Matías Fernández (born on May 15, 1986, in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a Chilean football player, who currently plays for Spanish club Villarreal CF. He is also known by several nicknames such as Mati, El Pelusa, and Matigol.
Fernández is an attacking midfielder, a playmaker, fantastic dribbler. and a free kick specialist. He can also play as a striker or centre forward, if required. Before leaving to Villarreal CF he was awarded the South American Football Of the Year award in 2006 for his campaign with Chilean club Colo-Colo.
He likes to lead his team on the field by example. He is known for his free kicks, powerful shots, great vision, and magnificent ball handling. He has been compared to fellow Chilean David Pizarro.
Matías Fernández has been the Villarreal new winter signing and he is expected to be one of the best players of the world. This chilean young midfielder has a great technical condition, speed, ability and ball control.

Matias starts the game at the age of 21, even then hes a real star and develops as the game furthers to be a world beater.
He can play in 5-6 positions easily.
He plays best in an attacking midfield role however he can be employed as in a secondary role as a left winger.
He has a minimum fee release clause of 118,000,000 although a bid in the region of 16,000,000 should make him yours.
He will proberbly want a 5 year contract with wages at around 45,000 per week and a 1,800,000 signing on fee.
Fans will be happy with this purchase if you can secure his signature.
He develops into a truely world class player and through his career will win many awards im sure, ive also included a screenshot courtesy of Fedorico Roma Fan of his attributes in the year 2017, when hes at the age of 30.

Tactical Instructions:
As I Said before his best position is attacking midfield whether that be in the centre (where I would recommend most) or on the left.
Perhaps make him the playmaker as he has great dribbling, technique, flair and teamwork attributes.
Hes also a fab free kick taker so to set him as free kick taker wouldnt be a bad move either.

Strengths:
Hes got a great technique, especially when striking the ball.
He also enjoys playing in the big matches.
Very professional person.
Great potential to be a leading prem midfielder.

Weaknesses:
Might need to do alot of adapting to fit into English lifestyle.
Work permit perhaps.
Doesnt have the mentality or ability to be really affective in the air.

Conclusion:
I Think that if your a big side with enough money and want to be a side battling for the title and europe, this season, and seasons to come then you should seriously think about signing Fernandez.

Bare in mind he may alos be called Matiaz Fernandez, as I think that is his name on Football Manager 2008.
