Thiago Alcantara who was under and un-protected contract at Barcelona. Youngsters Thiago and Acapandie Join City! Joe Friar made his first signings as City manager by bringing in 16 year old Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona and Vincent Acapandie from AJ Auxerre. Thiago was under an un-protected contract at Barcelona so the promising youngster comes in on a free while Acapandie was also free, £325k compensation was payed to Auxerre for taking the player. Joe Friar has said he's very excited about seeing both youngsters in action for the 1st team shortly but for the moment they will play their football in the reserve team. There are many rumours circulating that City have offered for Michael Owen but in a dramatic turn of events it turns out his strike partner Obafemi Martins could be on his way to City. Keegan revealed he had accepted an initial £4.3 million bid from City which will eventually rise to £12.75 million through monthly installments. With such a complex deal agreed, it looks positive that the deal could go through. The latest rumour is suggesting Spurs winger Aaron Lennon could be on his way to City for no less than £15 million. Martins completes City move Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins has joined Manchester City from Newcastle for an initial £4.3 million. What may seem like a small fee will rise to £12.75 million within 24 months. The 22 year old striker joins Joe Friar's revolution at Man City and will hope to help them in their European ambitions. Joining from Newcastle, who will almost certainly use the money to replace him, he said how happy he was to join a club with an ambition that matches his. " I am delighted today that i have finally completed my move to Man City" said the Nigeria marksman at the recent press conference." My ambition is to play at the highest level and Manchester City are a club with an ambition to be there. I will try my best this season in taking this club where it deserves to be." | Credit to Apthered for the awesome sig. | | | 16-02-08, 10:02 PM | #9 (permalink) | | vBookie Team, Member of the Ozza Family Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Cheshire Posts: 2,285 Thanks: 540 Thanked 341 Times in 278 Posts | Great GFX mate ;) Great signing too! | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to WozzaWolves For This Useful Post: | | 16-02-08, 10:03 PM | #10 (permalink) | | FMF Donator Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: Liverpool Posts: 71 Thanks: 11 Thanked 10 Times in 10 Posts | Nice pic, superb signing Joe. Uraguay international Sebastian Viera joined City today for £8 million from Villarreal. The 24 year old has earned 11 caps in a Uraguay shirt in a career that has seen him made 111 appearances for the 2 clubs he has played for. He has become Joe Friar's 5th signing of the window and dispite carrying a sprained wrist, he looks set to fit straight into the City starting line-up on the opening day of the season against Fulham. Viera will wear shirt number 48 at City this season and his arrival could spark the sale of one of City's current keepers. | Credit to Apthered for the awesome sig. | | | 17-02-08, 03:32 PM | #13 (permalink) | | FMF's Comeback King Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Knaresborough Posts: 2,912 Thanks: 776 Thanked 270 Times in 215 Posts | Some great signings, and a great start! Two more signings were confirmed after the last 2 updates. Claudio Pizarro arrived on a 5 month loan from Chelsea while Ukraine international Andriy Nesmachnyi put pen to paper to confirm a £7 million deal from Dinamo Kiev. August also saw Liberian striker Alex Temwah Nimely emerge from the Under 18 side to make his debut for the 1st team in the Carling Cup 2nd round against Tranmere. The months results went like this: 11th Aug - PRM Fulham (H) Result: W 1-0 Goals: Elano (19) Man of the match: Elano 11 14th Aug - PRM Derby (H) Result: W 2-0 Goals: Bojinov (44), Elano (74) Man of the match: Bojinov 29 18th Aug - PRM Aston Villa (A) Result: L 3-2 Goals: Elano (20,51) Man of the match: Fernandes 28 25th Aug - PRM Reading (A) Result W 3-1 Goals: Ireland (79), Elano (86), Martins (90) Man of the match: Ireland 7 29th Aug - CCR2 Tranmere (A) Result W 1-0 Goals: Benjani (87) Man of the match: Thiago 39 Other info: Face Burnley in the 3rd Round. Manager's comments: A great month for everyone at the club. Some great results and we were unlucky to loose to a Villa side that just wouldn't give up. A late goal is always hard to take but we got on with things and focused on the next game. It was good to progress to the next round of the cup. The cup is one of our main aims this season. Doing well in that will propell us towards a European place. We face a tough test against Burnley and they will come to Eastlands thinking the pressure is all on us and they can pull of an upset. New signing Obafemi Martins got closer and closer to full fitness every day and Aaron Lennon is now playing reserve team football to re-gain match fitness. In a month that we thought would be tough turned out to be pretty simple as we kept our position in the top 6, chasing that European spot. This months games: 2nd Sept - Everton (A) Result: W 3-1 Goals: Martins (17,81) Ireland (37) Man of the match: Martins 15th Sept - Spurs (H) Result: W 3-0 Goals: Fernandes (27) Elano (pen 52, 63) Man of the match: Fernandes 23rd Sept - Bolton (A) Result: D 1-1 Goals: Martins (79) Man of the match: Johnson 26th Sept - CCR3 Burnley (H) Result: W 2-0 (After extra time) Goals: Tarweh Nimely (102), Martins (117) Man of the match: Hamann 29th Sept - PRM Newcastle (H) Result L 0-1 Goals: --- Man of the match: Hart Manager's comments: September was certainly a good month for us. Alex Tarweh Nimely who we have talked about alot scored his 1st senior goal for us. It was a great moment for him and he is expected to be on the bench for our next game. I will be choosing my No.1 keeper over the next couple of months and we have decided to give Joe Hart another chance in goal and Isaksson will also get a chance when he returns from injury before i choose my 1st choice keeper. Everyone expects me to pick Sebastian Viera to be my No.1 because we signed him for £8 million but it does not work like that. Joe and Andreas are both worth a place in the 1st team even if they don't cost 8 million. They will both get a chance in the coming games... October 2007 Review October came and the season was moving along fast with the table shaping up well now. With decisions to make such as who to pick as our number 1 goalkeeper, we finally came to the decision that Sebastian Viera would take the reigns in goal and that rotation between 3 goalkeepers would be a bad idea. Consistency is a big part of success and this could prove essential over the next few months. *NEWS* - Sebastian Viera named as "official" number one goalkeeper. - Andreas Isaksson has picked up yet another injury and is out for 3-4 weeks. - Aaron Lennon has returned to full fitness and has started his 1st game for the club this month. - City have progressed to the 5th round of the Carling Cup and await news on who they will face next. - Rumours have already began, speculating City's January transfers. The latest rumours to come out are that Emile Mpenza, Michael Ball and Andreas Isaksson will all leave the club to make way for Joe Mattock and Jimmy Briand. This month's games: 6th Oct PRM - Portsmouth (A) Result: D 1-1 Goals: Bojinov (29) Motm: Bojinov 21st Oct PRM - Sunderland (H) Result: D 1-1 Goals: Johnson (74) Motm: Johnson 28th Oct PRM - West Ham (A) Result L 0-1 Goals: --- Motm- Lennon 31st Oct CCR4 - Tottenham (H) Result: W 1-0 Goals: Richards (11) Motm: Richards Manager's comments: We managed to turn October into a terrible month to a decent one in one game! We're hoping the win in the Cup will be a big boost to our confidence and to beat a team like Spurs for the second time this season is brilliant. We haven't won in the league in a while and we are falling away from the top 4 now. We play Birmingham next before the "big four" all in a row! November will be tough but if we can come away from any of the next five games with 3 points i will be delighted!
