Manchester City's local feeder team Oldham Athletic could be offered The Citizen's new signing Gabriel Torje on loan. City manager Joe Friar has said that he wants the 17 yeard old to get 1st team football under his belt before he considers him for a place in City's matchday squads. The Romanian Under 21 international has said to have welcomed the deal but is unsure about how long to go. Deals with affiliate teams usually last a whole season but Torje is eager to come back to City during the season to see if he can find a way into the squad. | Credit to Apthered for the awesome sig. | | | 03-02-08, 05:07 PM | #11 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Manchester Posts: 296 Thanks: 112 Thanked 40 Times in 30 Posts | Boateng and Cabañas complete City switch. Manchester City have added another two more players to their squad in the summer transfer window. Salvador Cabanas (above) completes a £3million move from Mexican team America while Boateng signs for £1.1million from Israli club Beitar Jeruselum. Cabanas is an out and out striker and a regular starter for the Paraguay national team. Boateng, a Ghanain central midfielder will leave for the African Cup of Nations in January which could cause a problem in the City squad, should he develop into a first team regular. Both players are excited about playing in the Premiership and Joe Friar has said they need to adapt to Premier League life well come the start of the new season. "I've spoken with the players alot since their arrival and they know how chalenging the Premier League may turn out to be. They are both extremely happy and excited with all that's going on around them and their main focus is to help the team progress up the table and gain a good start in the Premier League. Torje loan takes U-turn! Gabriel Torje's proposed loan to Oldham Athletic is said to have collapsed at the last minute due to a breakdown in terms between the player and the club. Torje is said to have turned down a loan move to Oldham and wants to fight for his place in the City team. Our August fixtures went like this: PRM - Newcastle (H) W 3-0 - The season started brightly with a good win at home to Kevin Keegan's Newcastle. The gmae started brightly with City going 3-0 up before half time. Into the 2nd half and Newcastle began to attack more with City resorting to a more defensive tactic which kept out any more goals. City MOTM - Andrey Arshavin PRM - Everton (A) L 1-3 - The 2nd game of the season didn't go as well as Everton went 3-0 up like City had done 4 days earlier against Newcastle. Yakubu scored 2 with Yobo bagging another to finish City off. City snatched a consolation goal with 3 minutes left through Salvador Cabanas. City MOTM - Hard to pick out a good performance but Salvador Cabanas went about his job with minimal fuss, despite getting the results. PRM - Arsenal (H) D 0-0 - A tough game followed against Arsenal and it was made a much more harder job on the 58th minute when Richard Dunne brought down Robin Van Persie for a debateable penalty decision. Richard Dunne recieved a 2nd yellow card meaning City were down to 10 men and the skipper would miss the tough game away to Pompey. Gilberto took the penalty which was saved by 20 year old keeper Joe Hart who had a great game in goal. City MOTM - Joe Hart. PRM - Portsmouth (A) D 1-1 - Our 2nd away game of the season saw us face Portsmouth which we thought would have been a tougher game than Everton. City took the lead through Gelson Fernandes when the young midfielder broke trough the midfield, cutting in from the left, before hitting a brilliant curling effor from 18 yards out. City managed to hold onto the 1-0 lead up until the 88th minute when a cross came in from City target Mvuemba which wasn't cleared by the City defence and loanee Milan Baros pounced on the ball and put it past Joe Hart. City MOTM - Gelson Fernandes. CCR2 - Cheltenham (H) W 2-0 - A game that looked easy on paper turned out to be tough to get goals. The score was 0-0 at half time until the team were rallied at half time and goals from Daniel Sturridge and Darius Vassell with brilliant assists from Nery Castillo and Nedum Onuoha finished Cheltenham off. A good result and City progress to the 3rd round of the Carling Cup. City MOTM - Nery Castillo A average month finished with a positive note when Joe Hart was named Premier League Young Player of the Month which is a great reward for some fine form in the City goal. After progressing through to the 3rd round of the Carling Cup, City were drawn with Barnsley in the draw. A late transfer deadline day deal saw Steve Sidwell come to the City of Manchester Stadium on loan until the end of the season. The deal went through at 23:45, with a deal for Serginho falling through due to personal negotiations. Sidwell is ineligeble for the next game due to it being against Chelsea. | Credit to Apthered for the awesome sig. | | | 03-02-08, 09:38 PM | #13 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post | great read, KUTGW | | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to hotshot For This Useful Post: | | 03-02-08, 11:03 PM | #14 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Manchester Posts: 296 Thanks: 112 Thanked 40 Times in 30 Posts | September Update September 2007 September was a much better month for City with most of the tough games over for the 1st half of the season. The games went like this: PRM Chelsea (A) L 0-1 - A disappointing scoreline but we went in as underdogs and only expected a draw at best. Chelsea were not on top form but it was enough for them to ease past City without much of a scare. City MOTM - Valeri Bojinov PRM Bolton (H) W 3-0 - A great response by the City team after not winning in 4 league games. City put on a great show infront of their fans and were never in danger of conceeding to an average Bolton side. City MOTM - Elano PRM Aston Villa (A) W 3-1 - Another good performance by City away to Villa. The team showed great courage after going 1 behind to an early Gabriel Agbonlahor goal befoe 17 year old Daniel Sturridge came on to replace Valeri Bojinov to score 2 on his senior debut for the team. Elano finished off City's comeback with a goal on the 83rd minute. City's MOTM - Danniel Sturridge CCR3 Barnsley (H) W 2-0 - City's Carling Cup run progressed a step further when City's young team managed to overcome Barnsley 2-0. Goals from Jermaine Jenas and Emile Mpenza gave City a pass into the 4th round. All members of City's midfield were under 18 for this tie consisting of Fillipo Mancini, Thiago and Gabriel Torje who all looked very good players for their age. City's MOTM - Jermaine Jenas. PRM Sunderland (H) W 4-3 - Another confident performance by City was overshadowed by a not so convincing scoreling. Sunderland attacked City well and gave City the chance to capitalise and on-form striker Danny Sturridge banged in a 1st half hatrick before Sunderland pulled 2 back after half time. City grabbed another through skipper Richard Dunne which made Kenwyne Jones' late strike un-important. City's MOTM - Danny Sturridge. A good month was rounded off by Elano recieving the Player of the Month award and Vedran Corluka achieving Young Player of the Month, while Danny Sturridge came 3rd. | Credit to Apthered for the awesome sig. | | | 04-02-08, 02:28 PM | #15 (permalink) | | FMF Writer/FMF Mod lollol:P Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Dundalk, Ireland Posts: 2,417 Thanks: 197 Thanked 330 Times in 267 Posts | great story so far joe, really enjoying it, might even start one of my own this time | Current Game SV Red Bull Salzburg Austrian Bundesliga Champions 2007/2008 Austrian Super Cup Winners 2008 Hang on I better say "Red Bull, it gives you wings" or ill be sacked | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to John10 For This Useful Post: | | 04-02-08, 03:47 PM | #16 (permalink) | | Co-founder of FMFormation's Graphical Challenges Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Near Glasgow Posts: 2,132 Thanks: 360 Thanked 248 Times in 136 Posts | great story mate, KUTGW | R.I.P Tommy Burns - You'll Never Walk Alone | | | 04-02-08, 07:06 PM | #17 (permalink) | | vBookie Team, Member of the Ozza Family Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Cheshire Posts: 2,276 Thanks: 540 Thanked 339 Times in 277 Posts | Excellent mate, Come On City! | | | | 04-02-08, 09:08 PM | #18 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Manchester Posts: 296 Thanks: 112 Thanked 40 Times in 30 Posts | October Update Future City legend Thiago Alcantara. October 2007 October turned out to be the best month of the season so far as City went through all of their games unbeaten. Aswell as progressing through to the 5th round of the Carling Cup, the Blues added a number of young players to their squad. A total of 8 new players will be arriving in January with 6 from Barcelona and 2 from Real Madrid. Spotted by chief scout Graham Carr, the players will go straight into the reserve team so assistant manager Hans Backe can track their progress. At the end of the month after progressing to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup, City were drawn away to Tottenham and the tie will be played on the 12th of December 2007. October's games went like this: PRM Middlesbrough (A) D 1-1 - An average City performance after we went into the game believing we could win. A goal from Martin Petrov on his return to fitness after 1 minute was cancelled out by a good individual effort from Jeremie Aliadiere for Boro. City MOTM - Martin Petrov. PRM Reading (H) W 3-0 - Back to winning ways for City in a game that proved a walk in the park against a below average Reading team. Jermaine Jenas scoring the pick of the goals as he scored 2 to help City retain a place in the top 4. City MOTM - Jermaine Jenas. PRM Derby (A) W 2-0 - Another game where we went in as favourites and managed to please the media and pundits. Goals from Danny Sturridge and Elano gave City a win in what proved to be a tougher game than we thought. Emmanuel Villa came close for Derby but Joe Hart was never in danger of loosing his clean sheet. City MOTM - Vedran Corluka. CCR4 Preston (H) W 4-1 - Once again City were drawn at home in the Carling Cup, this time in the form of Championship opposition Preston. After a tight first half with nothing in the way of chances for either team, City managed to crack the tought Preston defence to grab the lead just before half time. Micah Richards doubled the lead with a brilliant header before Danny Sturridge got a 2nd for himself and suprise star in central midfield Vedran Corluka bagged City's 4th. City MOTM - Thiago Alcantara. The most exciting prospect to emerge from City this month has been the rise of Thiago Alcantara. With Daniel Sturridge stealing the limelight after scoring 9 goals in 8 appearances, Thiago has been performing superbly in the City reserve team and has put in fantastic performances when called upon in the Carling Cup. Many are tipping him for stardom at City and after his free transfer from Barcelona, he is the manager's top tip to watch out for in the next couple of months. "Thiago should get his chance in the Premier League soon." said Blue's manager Joe Friar. " We have to be very carefull with him because he is a fantastic player but is still so young. You forget that he is only 16 and despite all the fan's ambitions we will know when the time is right to introduce him. Danniel is a great example of a young player doing well for us. When we have called upon him in the team he has performed brilliantly with minimal fuss. All we can say about Thiago is that he is a great prospect but shouldn't be rushed into the team." The month ended well again with Martin Petrov coming 2nd in the Player of the Month award while Vedran Corluka won Young Player of the Month for the 2nd month running. Micah Richards came 2nd which is his first feature in the awards.
