Default Chris McCann

Chris McCann

Christopher John McCann (born 21 May 1987 in Dublin) is a promising young Irish footballer currently playing for Burnley football club. Brought over to Lancashire from the Irish club Home Farm, Chris progressed through the youth system at Burnley, and made his senior debut in the 2005–06 season, coming onto the pitch as an early substitute against Coventry City.

A tall and lean midfielder, possessing a deft left foot and powerful long shot, Chris is hoped to have a long and successful career in football, and has helped fill the void of losing previous youth favourite Richard Chaplow to West Brom. McCann scored his first senior goal in a 3–0 win against Ipswich Town, and his versatility combined with the small squad forced by lack of money at the club may well ensure his further development.

McCann started the 2006–07 season in the first team squad, but reverted to the substitutes' bench after a few games as he sought to confirm his potential at Championship level. However, injuries saw him pressed into action as an emergency centre-back and left-back and he took these opportunities - re-establishing himself in the first-team line-up. On the 20 November 2007, McCann opted out of the Irish U21 squad to play Bulgaria two hours prior to kick-off claiming he was wasting his time having been selected on the bench. An indication of how this may affect his future in the Irish set up was provided when U21 manager Don Givens was asked if he would pick him again and he replied "Will I pick him again? Would you?"

Chris McCann on Football Manager 2008

My experience of McCann on FM isn’t that vaste as I only brought the player once, this was on my current game with Nottm Forest, he was purchased for 1.8m at the start of the second season, the main reason for this was his versatility on the pitch. His main postion is CM but he can also perform well at a number of other positions on the pitch, this is best shown below:-

During the time i’ve had McCann in my team he has come to build a formidable partnership in midfield with Lewis McGugan, and with both of them being under the age of 23 the future sure looks bright for my Forest side, with the two of them helping my side finish 7th in the Championship in our first season up. Overall Chris McCann as the potential to be a very good Championship player from what i’ve seen so far

and with him being so young I would recommend him to any one who can afford him, although maybe not ready for the premiership straight away he can overtime only get better and who knows maybe even establish himself as a good Premiership CM.

Great guide that mate!
Never noticed him before except on my Burnley game. My scout at City said he could become a decent Premiership midfielder in the future so i might go for him.

Credit to Apthered for the awesome sig.
