Who will be the Next England Manager ??

After Sven's exit it is believed that the Fa have placed down 3 English men capable of takin on the job. These being Arsenal manager Clive Merson, Martin O'Neil and Man City manager Micky Adams. The favourite being Clive Merson who has been linked to the England job in the past. However The Fa are also interested in foreign managers these being Guus Hiddink and Jose Maurinho, both unemployed.

" I'd rather manage Blackpool than the National side" says Hiddink

In the past weeks Guus Hiddink has been a man in the news. He was in talks with the FA and Hiddink told newspapers that mananging the English side would be a dream of his. However his dream soon turned into a nightmare as the Fa and him couldn't agree on a salary. Not to mention the various media coverage that has been bothering him in England. Guus has now left England and confirmed he is no longer interested in the England job. On his departure he said " I'd rather manager Blackpool than the national side, the Fa are hopeless at organising things"

i wouldn't mind him managing Blackpool either lol

I think this has the potential to be the best story on FMF, because of its simplicity and style of how the story is written.

Great work, keep it simple and keep it up

English Public has mixed feelings about Merson.

It has taken the FA more than a month to find what the english press have called " The Man", the next England Manager. Today the Fa finally appointed Clive Merson, the man who led Arsenal to 2 league titles, 1 fa cup and an appereance in the Champions League Final in 2005( losing to Real Madrid). Now we at the BBC ask the fans what they think about the new manager :

" I think he is a very good choice,he is passionate and did a great job at Arsenal,he will do well for England"

Paul Brenan,from London

" He is a good manager but he won't go far with England"

James Stelton from Wallsall

" He is not the manager England need for World Cup Glory,Guus Hiddink or Marcello Lippi would have been better. Merson was not even a good player for England,he cost us the World Cup in 1982. "

Jane Macratea, from Liverpool

Whatever the fans think, Merson's first match will could not be tougher despite being a friendly, against Belgium away, however it should be said that Merson had the opportunity to cancel this friendly but didn't. All shall be revealed on 2nd september and Merson has his first competitve game on the 6th September away to Romania.

Merson almost led Arsenal to Champions League glory in 2005

Merson has Plans

England's new manager arrived at Lancaster Gate today for his firts press conference. Here's wat he he had to say:

Q: Mr Merson, why do you think you should be England manager ?
A: I believe I have the experience to manage the national side. I am very passionate about the National side and I have big plans to take England to the top.

Q: What are these plans ?
A: For starters, I won't to change the way we as look at these major tournaments. Before the tournament all the media fuss is just too much. This in my opnion is wrong, during the tournaments England get in the news for all the wrong reasons. As long as I am England manager that will stop and England will get in the news for what they do on the pitch.

Q: Do you plan to make any changes to the current England squad ?
A: Yes,but I do not wish to discuss them just yet

Q; You once played for England as a player,do you think this gives you an advantage for the way the Fa works ?
A: Yes a small one

Q: How do you rate England's chances of success at Euro 2008 ?
A: I refuse to comment on that tournament, when not a single ball has been kicked yet. I will take the tournamnent game by game.

A changed England Squad

Clive Merson has today announced the England squad for the upcoming matches away to Belgium and Romania:

Chris Kirkland, Paul Robinson,John Terry,Rio Ferdinand,John Terry,Gareth Barry,Ashely Cole, Joey Barton, Wes Brown, Glen Johnson, Wayne Bridge, David Beckham (c), Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Shaun Wright Phillips, Aaron Lennon, David Bentley, Wayne Ronney, Michael Owen, Carlton Cole, Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent

The squad is very different to England's World Cup squad and fans have expressed some discontent.

Great Start For Merson:

Belgium 0 England 2

( Rooney 32, C. Cole 78)

Despite recent claims over Merson's squad selection England dominated Belgium to give Merson a win in his first game as England manager. On a warm night in Brussels England began well with Beckham hitting the post early on. There were also chances from Lampard and Cole. But in the 32nd minute Wayne Ronney found the net with a well placed shot. At half time Merson brought on Kirkland,Carlton Cole,Barton and Lennon. Chris Kirkland was on fine form saving a number of shots. In the 78th minute Carlton Cole scored his first ever England goal with a good finish after a superb pass from Defoe. England begin their Euro 2008 qualyfing duties on Wednesday away to Romania
