is it possible to create a total football tactic in fm 2008? i am currently trying with my ajax side,, playing an attacking 4-3-3. most players have swap with instructions,, closing down in high with most plays and two of me three forwards have free roles. results have been mixed so far,,, only 1 defeat out of 12 games tho.. just wondered if anyone has any helpful ideas  thanks

well i mean like the holland team of 1974
quick passing,,playes covering each other in defence. movement whic defenders found hard to track.... using the offside trap effectivelty
the Total Football principle of space, creating space for yourself and destroying your opponent's space. |

then you should try my tactic -quick passing, high tempo, a lot of shots, attacking wingbacks, and good defence.just try it a few matches and tell me how it is 5-3-2 Super Attacking Formation |

yeah ill have a look at it dude.....
anyway anyone else have any idea how to go about doing this....my teams making a lot of fluid moves and making chances on goal, and my defenders are covering each other at least a bit .... but at the moment i seem to be getting a lot of 2-2 draws ,,,ive moved from a 4-3-3 to a 4-2-4
perhaps some advice on not leaking so many goals but keeping total football?

What settings have u got your defenders on mate?, maybe a screenshot of your formation and team instructions aswell so we can see and comment maybe, that way we can perhaps all pitch in and try to help you out. |

Ok the 3 defenders settings are : Mentality - denfensive (6) creative freedom - Much (20) passing - Team closing down- Whole pitch (20) Tackling - Team Forward runs ,,,etc - Rarely through balls - Often i have 1 out of the 3 defenders man marking and all have a free role Every Player has free roles in the team tho,,,except keeper who is set as a "sweeper Keeper"   |

i have made a tactic now which i belive is like total football,,its avalible for download in the tactics and training section,,,,sorry for any spelling mistakes,,,i have a hangover at the minute :( |

no that was a slight problem,,,i have made what i think is a better tactic now,,, will up load it soon,,, it passes the ball very well,, anyway im bck to bed cos im hungover again :( |

From what i see, Your defenders wont listen to your instructions due to them having Free Roles and High Creativity.
Try lowering it to normal n remove the free role. Though i wonder if closing down high is good. If one of them goes up then theres a hole where the other 2 might try to close. Then again if theres more than 2 players up front they might get pass your defense.
How about setting your Wingers to Full Closing down and mentality Normal. Im not so sure myself though im just suggesting. | | | | | | |
