Default November Update

The Manchester derby is the name given to football matches between Manchester City and Manchester United. As with any major football rivalry, gloating and banter between the two sets of fans is commonplace. United fans point out that City have gone awhile without winning a major trophy, whereas City fans claim United do not actually come from Manchester. United's Old Trafford ground lies just outside the city boundaries in Trafford Borough.
Fireworks expected... its the Manchester Derby!

November 2007 Review

So as we looked at the fixture list for November one game stood out as it does every season. The 24th of November 2007, Manchester City V Manchester United. Blue versus Red, Friar versus Ferguson, Haaland versus Keane, McManaman versus Neville and Manchester versus Salford. In Manchester you're either City or United. A City divided by passion and expectations! City go in as the under-dogs every year but sometimes come out with a victory. Would the 1st Manchester Derby ,out of a definite three this season, be the best? Could it live up to previous encounters. Full match report below.

*NEWS*
- City have been drawn with rivals Manchester United in the quarter final of the Carling Cup. The two clubs will meet just 10 days after facing each other in the league.
- Andreas Isaksson as picked up his fourth injury of the season and will be out for another month.
- Sebastian Viera is also out injured meaning Joe Hart and Kasper Schmiechel will ocupy the No.1 jersey and the position on the bench.

This month's games:

3rd Nov PRM - Birmingham (H)
Result: W 3-1
Goals: Elano (24,87) Martins (36)
Man of the match: Elano

10th Nov PRM - Chelsea (A)
Result W 2-1
Goals: Martins (52) Richards (89)
Man of the match: Viera

24th Nov PRM - Manchester United (H)
Result: W 2-1
Goals: Martins (58,90+3)
Man of the match: Martins
*Report*: A sensational Manchester derby was played in full spirit at the City of Manchester Stadium with tackles flying in from the 1st few minutes. Andriy Nesmachnyi picked up his 5th booking of the season for a slide tackle on Ronaldo. In the 6th minute Utd broke City's defence and Paul Scholes slid the ball home from Rooney's pass. As the game progressed City created more and more chances and before half time were unlucky not to go in level with a great bit of play from Aaron Lennon and Elano. City came out rallied for the 2nd half and an inspired substitution by manager Friar to replace Petrov for Ireland proved a great sub. Finally in the 58th minute, United's defence cracked. Hamann found Martins with a great ball and the Nigeria international took it past Van Der Sar and slotted it home. Soon after City thought they're hard work would have been rewarded further when Wes Brown was heading for a second yellow card, only to escape with a warning. With 1 minute of the whole game to go City won a corner. Ireland took and the ball was soon cleared back to the Irishman who swung a great cross into the near post. To the delight of 48,000 people it was met by the head of Obafemi Martins who directed it into the top corner of the net. 2-1!!! The final whistle went soon after and City earnt a well deserved win!

Manager's comments: A fantastic month for us with two great wins where we were expected to loose. They were both tough games but we have come through them and proved we are no push-overs. We will continue our bid to climb up the table and these 3 results are a great start for our re-newed bid for Europe after a sticky patch in October.

Loosing team face a forfeit!

December 2007 Review

December turned out to be a very interesting month for City with 2 wins at the start of the month, made up for by wins in the next 5 games. Another Manchester Derby went by in the cup but this time Manchester United came out on top in a game that was much closer than what the scoreline suggested. As you can see from the pictures City have been training hard over the last month ready for the 2nd half of the season! This month's games:

1st Dec - PRM Liverpool (A)
Result: L 2-3
Goals: Martins (38,90)
Man of the match: Martins

4th Dec - CCR5 Man Utd (A)
Result: L 0-4
Goals: ---
Man of the match: Johnson

8th Dec - PRM Arsenal (H)
Result: W 2-0
Goals: Bojinov (2,45)
Man of the match: Bojinov

15th Dec - PRM Blackburn (A)
Result: W 5-2
Goals: Dunne (5,32,35) Bojinov (30,45)
Man of the match: Dunne

22nd Dec - Wigan (A)
Result: D 1-1
Goals: Richards (21)
Man of the match: Elano

26th Dec - Middlesbrough (H)
Result: W 4-1
Goals: Martins (28) Elano (35) Fernandes (43) Dunne (59)
Man of the match: Fernandes

29th Dec - Derby (A)
Result: W 2-1
Goals: Elano (35,73)
Man of the match: Elano

Manager's comments: We did well in turning December back into a good month for the club. I'm very happy with the whole team going into the 2nd half of the season and everyone has worked very hard so far. Richard Dunne has impressed me this month as he took the blame for a big part of the 4-0 defeat to Man Utd. Since then he has lead the club to 4 wins and 2 draws in the next 6 games and scored 4 goals. For a centre back that is phenomenal and we hope to keep him as captain for years to come. After playing all the top 4 in a row we know now that we don't half to play them for a while so we can knuckle down and keep up the chase for Europe! Keep up the fantastic support :)

Default January 2008 Review

In form players Maxim Choupo Moting and Juan Roman Riquelme sign for City!

Fabio Aurelio joins City from Liverpool for £3.2 million while Nicolas Mazzola joins for 20k.

19 year old Brazilian Kerlon signs from Cruziero for £6.25 million while City's only deadline deal was a £1.7 million deal for Tomasz Kuszczack from rival's Manchester United.

January 2008 Review

January was a very busy month at City as it was at every club in the Premiership. Lots of transfer deals were done in January with the squad ending up looking perfect for the last 5 months of the season. Many pundits reported that manager Joe Friar was unlucky not to win Manager of the Month for January after City went through all their games unbeaten. 3 of the new signings made their debuts in January including 4 goals in 5 games from Maxim Choupo Moting, in the abscence of Obafemi Martins.

*NEWS*

- Recent signing Nicolas Mazzola has begun a loan period at feeder club Oldham until the end of the season.
- Obafemi Martins has left for the African Cup of Nations and scored in Nigeria's 1st two games of the competition.
- Maxim Choupo-Moting recieve praise from German legend Jurgen Klinsman after some blistering form for City in his 1st 5 games for the club.

This month's games:

1st Jan - PRM Aston Villa (H)
Result: W 2-1
Goals: Martins (10) Knight og. (30)
Man of the match: Johnson

6th Jan - FAC3 Huddersfield (A)
Result: W 2-0
Goals: Choupo-Moting (64) Jihai (68)
Man of the match: Choupo-Moting

12th Jan - PRM Fulham (A)
Result: D 1-1
Goals: Choupo-Moting (69)
Man of the match: Viera

19th Jan - PRM Reading (H)
Result: W 3-1
Goals: Choupo-Moting (1) Fernandes (35) Petrov (69)
Man of the match: Petrov

26th Jan - FAC4 - Q.P.R (A)
Result: D 1-1
Goals: Benjani (4)
Man of the match: Riquelme

29th Jan - PRM Everton (H)
Result: W 3-1
Goals: Choupo-Moting (15) Johnson (36) Bojinov (90)
Man of the match: Johnson

Manager's Comments: We've done very well this month without loosing. Our FA Cup run is still alive but we still have to play a replay against a tough Q.P.R side. All the new signings look promising and everyone is really happy with who we've signed this month. We're hoping that if we win the replay then we can go very far in the Cup and possibly win our first trophy in 6 years. The board are fully behind us and support everything we have done in the transfer window. I'm hoping all the fans will love all our new signings as they start to mak appearances in the City team.

Transfer summary at the end of January.

League table! Come on City, 3rd or 4th is looking good now. As me move further away from 5th and 6th place.

Default February 2008 Review

After a hectic month of transfers in January, the Premiership was back in full flow in February. With a series of tough games coming up we knew how hard it may be to pick up points. With Chelsea coming up in the FA Cup 6th round, and essential games against Spurs and Newcastle, it was the perfect time for all the new signings to begin to gel. Team bonding trips to Chill Factor and a white water rafting centre took place in order for the team to get to know their new friends.

*NEWS*
- After progressing from the 4th and 5th rounds of the FA Cup in February the draw took place and City were drawn against Chelsea at the City of Manchester Stadium in early March.
- Juan Roman Riquelme opened his City account with a superb goal at Newcastle that came 3rd in Goal of the Month.

This month's games:

2nd Feb - PRM Bolton (H)
Result: W 1-0
Goals: Bojinov (83)
Man of the match: Onuoha
Image:
Michael Johnson is fouled by Kevin Nolan.

9th Feb - FAC4re. Q.P.R (H)
Result: W 2-1
Goals: Caicedo (23) Hamann (34)
Man of the match: Kerlon
Image:
Felipe Caicedo walks back to his own half after his goal.

16th Feb - FAC5 Nottm. Forrest (A)
Result: W 31
Goals: Benjani (25,59) Tyson og. (43)
Man of the match: Benjani
Image:
Micah Richards captained the side for the Forrest game.

23rd Feb - PRM Newcastle (A)
Result: D 1-1
Goals: Riquelme (35)
Man of the match: Riquelme
Image:
A tough game at St. James' Park was fought out in good spirit.

27th Feb - PRM Tottenham (A)
Result: L 1-3
Goals: Martins (12)
Man of the match: Aurelio
Image:
Stephen Ireland steps in for the injured Elano.

Manager's Comments: Our first loss in 10 games was disappointing but on the day Spurs were the better team. We now have to get our heads down and focus on the coming games which includes a tough game against Chelsea. If we can beat Chelsea in the 6th round then we believe that we can go all the way in the competition.

Not long to go now, COME ON CITY!!
