Championship Manager used to be great for this - I had Del Piero at Liverpool. He kept saying he was going to retire so I'd buy ready replacements, then he'd keep going. He was still scoring goals at 45 although if you left him out there for 90 mins his condition dropped to about 30%.

Thanks to Liveru for the sig

I've got a few save games currently on the go. The oldest player for each one is,

Zenit 2008: Olexandr Gorshkov (38).
Newcastle 2014: Chris Kirkland (33).
England 2010: Rio Ferdinand (31).
Everton 2009: Phil Neville (32).
England 2015: Nigel Reo-Coker (31).
Ipswich 2008: Alan Lee (29).

So not overly old as you can see. I tend to get rid of players when they reach 30 anyway, unless I think I can use them.

My mate called me ruthless because as soon as Gerrard hit 30 on our online game, he was gone. The same with Jamie Carragher and Sami Hyypia was gone in the first transfer window, lol.

I'm a bit like Ru, and when they hit 30 they're normally out of the door or into the reserves.

I do have some exceptions but 31 is as about as old as they get before they're replaced. That's normally because I'm getting promoted and need better players.

I never let players over 30 frequent in my first team. I do get them if they are experienced though (senna diop etc) as I use them as tutors.

at the moment, oldest is 36, oldest that plays is 29, (marius niculae)

Virtually all the playerss I brought in for Pro Vercelli in 2007 were over 33 LOL. Vitaliano Bonnucelli led the line for me at the grand old age of 39! Scored 15 goals too! Think I had D'Agostino 23, Novembre and Petribiasi on loan who were 20. The rest were all at least 32 if I recall correctly (aside from Nardi, he was 29). Esposito top assisted from the left wing at 35! :)

Bear in mind Pandev's game is an edit ;)

Fo me it depends what type of player they are when it comes to deciding to move them on after 30 or not - I 've found young players less and less effective as FM has evolved. My silly Tottenham team of FM2006 (which won 4 CLs in 5 years - and 6 Premierships in 7), were quite young - average age 23/4. But I've noticed FM has balanced out the experience advantage older players have. So now, especially if they are a 'passer' or 'leader' they stay until they can't meet the acceptable standard. Of course if they rely on their pace to see them though, they're straight out the door while I can still get a good price, eg Rodrigo Palacio.

There was a glitch on CM4 where a player didn't retire as long as his contract had over 1 year left on it and I ended up with David Beckham at the age of 45+ and he was still there, for some reason he was still challenging for places even though I was in the premiership, he was a bench warmer but at 45+ he was good.

Current Game/s

Starting at Wexford Youths, Manager Darling goes for world domination, but he's gotta start somewhere.
