I made sure that I was at least two hours earlier than everyone else in the training ground before we were picked up by the team coach. I sat down at my computer and sent an email to a certain club regarding a striker. Finally the players and staff started arriving too. I greeted everyone of them, not really to be nice, just to rub it in that I got here before everyone else. Especially after yesterday. Eventually after everyone arrived, the coach did and everyone climbed aboard. The lads were in really high spirits during the journey to Balleybofey but those spirits were soon dampened when a shower of rain greeted us to Finn Park. As I stepped off of the coach, my foot disappeared in a puddle. I swore under my breath. "Watch out coming off the coach lads, there's a bloody deep puddle there." I warned. "The last thing we need is you lot getting pneumonia." The lads went straight to the changing room whilst Trevor and myself headed towards the pitch. As we walked out of the tunnel, we were not impressed. The pitch was appalling. It looked like a rugby match had been played here the night before. The weather didn't help much neither. I turned to Trevor. "We can't expect the team to play on this. It's awful. The lads are liable to get shin splints or something." Trevor shook his head. "Unless the referee says so, we have to play." I mumbled a slight agreement and trudged back to the changing room, with my left foot still squelching. The lads were already dressed and ready for action. I walked round the room, seeing some of the players giggling at my wet shoe. "Listen lads. The pitch is appalling and it doesn't look as if the ref is gonna cancel the match. So just go out there and take it easy. The result really doesn't matter. Just be careful." The team nodded in agreement and left the changing room. Finn Harps 2 - St. Patrick's Athletic 3. Breen (31), Oakley (90) - Keane (3), Fitzpatrick (68, 70) Again the team played well. They took it easy and still managed pull a result out of the bag. I was particularly impressed by Glen Fitzpatrick. He came on the field on the hour mark and worked his socks off, which I wasn't too impressed with, especially when I warned the team about the state of the pitch. But the lad showed great control to score two goals in the first 10 minutes he was on the field. He even won man of the match for being on for only half hour. After the match the lads looked tired. They must've felt they'd run a cross country race. * * * When I arrived home, John was asleep on the couch with an empty bottle of beer in his hand. I couldn't be bothered to wake him. I just walked through to the bedroom and collapsed on the bed... | | | | 18-04-08, 11:29 AM | #46 (permalink) | | FMF DB Update Scout & FMF Police Chief Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Knaresborough Posts: 2,728 Thanks: 712 Thanked 234 Times in 193 Posts | Great result there and this just gets better and better! I'd been giving the day off by Mr. O'Callaghan to search for a house. Emma had flown over for the day as well, leaving Ozzy at her parent's house. We ended up settling for a lovely little house on St. Michael's Estate, just round the corner from Richmond Park. After looking the whole day, it was about 6pm before we finally settled on the house so we went out for a bite to eat. We discussed how and when are we going to move all our stuff from England. "Don't bother." I said. "Just pack your clothes and come over here. I'll get Dad to sort everything else out." "Are you coming home to pack your stuff or am I going to have to do it for you?" I wasn't quite sure if she was joking or not. "I would like to babes, I really would. But, I've got a new signing coming in tomorrow. He's flying in from Spain. I've had Cyril Walsh over there all week trying to agree terms with him." "Fine," she said, continuing to eat, "I'll pack everything myself." We continued to eat in silence. I drove her back to the airport and tried to make idle chat but Emma wasn't having any of it. Finally, just before she boarded, I broke down that stubborn woman with the words that all woman love to hear. She kissed me and said it back. As I left the terminal, I laughed out loud and said to myself, "I've still got it." When I arrived home, John was tidying up his dinner things. Smelt like Spaghetti Bolognese. "Hey Johnno. Good news." I said, walking into the kitchen. "Emma and I found a place in Dublin, so you don't have to put up with me anymore." John didn't seem to happy about that. In fact he looked like he was gonna cry. "You okay mate?" I asked with earnest. "I don't want you to leave Ru." John said, still looking down into the sink. "This past fortnight has been wonderful. I think I'm falling in love with you." That threw me back. But the irratic laughing made me realise that John was merely messing around. "Hahaha! The look on your face." He said, still laughing. "As if I'd be into you mate. It's great news that you're leaving. I get my place back to myself." "Ha, you're funny." I said. "Talk about putting me in an awkward position. Fool." John laughed a bit more and walked over to the fridge, where he pulled out two bottles of beer. "Come on mate let's celebrate." "Sorry mate," I said, shaking my head, "I've gotta go to the ground tomorrow. I've got a new signing coming in." "Okay mate." As John walked past he winked, went into a histerical laugh and sat down in front of the TV. "You're an idiot." I shouted as I went through to bed. As I got changed for bed, John came bursting into the room. "Look, I know you're pratting about, but this is taking it too far mate." I looked at his face. This wasn't no joke. He was deadly serious. He had the phone in his hand. Without saying a word, he passed it to me and walked out of the room. "Hello?" I asked. "Stephen, it's Lesley." Emma's mother was on the phone. "Hey, what's up." "It's Emma. There was a plane accident..." She paused, I could hear her sobbing. "...she's injured. She's in a coma." | | | | 21-04-08, 12:02 PM | #51 (permalink) | | FMF DB Update Scout & FMF Police Chief Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Knaresborough Posts: 2,728 Thanks: 712 Thanked 234 Times in 193 Posts | Noooo, poor Emma! I've just been busy making kits and sigs for the last couple of days to update the story but tomorrow I'm gonna do it. I'm still doing it, don't you worry. | | | | 25-04-08, 12:20 PM | #58 (permalink) | | Touted as the next Ali Dia Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Norwich (Born and bred in Liverpool though) Posts: 1,834 Thanks: 523 Thanked 379 Times in 357 Posts | My alarm went off at 7am but I didn't actually get up for an hour. I just laid in bed staring at the ceiling. I wasn't sure if last night was a dream or not. Either way I had to reveal my latest signing to the press, so I got up and got dressed. It didn't seem like I was doing it at all. Sort of floating through the motions. I decided to call Emma, just to make sure that last night was merely a dream. The phone continued to ring and ring until... "Hello?" My heart jumped when I heard Emma's voice on the other end. Then the rest kicked in. "Haha! Fooled ya! I'm not actually available to come to the phone at this moment so please leave a message. Thanks." It was her stupid answering machine message. She must've changed it whilst I have been away. I finally arrived at the ground at around 11. Trevor immediately realised that something was wrong. "You okay boss?" I just walked past and shook my head. The rest of the day just floated by. I met Alex Fernandez, my new signing on a freebie from Coslada. Introduced him to a few of the press members that had gathered. I then introduced him to the team. They seemed to take to him pretty well, despite the language barrier. As the lads trained, I told Trevor what happened last night. "Jesus, is she okay?" He asked. "I don't know. I've not yet been to see her." I replied. "If I go see her then it'll make it real. At the moment, I kinda just feel as if I watching everything from above." "You need to go see her, boss." "I know. I know. I'm gonna go see Mr. O'Callaghan and explain." "Good, I'll take control of the friendly against Dundalk coming up." "Cheers Trevor." I decided that I'd stay and supervise training and then go see Mr. O'Callaghan. Mr. O'Callaghan was very very supportive and told me to take a week off and see Emma. I, inturn, promised to be back for the All Ireland Cup group game against Drogheda. I immediately went home and packed and caught the first flight to England I could. I finally arrived at home late into the night. I looked at pictures of Emma and myself. I started to well up. "Why are you crying?" I turned round to see my dad sitting at the kitchen table. "She's not gone. She's only in hospital." He got up and walked towards me and gave me a pat on the back. "Come on, I'll drive you to the hospital." We arrived at the hospital about half hour later. I didn't really want to go in but Dad forced me to. Unfortunately we wasn't allowed to see her because visiting hours had passed about an hour ago. So we sat in reception. "I'm gonna quit my job." I finally said to Dad after about forty-five minutes of silence. "Why?" Dad asked in astonishment. "I need to be here with Emma, not in Ireland." "Emma wouldn't want you to quit." "Don't give me that crap Dad. Why is it whenever something bad happens and you make a decision, it's always so and so wouldn't want you to do that." By this point I'd raised my voice and a few of the nightshift workers were looking at us. "I need to be here with Emma." "With all due respect son, you're an idiot." "I beg your pardon?" "You've got a good job and an excellent chance of making it big in the world of football management and you're willing to throw it away because your wife's in hospital. I know it sounds harsh but you just being here all day, every day won't make a blind bit of difference. You are not a doctor for Christ's sake." Dad didn't blink whilst he was saying all this. "Look, we'll go into that room tomorrow and see Emma and then you need to make a decision." I nodded and we sat in silence again for the rest of the night... | | | | 25-04-08, 02:00 PM | #59 (permalink) | | Touted as a new David Ginola: Im an FMF'er, Not a movie star Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: wiltshire Posts: 1,699 Thanks: 227 Thanked 379 Times in 357 Posts | ................................ he's got a point! glad we got a new update, terrific stuff mate, its unravelling like FM-Enders!
