Default Who to play, who to sell....

Hi all, just finished first season with Liverpool (4th, CL semis, crap in FA Cup and League Cup). All was going well and I kept up with the 'big three' until the last month when i lost every single game (perfect time to lose form hey)? Lost to Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea home throughout season but had some unexpected victories away from Anfield that kept me in the chase e.g. Newcastle, been playing this since Champ Man 2 in 1995 and they've always been my bogey side as Liverpool. Anyway, a little background but that is not my question.

Here is my squad at the start of season two (please bear in mind I am on the lookout for wider attacking players and defenders but every offer for people such as Silva keeps getting rejected) -

I'm pretty happy with my GK, wing backs (Barragan and Insua are really coming on and getting good game time) and of course strikers (Villa at 22.5m a bargain, wanted to leave). My real problem is choosing a formation that suits the players I have, particularly in midfield. I offloaded Downing and Bentley after season 1 as I've never been convinced wingers are as beneficial in FM as attacking midfielders 'a la' Barcelona.

As I see it, Gerrard should play behind Villa and Torres (Babel is my back-up/super-sub/'shock' striker, Piatti a new arrival taking Gerrard's place in League Cup games/games of little importance). This leaves me with 3 midfielders to choose out of Mascherano, Martinez (who joined in January and has been very promising), Lucas, Denilson and Banega (the latter is definately back-up material for this season but i do want to give him games when i can). I'm thinking Martinez to play as he offers alot in attack, as well as Mascherano for the same reasons in defence. This leaves Lucas and Denilson. I'd say Lucas however Denilson is whining like a baby, and I'm just not sure who to play. One of these midfield players needs to be sold, but who, they're all sao promising?

Thanks if you're still with me, final question, what formation should i adopt here (again, if you can recommend some attacking midfielders please do as I am on the lookout with 40M burning a hole)? I've racked my brains for ages to find something effective to play to everyone's stengths but am having no luck.

Thanks.

I would choose 4-2-2-2. Reina in Goal, Carragher and Skrtel in Centre Defense, With Rafinha and Insua as your full backs. Banega and Mascherano in the "2" and Lucas can rotate with any of them. You have quite a bit of centre/attacking midfield so you could have Gerrard, Piatti in the other "2", leaving Torres and Villa as your attack.

An alternative could be 4-2-3-1, With Lucas and Denilson beign your backup for Mascherano and Banega. Gerrard, Piatti and another attacking midfielder of your choice in the 3, leaving Torres or Villa upfront, as you only have 3 strikers, you got to rotate alot. So I advise you to buy another striker and maybe another midfielder? (Lulinha, Marvin, etc)

PS. How do you take screenshots the way you do Augustus? The only way i know is to put the actual screeny so u can click to enlarge or put a hyperlink. Please tell me how u did it as i prefer it that way,

Thanks. I saw an article on here a few years ago how to do those screenshots. Basically, you need to 'print screen' on the picture of your choice ingame, then minimize the game and open Paint, go to 'Edit' then 'Paste'. Hopefully that picture is then displayed in Paint. Save that image (desktop or wherever), open your web browser and go to ImageShack® - Image Hosting, click on the grey box that says 'browse', locate your picture and double click it. The path should then be displayed in the long box to the left of the grey 'browse' button. At the bottom of the webpage there is a box bordered in red which says 'host it', click that and wait while it uploads.

A new screen appears, with 4 boxes of what looks like crap. All you need to do is now highlight the text in the second box down ('Thumbnail for forums 1'), then paste that in your thread box here on the fm forums.

That's it, you can preview the post to see the thumbnail picture in your thread, then when you post it all people have to do is click it and it opens up a new window with the enlarged picture.

Hope this helps, not too good at explaining things!

No worries, sorry if i sounded a little patronising then!

I'll let you know, just going into friendlies. Solved one problem, offered Denilson to clubs for 30M over 24 months, Inter came in with that bid (Mr Gillett decided it was too good to turn down). Looking to get Sunny as a back-up now (only 19 and very promising).

Who's this Marvin guy you recommend? Is he the Dutch guy from Sparta? His stats don't look too good at the mo.

How about a slightly different approach in training Banega as a AMC? to get cover in behind him I would suggest an up and coming DM to bolster the back line up. I can recommend to you a young lad called Hedwiges Maduro, I have him in my Ajax game at the moment and he is very good, constantly rates or 7.5 each game, and MOTM in several key fixtures so far.

In terms of Silva, as an alternative try raiding Valencia for a young lad called Mata. his stts improve after the end of season two and you have another Silva straight away for not much money.
