slow the tempo down, short passing to keep possesion and maybe set the team as defensive oh and put time wasting on in the later stages of the game. might also help to have a deep defensive line for the last 15 mins or so and put counter attacking on as well

seems to be working. at home to liverpool i was 1-0 up and did wot u said and they came at me and i picked there attacks off to win 3-0. thanks m8 great advice!!!!!!

I just cant hold onto leads.

Was winning 2-1 against Reading with 15 mins to go, so I go to a tactic i created using the guide on this site, a few mins later, 2-2, scored again and with 4 mins left conceded to make it 3-3.

Then at home against Ipswich, 2-1 lead until the 87th minute, (was defensive from the 90th min onwards) then they level.

Driving me nuts!

What do you think is better when defending, 5 at the back and 4 in midfield, or 4 at the back and 5 in midfield?

I would go 442 and play a diamond if you cant hold leads then in last few mintues set time wasting to high and passing style to direct get the ball up the other end of the pitch and make sure the offside traps on

u dont want offside traps on will kill your defence as means u will need it to be high up pitch in order to work a offside
my way is set it to long passing for every 1 except your attacking players who will be in short

also have your defenders and midfielders with back arrows this will get men back and pretty much make walls infront of their players
also no 1 has mentioned creative freedom u need this to be on low as u can except for maybe the odd striker(one with alot of speed) so he can hit on counter and also have him on closing down all time as will help defence a bit since he will allways be in their face (could sub the striker for a different player who has ok finishing but good tackling) so he can do tackles from the front before it hits your defence and also be able to hit them on counter
u want also to be as narrow as u can afford and also ive noticed alot of people will concede at corners late on put your 2 biggest players on both posts with your next 2 biggest on their tall players then every 1 else marking the other people

i know this sounds like its alot of work to do to shut out but if u want to be succesful at shuting up shop then u need to be able to take time to get it right
once ya done most things i would just save the new defensive tactic so then u can just switch come defensive time and then can easily just sort out the man marking

but wot is the point if u have a deep defensive line then u arent gonna be able to do offside anyway as u want as many players blocking the net as u can and offside trap only works when u have a defense line that has gd teamwork and gd anticipation and that pretty means everybody in ya defence to have them stats otherwise they will fuck up at a point and cost u a goal ishould know ive tried

well your doing it wrong the offside trap is prob more dangerous up the picth as a long ball over the top in to space ran on to by a quick forward (Owen before he was crocked) leaves you open to one on ones with the keeper

I stick with 4 defenders, 2 defensive midfielders with backward arrows, a centre midfield, 2 wingers with arrows going forward and a lone striker

I tend to score goals too. Creative Freedom to low so noone will mess around, short passing and slowing it down cause ur opponent will be more attacking and will leave space behind. PLaying offsides a bit too dangerous, it leaves space so I play very deep defensive line and the formation is like 6 man behind the ball with 2 wingers and a lone stirker waiting for counter attack! I have never used offside cause it never works for me lol.
