Default Making a Texture Icon

Hello, In this tutorial I'll be teaching you how to make an icon with a render & textures. Please be aware, you must have some Photoshop knowledge to complete this tutorial.

Firstly, open Adobe Photoshop whichever verson, and go to file --> New --> and make the dimensions 100x100. Now you have a blank canvas, with nothing on it. So now I will get a photo from google

It's to big, so I resize it by going to EDIT --> FREE TRANSFORM and I make it smaller to fit my 100x100 document. Now this is how your design should look like so far:

Now you can download a texture pack, you can find one HERE. Just download one of the packs and open one in photoshop, and drag it into your current design with your player. Now it should look like this:

Now by clicking in the layer panal, where it says NORMAL there should be a drop down box, you can now choose HARD LIGHT, it can vary for different textures, usually you can try LIGHTEN, OVERLAY, SOFTLIGHT and even SCREEN, you just need to experiment. Now you should get a nice little icon like this:

Now you're done, just add some text. After that create a new layer, click CNTRL+A , go to EDIT --> Stroke --> 1 px stroke outside.
And you're ending result IS:

If you need any help, just ask me in the official thread on Football Manager Forum (Powered by Invision Power Board)

You havnt told anyone anything, Atleast tell them how to make the texture. You might aswell say go online grab a pre made icon and your done, well done.

Well thats my opinion anyway.

Erm, this tutorial is to teach you HOW to use textures, not make textures. I simply told you where to download it, and how to use it on your graphic. It tells you how to do it, since it tells you to put it on what mode and etc.

What I meant was a better guide would have been how, atleast its some use.

Also you didnt render anything.

All im saying is I dont think it was worth making a guide for something which is take a pic off the internet take a texture form there, put the image over the texture, change the light setting/opacity.

You need NO photoshop knowledge to do this, lol

Maybe for someone like you, it might not need any knowledge, but imagine a guy who just got the program and have no idea what a layer box is? And fine I used the 'term' render wrong, what I meant was to put a texture on a picture.

And I think it is worth a guide, because many people ask how to make icons and I thought it would be nice of me to make a guide for people who wanted it.

Sure this isn't amazing or unique, but it's a start. A designer can simply after a few tries try some new techniques. This is only made for you to get started. If you don't believe me visit his thread, and look at his amazing icons.
