England began the road to Euro 2008 with an important away win over Romania. The romanians began the brighter side and would have taken the lead had it not been from some fantastic saves from goalkeeper Chris Kirkland. England also had chances with Michael Owen and Steven Gerrad missing some shots. In the second half England began the more confident side and they were rewarded when on the 56th minute captain David Beckham smashed home a 30 yard free kick. England continued to dominte but failed to find the net until the 90th minute when substitute Carlton Cole scored through a break away.

  Merson Happy with First Games
Following his first two England games, the boss Clive Merson said that he was happy after England managed to beat Belgium 2-0 in a friendly and Romania 2-0 in a Euro 2008 qualifier. Both matches were away. Merson told reporters " I'm very happy we managed to get good results in tough away places,all i hope now is that we play better in our upcoming home matches against Scotland and Faroe Islands ". When asked about the reaction to his squad Merson replied " I was expecting it,it happens to every England manager even the great Alf Ramsey".

 England Prepare for Battle of Britain
After the up's and downs of with their respective clubs England players now must focus on their next Euro 2008 qualifier at home to the auld enemy Scotland. England will be without John Terry and Steven Gerrad. Clive merson told the press " It is important we do our job against Scotland on Saturday and we then have an easier game against the Faroe Islands on Wednesday".
