not sure - mascherano is off to the olympics which doesn't leave any defensive midfielders...Lucas tends to roam

I'd hate to see Alonso go and I'm not sure why Rafa would wanna get rid of one of only two players that can spray a 40 yard pass across the field.

Has anyone heard anything about this Vincent Weijl we've signed from AZ or Nikola Saric that we've agreed a deal with Herfolge for?

I personally feel Alonso is a much better player than Masch.

But thats Benitez all over, and if he gets shot of super-sub peter crouch then that wouldnt surprise me either

i agree with harty, i do think we should keep alonso, and sell mascha and get barry!
Otherwise we need a good partner for torres maybe something like keane! :P

Mascherano is up thier with the best DM in the world.

Well...it depends. You don't see many defensive midfielders scoring goals from 40 yards (luton Town xD) 65 yards and the Newcastle Incident...Shay Given xD

That was actually Taylor that was in goal for that match.

Crouch - our best striker after torres (please, please dont leave)
Alonso/Barry - great passer, hes back to his best and hopefully he will stay. I like him better than Barry and with him passing and Masch stopping the opposition attacks theres no problems in the centre of midfield. Barry would be good though on the left side, though I dont know where Babel will fit into this
Degen/Dossena - never seen them play, and FM says theyre crap

hopefully Rafa proves FM wrong
Mystery Signing - not Villa hopefully...just dont know where he will fit into it. Silva and/or Schweinsteiger will be good though
The 3 Hungarian Trialists - If there's more Nemeths on the way, Im all for it

Reserves who can make the grade - I see Insua getting on the bench for quite a few games behind Aurelio and Dossena? Nemeth will make a few appearances too, especially if Crouch is sold. Hobbs is unlikely, probably gona be on loan again...we're just too strong in centre-back, and Plessis/Spearing are gonna get into the side while Masch and Lucas are at the Olympics

Ap, you're talking about how players would fit in, and based on what you've set does that mean you'd only play one up front?

Coz you said Mascherano and Alonso in the centre, so obviously Gerrard would tuck in behind Torres, then Barry on the left and Babel on the right?

Don't think itl work coz the whole reason you want Barry is to play with Gerrard, and so Gerrard can slot back into his favoured central role

What about Pennant? Rafa seemed to start liking him towards the end of the season...

Mascherano was fantastic last season, incredible work rate compared to Alonso.

Crouch can be amazing but all too often misses good chances - that said, worth keeping hold of.

Daniel Alves for right back (I know, another right back) but he would be just what we need.

Barry would be a good signing and a couple more English players wouldn't hurt.

I don't think Alves would go considering he's just moved to Barca, and saying that, I dont think he'd have chosen Liverpool anyway

haah th i just meant that after the success in the second half of the season last year (we only lost to united), that formation seems to be working very well
it brings out the best in gerrard and torres and gives babel, kuyt and pennant a chance to go wide or come inside. if barry does come then most probably he will spend half the time on the left and half the time with masch in the middle (depends if alonso leaves or not) with gerrard pushing up from there.
Pennant is the only truly wide player we have and he links up well with crouch but if we lose him, then i dont see the point in keeping pennant. torres plays much better when he feeds on through balls from gerrard, babel and kuyt
