Default FM: Live - Federations

Written by mikedadude

The latest installment of "A Beta Tester's Insight" takes a look within the role that federations play in FML and the benefits of them.

Apologies for the lack of FML articles over the past month but holidays and what not have kept me occupied, nonetheless you have one now.

First up, let's have a look at the federation overview. One can clearly see that there's several federations with different reputation, amount of teams and media money allocated. Let me explain each of them seperately.

Membership Fee: The amount of money you pay to enter the federation, this is a monthly fee. You can however change federations at the end of the season and join another one, so you are by no means constricted to one. The higher monthly fee you pay the more cash the federation will have to spend on prize money for competitions and injury compensation (I'll get to that later on).

Media Money Allocated: As you can see the amount in the federations vary greatly, a federation gets more media money if there members are higher up in the ranks. For example, if one federation had the top 5 ranked clubs it would get a lot more media money than a federation that had the clubs ranked from 10th to 15th. Also, the more teams participating the easier it is to get more media money, obviously. Media money is mostly used to help fund the prize money for competitions (you will see some of the crazy competition money later).

Reputation: Similar to media money, this is dependant on the amount of high ranked clubs that participate within the federation.

Other: Fairly obvious, you can see that different federations have different sizes etc. At the moment there are just over 800 registered beta users with more expected to follow. Sadly there are a few who are inactive and will hopefully get booted and replaced.

Let's look at a specific federation then. The XFA, one where I'm a participant in, as you can see from the screenshot there are multiple leagues and competitions. What will happen is that the top clubs in the championship and division 1 will get promoted while the worst clubs in the premier league and championship will get demoted. In other words, a federation mirrors a country to some degree - each with their own rules, competitions and structure. You can also see from the screenshot the prize money allocated to each league, along with a general description of the federation and who it should appeal to. Fairly straight forward stuff.

Now on to the federation's set of rules. This not only describes the benefits of the federation but how it's structured, except the runner of the federation seems to have forgotten about the other cups in the federation. Nonetheless you get the point. As for the benefits, here you will find one of the largest benefits there is in FML - Injury compensation. This will be a godsend for the clubs who get their 60, 000 a day player injured, thanks to joining a federation they will only have to pay half of the players wages for the duration of his injury. This includes both types of injuries - green and red (same system as to FM. Green = light, Red = proper injury).

Here you can see who the organizers of the federation are. The organizers are the one's who are in charge of making sure the promoted/demoted teams are in the correct division and help form the competitions altogether. You can also view who else is in the federation as well by clicking the joined button. The assignments button shows which club is in which division/cup.

This screenshot shows you examples of the injury compensation. As for prize money, it used to be that the guaranteed money you would get (money allocated to last place of the division) was given to you in daily increments, this season it's been given upfront for some reason. Nonetheless, everything else there is striaght forward.

Here's an example of the prize money given to the members in division 1 depending on their position. In contrast to the bottom league of the XFA, let's have a look at the prize money for the premiership. A whopping 2.15m for last place, that's a lot in FML.

As for the standings, that is a screenshot of the division 1 standings after 2 days. As you can see the ones who play often can still get their games in, there are quite a few members on holiday at the moment which is why there's quite a bit of inactivity.

Last but not least, you can still have a look at the top goalscorer, assist maker etc. like in FM.

Why join a federation?
  • Easier to climb the ranks.
  • 50% Injury compensation will help you a lot financially.
  • Competition money.
  • Easy way to get games - lot's of cups/leagues etc. not only for your senior but junior teams.

Is it really worth the 100k or in some cases 200k monthly fee?
  • Yes. You get the membership fee back by just finishing last place in the lower league for example and get a profit.

How long does a season last in one of these federations?
  • 1 real month equates to 1 game season in this gameworld. Upon release there will be different speed gameworlds though.

Well I hope you enjoyed that read, expect another article upon FML in the next month.
