Welcome To Inside Sport. I'm Gabby Logan, and today, we will be interviewing Karl Schneider, who is the manager of Darlington. Many of you will remember Karl Schneider from his success at Bayern Munich, International Career with Germany, and most recently, his career as a manager. He made over 800 appearance with Munich and he holds the record of the most goal scored for Germany And Bayern Munich - and still does. Gabby: Welcome To Inside Sport Karl, take a seat. Karl: Thanks very much Gabby! Gabby: So Tell us Karl, about how you started off your football career. Karl: Sure Gabby. I started my career at HSV at the age of 16, as a striker. We were the best Under 18 team in Germany at that time, with Genzo Wakabayashi in goal and Hamann Carlos in midfield in our team. Our partnership was unbeatable. It all changed after the Under 16 World Championships. During that World Championship, Germany were tipped to win it. We made it to the final with ease. We faced Japan in the finals, where we under estimated them. We lost 3-2. They had a strong midfielder, Oozara Tsubasa. Of course, they had Genzo, who was my strongest opponent in the German League. Gabby: You moved to Bayern Munich didn't you? Karl: Yep. Genzo and Hamann became my enemy. However, it was the best time of my career. We were League Champions for 15 years and we won many more trophies during my time there. We always played European football, where I met some of the most talented players. Tsubasa, Rivaul, Santana, Pierre, Hernandez, Juan Diaz...those were great times. Unfortunately, during a match againest Werder Bremen, someone tackled me badly and I recieved a horrible leg injury. It was just before the World Cup. Gabby: That was when you were forced to retire? Karl: Yes. I retired at the age of 32 in 2006. It was disappointing. What I regret the most is never winning the World Cup. Ottmar Hitzfeld persuaded me to continue in football as a manager. I took his advice. I took a year off to study for a manager license. After I passed the test, I announced that I was ready to come back to football, as a manager. Many big teams were after me. However, I wasnt interested. I wanted a challenge. Darlington caught my eye. I never had much contact with English football and I was interested. I called the chairman and I asked for the job. I told him I dont mind how much i get paid. That was when I got my first job.... Gabby: I think we should take a short break now. Next, Karl will tell us how he successfully got Darlington promoted, and about the FA Cup Surprise. Keep on going this, but tell more about the players like the beginning. That is better to read then only screen shots. But it's great, but it can better. Good luck. | Signature made by: Justin (me) | | | 03-04-08, 01:00 PM | #14 (permalink) | | Scout For FMF's DB Update Join Date: May 2007 Location: Scotland Not Britain Posts: 558 Thanks: 29 Thanked 112 Times in 102 Posts | looking good mate some good signings kutgw | | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
