The 30-year-old has yet to be capped by Spain and will qualify to play for England in a year's time having spent four years with the north London club. "They (Spain) have never, never called me," said Almunia. "If other people want me, I have to study my situation and take a decision because it is good for me - I will not close myself to anything." Almunia has been in impressive form having kept 11 clean sheets in 22 games this season, relegating Germany international Jens Lehmann to the substitutes' bench. But his performances have yet to convince Spain manager Luis Aragones, who has a plethora of world-class goalkeepers at his disposal, including Real Madrid's Iker Casillas, Valencia's Santiago Canizares and Liverpool's Pepe Reina. Almunia's admission could give new England manager Fabio Capello a further option to explore as he looks for a long-term solution to the goalkeeping dilemma. "I always say I have to wait to see what is happening at that moment, or which goalkeeper England has, or which goalkeeper Spain has, look at the situation and take a decision," said the Pamplona-born keeper. "It would be a big decision but I wouldn't care if I had two days to take it." Give your opinion on who you think should be england number one and your view on Almunia. My view: Hes obviously much better than all current england goalkeepers, remember David "Big Jessy" James, or Paul "Let in the ball" Robinson and lets not start on Scott Carson. Theyve all made mistakes when it comes to the big time, and as for club level none of them play for Arsenal, the team who currently sit top of the EPL, So he clearly deserves the number one spot. or? or? or what about.. who do you think Last edited by Axillo; 25-12-07 at 09:28 PM. Scott Carson should be third choice. Robinson and James should be axed. Almunia shouldn't be given a chance, because the whole point of an England team, is English players playing for it,not players who qualify through residency. Then, the national football team would be run as badly as the english cricket team if that was allowed to happen! | | | | | 02-01-08, 07:41 AM | #7 (permalink) | | Important First Team Player Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Adelaide Posts: 649 Thanks: 49 Thanked 72 Times in 72 Posts | I agree with majority in here, Robert Green should be given the chance and when Foster is fit again he will come back into the fold. | Cheers Spanish | | | 04-01-08, 09:39 AM | #8 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 2 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | Scott Carson is good talent! | | | | | 04-01-08, 09:59 AM | #9 (permalink) | | FMF Donator Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: In a house Posts: 642 Thanks: 14 Thanked 20 Times in 17 Posts | Chris kirkland getting loads of pratice this season with that wigan defence in front of him | | | | | 04-01-08, 07:13 PM | #10 (permalink) | | Scout For FMF's DB Update Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Mississauga, near Toronto Posts: 1,687 Thanks: 226 Thanked 238 Times in 198 Posts | i agree with neil, chris kirkland is th ebest prospect everyone keeps talking about robinson and carson not playing well and green isnt good enough or foster not playing much but kirkland has shown consistently how good he is | | | | 29-01-08, 11:59 AM | #11 (permalink) | | Important First Team Player Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Banda Aceh,Republik Indonesia Posts: 879 Thanks: 19 Thanked 45 Times in 39 Posts | yeah........... kirkland, green, foster good goalkeepr but not worldclass goalkeeper | | | | 12-02-08, 12:07 AM | #12 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Feb 2008 Posts: 1 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | Obviously choice for myself is rob green.and i fink fm08 agrees my scouts always tell me he would be available for about 24.5m and i rate him just as much in real life class keeper in my opinion | | | | | 12-02-08, 12:37 AM | #13 (permalink) | | Important First Team Player Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Basingstoke Posts: 772 Thanks: 82 Thanked 128 Times in 121 Posts | i think almunia shouldnt be english keepa.. the whole idea of england national side is for english players not a spanish keeper that cant get into his own national side. David James has been class so far this season he should be number 1 keepa and robert green as second choice.... Chris kirkland should be given a shot too. | | | | 12-02-08, 04:51 PM | #14 (permalink) | | The next Harry Redknapp Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Birmingham (Born an Bred in Salford tho :P) Posts: 685 Thanks: 64 Thanked 111 Times in 94 Posts | Totally agree with Leachy on this, Almunia bein GK for the England team would be embarrassin for the national game, we avent got bad keepers tbh, James has been amazin the last few seasons n the rise of Joe Hart @ City aswell should bode well for the future hopefully lol | Current Game :- Zenit St. Petersburg 07/08 RFPL Winner | | | 12-02-08, 06:29 PM | #15 (permalink) | | Co-founder of FMFormation's Graphical Challenges Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Near Glasgow Posts: 2,143 Thanks: 360 Thanked 250 Times in 138 Posts | Agree with Leachy too | R.I.P Tommy Burns - You'll Never Walk Alone | | | 13-02-08, 02:11 PM | #16 (permalink) | | Important First Team Player Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Banda Aceh,Republik Indonesia Posts: 879 Thanks: 19 Thanked 45 Times in 39 Posts | hmm i think hart will be an excelent goalkeeper, but not now.james/green good choice Last edited by mirjalovic; 13-02-08 at 02:13 PM. | | | | 14-02-08, 11:42 AM | #17 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 301 Thanks: 25 Thanked 33 Times in 19 Posts | I think Almunia is briefly good.... But, there are a lot of nice talents out there from England.... Joe Hart, Robert Green have been showed their talents in their clubs..... David James ==> fantastic!!!! So, why should England use Almunia who is from Spain?? My country, Indonesia, though it is a poor country in football never wants to take player from outside... Despite, many overseas players play in my country... Anyone know Christian Gonzalez, Zah Rahan, or Nomo Te Marco?? | | | | | 14-02-08, 06:52 PM | #18 (permalink) | | FMF Donator Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: Liverpool Posts: 71 Thanks: 11 Thanked 10 Times in 10 Posts | Ben Foster for me, although he needs to be playing regular premiership football to stand a chance, I dont know if hes on loan again from Utd but hes not gonna be England number 1 when hes 3rd choice at old trafford imo. Robert Green would be there for me, before Calamity and Robinson | | | | | 15-04-08, 05:15 PM | #19 (permalink) | | Our Pink Lady Join Date: Oct 2007 Posts: 17 Thanks: 0 Thanked 2 Times in 2 Posts | just get joe hart in the goal and no more goals will be scored on england :p | | | | 16-04-08, 09:53 AM | #20 (permalink) | | Backup To The First Team Join Date: Apr 2008 Posts: 218 Thanks: 33 Thanked 17 Times in 15 Posts | Ben Foster or even Robert Green. Not that I care about england but I think Almunia looks a bit shakey sometimes for top level. | | | | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is On | | | | All times are GMT.
