As most of you have noticed, FMFormation was down from thursday till monday. We apologize for the downtime and hope it won’t happen again for a very long time. The reason why this happened is because FMF has become bigger and more popular than the server which we were on could handle. We shared the old server with four other people but because FMF was asking so much from the server, it couldn’t properly run both FMF as the sites of those other four. That was the reason why the webosting company shut us down, so the other sites on that server would stay up.
The only possible solution for us was going on a Dedicated Server… the famous Dedicated Server. For the ones who don’t know what a Dedicated Server; it’s a server (PC) which is only used by 1 client/person. In this case, we of FMF are the only one who have a site running on that PC. This is of course fantastic for FMF because from now on we don’t have any problems with other sites who makes the server go slow or even go down. The biggest downside is that a Dedicated Server is pretty expensive. The yearly costs of the server alone will be € 1.200,-. Besides that, we have multiple forum software costs which makes the total yearly bills worth € 1.400,-.
That is the reason why we would like to ask everyone who visits and uses FMF for different reasons to consider making a (small) donation so we can keep FMF up and running for a very long time. For only € 5,- you already become a Donator for a year and get access to some cool features which are for Donators only. For € 15,- you become a life-time Donator and enjoy your special status for a very long period.
