A question for you all - I don't know if anyone knows, or just wants to speculate, but I'm interested nonetheless... (it may have been raised before but I couldn't find it):

Are player stats absolute or relative? i.e. Is a player with heading of 20, for example, who is worth £20m and plays for England, better at heading than a player with heading 20, who is worth £5k and plays for a non-league side?

I seem to remember reading a while back that the player stats were relative to the overall quality of the player (something that is hard to judge as it isn't just value that governs it), so you have to make your own judgement about whether two players with equal stats have equal abilities, but this seems a bit silly. That said, you do sometimes see players in lower leagues with great stats who clearly aren't as good as the average players in your Premiership / Serie A etc squad.

So what do we all reckon? Does anyone actually know?!

OK, so let me give another example.

I'm Crystal Palace. I have a centre back with heading 20, valued at £500k. I'm playing Arsenal, for whom their striker has heading 16 but is worth £20m. Will my centre back be better in the air (Assume the same for jumping) than their forward, or is having a rating of 16 when you're a world class player better than having a rating of 20 when you're a lower league journeyman?

Yes, your player will be a better header of the ball, but other attributes such as positioning will come into effect, meaning the other player may win more headers

Positioning, movement etc. all come into effect when it comes down to it.

OK then... how about if you have 2 players with exactly the same stats, but one is at a lower league club and worth say £100k and the other at a premiership club and worth say £5m? There is definitely a premium applied in the game in terms of value to players at higher league clubs, but would those two players otherwise be identical in their ability, or is their ability proportional to how good they are overall?

okay the difference is the kind of service he gets and the players he is surrounded by
or one of the players with the exact same stats might also have a bad personality that might see him as selfish etc. so he might be a better or worse player

Just thought I would like to mention, that there are no players that play in the lower leagues that "have the same stats as a Premiership player" so it doesn't make a difference, but the fact is, if a nonj-league player with 20 heading came up against a premiership player with 15+ heading, odds are the premiership player will win it cos if the prem player has 15+ heading, odds are that he has better positioning, jumping, balance etc.

Hope this clears things up.

players stats are different in all leagues for example, a conference player with 15 finishing, is just as good in that standard of league as a player in the premiership with 20 finishing,

you canot determine players value on 1 stats, as for all technical stats there are always mental attributes which actually determine how good he will be.
e.g. a player with 20 finishing may sound attractive, but if he has low composure, low bravery and low determinati0on the chances are he wont score very many goals.

also there is other stuff then just the stats u can see that determines how good he is like for one the big match stat is he gonna perform at the big matches
also his personality can affect how that person plays
there is that many unknown factors that u cannot just solely go on stats

Well i had Nathan Delfouneso on loan from Aston Villa for my Redditch side in the Blue Square Premier, he got 31 goals in 31 games. He returned to Villa and got 15 gaols in the Premiership. So no, i don't think it matters what league you are playing in.
