Default Defensive Tactic

Ive been scoring alot at my new club 36 goals in 15 games in charge but I've been conceeding a fair bit as well. I usually go ahead but in the later stages I sometimes conceed sloppy goals.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a stategy for holding onto a lead once I go in front?

yeah on this version my scores have been crazy. I thought it might just be because Im playing in welsh league but Ive had 5-5 4-4 and 4-2 and 5-3 havn't been uncommon.

There is a way, and it's a lot simpler than many people think.

Well, I think so anyway...

When I'm in the lead by a goal or two, I tend to do the following, even as early as half-time:

Reduce tempo to "slow"
Reduce passing to "short"
Increase width to "wide"
Increase timewasting to "mixed" (middle of slider)

The effect I find is that my team is now playing "control" football. They keep possession by playing short simple passes, making the opponent chase for the ball. Because invariably they have also changed to a more attacking formation, they will have players moving out of position to get forward, or to close down heavily trying to win the ball.

I then find my team is playing to keep the ball and knocks the ball happily around from player to player, looking for openings. When the openings appear, they're clinical in exploiting the space and creating opportunities.

I find this approach works well because I'm not changing shape and unsettling the team, player instructions stay the same and I usually always score more goals.

So as you see, keep it simple.

Now even Cristiano Ronaldo can't do that!!

Yeap. For me i do the opposite

Increase tempo to Quick
Passing to Direct
Decrease Width to Narrow
Increase Defensive Line to Push Up

Then play Offside + Counter Attack + Time Wasting to Middle

Though against big teams it would really sux. But most of the time it work wonders and added more goals.

u dont want your defense line pushing up as will leave alot of space for the counter attack which usualy people will score late on due to your defence bein tired u want them stayin back and holdin the ball as long as they can

thanks to Josh for makin this awesome sig!

This is true for slow Back 4's. Usually when im against the lower half of the league i do that. Instead of backfiring i get more goals.

Since im playing man marking instead of zonal The CB's will head the ball upfront (if theres any ball passed high unless its a through pass then its a different story). And any counterattack would be fairly easy for the top 4 team.

I know holding the ball is good but heck, even if im in control of possesion somehow the game simply makes it very hard.

Example, im winning 1 - 0 against Chelsea and its the 89th minute. Extra time added and its +2 minutes, However the game ends at 97th minute and chelsea scored 3 and that suxed!
