Default Big Game today, but no goalies!

    Hello All,
Team: Manchester City. Shay Given was injured last week, and in the friday training session Joe Hart was was injured as well. (The January window has closed.)

Now, today (Saturday), I tried to get one of the numerous under-18 goalies to play the position but they all seem to be ineligible, something to do with having "already played a game today" (-- what, all 5 of them?)

So what can I do? Am I forced to put an outfield player in goal and hope for the best?

Or is there some sort of super special emergency manouver I can use to land a temporary goalie?

(No goalies out on loan, BTW)

    Regards,
    Doug

I guess your U18 are with the reserves/U18? I think you are fooked, but place a outfield keeper and hope for the best....or maybe holiday mode - that might work.

what's that you say? Holiday mode?

Are you suggesting I go on holiday for a week, so that I won't be around for a possibly humiliating defeat?

Or perhaps I don't understand how Holiday mode works...

Well no, sometimes Holiday mode confuses the game and it does stuff it said it couldn't do.

For example, I couldn't register a few players for my CL team as there was too many europeans or something, I holidayed and they were legible. So I could play them :P

Well, if you want to be able to play a keeper in goal, your best bet is to go on holiday for one day (the match day), and ur assistant might be able to play a keeper in somehow. But isnt there some "black named" players who like appear if all ur keepers are illegible?

Can't you get an "emergency goalkeeper", when playing in the English premier league? I read that on the league rules, in FM09...

Teams have got keepers on emergency loans in the Premier League in real life before.

This happened to me once, I ended up playing Peter Crouch in goal and I won, think he conceded though, can't remember.

    Thanks for everyone's comments.

When I went to the team selection screen and checked the under 18s list again, a new greyed out player was there, as a commenter suggested.

He was crap but better than nothing. The business of assigning a team number, etc. didn't occur so I guess this is SI's way to help gamers out of this very difficult situation.

    Regards,
    Doug
