He previously played for the renowned Irish schoolboy team Home Farm. Garvan plays as a central midfielder and has been compared to Steven Gerrard. Garvan turned down offers from Celtic, Fulham and Nottingham Forest before joining Ipswich Town in November 2004. He subsequently became a regular in the Town team that won the FA Youth Cup in 2005. However he missed the second leg of final against Southampton after being rushed to hospital with a virus on the eve of the game. He made his senior debut for Town against Cardiff City in August 6 2005 and during his debut season with the senior team, 2005-06, he made 31 league appearances and scored 3 goals. During the 2006-07 season he made a further 27 league appearances and scored 1 further goal On Football Manager 2008: A good signing for most Championship sides. Owen has alot of potential to be a good Premiership midfielder. He starts of at the age of 19 playing for Championship side Ipswich on a professional contract, relatively unknown. Ipswich often try to offer a new contract straight away to get the youngster on their books until about 2010. Prodominantly a Central Midfielder, Garvan can also be deployed in a defensive midfield role. You can approach to buy him at the beginning for a price of between 2,500,000 and 4,500,000 but Ipswich really like this youngster and will proberbly be looking for 4,000,000 or more. He will want a contract 4,500 per week and then a signing on fee around the region of 100,000. He also has alot of potential to be a good player and as the game continues he will turn into a player good enough for the premiership, A Real work horse midfielder similar to what Gerrard does for Liverpool, to see Owen Garvan in 2010 click here. Tactical Instructions: My advice is to play Garvan in a central midfield role with perhaps a defensive mentality with a few forward runs, or if your going more defensive then deploy him in a defensive midfield role. Strengths: Really good in the air. Light-Hearted character. Weaknesses: Set pieces are not a strong point, especially long throws. I Believe him to be a fairly inconsistent player. Conclusion: If your a top Premiership team looking for Europe and Prem glory then avoid signing Garvan for a while until he develops more, Although if your battling for Promotion in the lower leagues hes a perfect buy, Or maybe if your a League one or lower team then try and loan him for a while. Im also Ipswich on FM and he is a great Centre Mid, he performs more then my other CM which are Norris, Miller, Quinn, Velice Sumuloski and Matty Holland. He provides alot of goals aswell as scoring a few. Matt Holland seems to be a good partner to him so him with an exprienced player works.
