In Real Life
David was originally with Notts County’s youth squad and made four appearances in League Two for the club's first team at the end of the 2003-04 season. He was snapped up by Southampton and joined their academy in the summer of 2004. He was a member of Southampton's youth team that reached the final of the FA Youth Cup in 2005, losing on aggregate to Ipswich Town.
At the start of the 2005-06 season he made his Saints debut as a substitute in the 1-0 Carling cup defeat against Mansfield, and also returned to Notts County for a brief spell to gain more first team experience. Although he failed to score in that stay, this was a mere blip in what was otherwise a phenomenal season, which saw him score 44 goals for the Saints’ Reserves and Under-18 teams, including a hat-trick in the Under-18s play-off final in which Saints beat Aston Villa 3-2.
In FM08
In FM08 David McGoldrick is one of those strikers that are labelled as 'Power Houses'. He has a good eye for goal, and very good anticipation and composure. This means McGoldrick can use his good anticipation, to get through on goal, compose himself and slot the ball home for a goal. McGoldrick will develop into a true talent aswell. In the spoilers below I will show you him at the start of the game, and about 5 seasons into the game.
Attributes during 07/08 season
Attributes during 11/12 season
Strengths
McGoldrick has a good finishing ability, even at the start of the game when he is just 19. That and his very high composure means he will score alot of goals for you, or against you. Another strength is that McGoldrick does develop, he will develop into a world class forward by the time he is about 25/26.
Weaknesses
A weakness of McGoldrick is his work rate, as you can see from the first spoiler he has a work rate of only 9. This means he doesn't work as hard as he should meaning he needs a kick up the butt every so often. However I found you can get round this by giving him his own individual team talk. Another weakness of McGoldrick is his heading, not only is his heading attribute very poor, but his agility and balance attributes are too, this simply means McGoldrick cannot head a ball.
Conclusion
To conclude; I believe McGoldrick to be a decent signing for lower league prem sides in his first seasons as a professional, however by about 2010/11 he should be snapped by top prem sides, as he really does master how to hit the big time.
