creative than Ronaldo? I guess time would tell. But for now I was glad Muhren spotted him before anyone else did. | Signature-Care of Ru Top FMF GFX Artist Current game Spain/Birmingham 08-09 | | | 23-04-08, 10:08 AM | #57 (permalink) | | Co-founder of the cult Ruism Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Dundalk, Ireland Posts: 2,354 Thanks: 194 Thanked 309 Times in 249 Posts | gonna be a great signing for you mate, excellent work so far harty, im really enjoying this story :) kutgw | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to John10 For This Useful Post: | | 23-04-08, 01:17 PM | #58 (permalink) | | What Spanish does with a football, I can do with an orange.
