The second signing for Bergkamp came in just 24 hours when Bergkamp signed Wigan leftback Leighton Baines for a fee of £7.5m after Chelsea and Spurs failed to capture the England U-21 leftback's signature and joining Arsenal, he was presented with the number 3 Jersey as the number was vacated by Ashley Cole.

26 July 2006:1000
After contacts were sorted out, Arsenal have agreed to sign youngerster Sherman Cardenas, 16, from Bucaramanga of Colombia and Arsenal will pay £750k for the youngster and he will join the gunners immediatly.

3 August 2006:1500

Arsenal who went down in the 16th min to a Christophe Berra goal and Baptista equalised at the 30th minute and scoring from the penatly spot at the 37th minute gave the gunners the lead, after Arsenal scoring at the 64th minute, Hearts will hope their away goal will help them in the return leg 2 weeks later.

It was the kick-off of the English Premire League as all matches were broadcasted live, the match between Arsenal and Liverpool received the greatest response. Dennis Bergkamp's first match at the EPL was dealt a blow from the start as Leighton Baines suffered a twisted knee while playing for the England U-21s a few days back so William Gallas will start at Left back while it means Curtis Davies will be handed a league debut in the expense of Baines

Arsenal line-up:
Jens Lehmann, Emmanuel Eboue, William Gallas (Gareth Bale,60), Kolo Toure, Curtis Davies, Aleskendr Hleb (Fredrik Ljungberg,60), Tomas Rosicky, Gilberto Silva, Francesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie (Julio Baptista), Thierry Henry

Arsenal welcomed Liverpool to the opening of the Emirates in the League and it only took 17 minutes before Gilberto Silva opened the scoring for the gunners and they were off to a flying start and at the 37th minute, Arsenal scored again this time, from Robin Van Persie, who struck a wonderful curling shot into the top coner, half time and Arsenal lead the reds.

Immediatly after the restart, Momo Sissoko struck a ranged effort that beat Lehmann soundly to put Liverpool back into the game but a quick double fire from Gilberto and Emmanual Eboue, who got his first goal for the club sent Arsenal fans wild, even when John Arne Riise scored at the last few minutes of the game, Arsenal ran out 4-2 winners at the Emirates.

23rd August 2006:1945

Dennis Bergkamp has commented that the pressure was on Hearts to get a result just before their match where Arsenal have a 3-1 advantage.

Arsenal line-up:
Manuel Almunia, Emmanuel Eboue, Gareth Bale, William Gallas, Curtis Davies, Fredrik Ljungberg (Francesc Fabregas,64), Tomas Rosicky, Alexandre Song (Thierry Henry,64), Gilberto Silva, Julio Baptista, Emmanuel Adebayor
(Aleskendr Hleb,45)

Arsenal showed their composure in front of goal was lacking in this match against Hearts when they created 13 chances and 7 was on target but failing to net even a goal. They came closest when Aleskendr Hleb took the ball off Takis Fyssas's feet but only for Craig Gordon to parry it, so the Gunners make it into the group stages of the Champions League while Hearts have to settle for a UEFA cup spot.

Days after the win against Hearts, the champions league draw for the group stages were drawn and Dennis Bergkamp attended the ceremony as calm and composed as the other managers and they were drawn into Group F.

Group F:
Arsenal FC
Bayern Muchen
CSKA Moscow
Shakhtar Donetsk

you'll be suprised on who I managed to beat...

26th August 2006:1500

Leighton Baines still shaking off the knock he picked up and will miss the game, instead Dennis Bergkamp decided to stick to the formation that beat Liverpool last week.

Arsenal Line-up:
Jens Lehmann, Emmanuel Eboue, William Gallas, Kolo Toure, Curtis Davies, Aleskendr Hleb, Tomas Rosicky, Gilberto Silva, Francesc Fabregas (Alexandre Song,62), Robin Van Persie (Julio Baptista,62), Thierry Henry

Although the first half was a bore draw, Dennis Bergkamp can only rue the chances his team received only to be foiled by Jan Lastuvka, only in the second half in the 61st minute where the Arsenal barrarge started when Thierry Henry put the gunners in front with a wonderful run and striking the ball with his left foot, followed by a 67th minute strike when he struck the ball with a curling free kick and Thierry Henry was given the chance for a hat trick when Baptista was brought down in the box at the 80th minute but Henry failed to score from the spot but placing a weak shot to the left. Henry placed the lost opportunity behind him and made a dynamic run to connect with Emmanuel Eboue's cross to head the ball in at the 90th minute to give him his hat trick and showing why he is one of the best strikers in the world.

After the 3-0 win at Craven Cottage, Dennis Bergkamp could only praise his former strike partner and said he could not see how it is possible that Henry is not the best striker in the world.

30th August 2006:1930

Dennis Bergkamp at Arsenal were high-flying, next up they have a game against Portsmouth in the mid-week and he could only field the same team he has been using as Leighton Baines is still out due to injury.

Arsenal Line-up:
Jens Lehmann, Emmanuel Eboue, William Gallas, Kolo Toure, Curtis Davies, Aleskendr Hleb (Fredrik Ljungberg,60), Tomas Rosicky, Gilberto Silva(Alexandre Song,41), Francesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie (Julio Baptista,60), Thierry Henry

Arsenal were sent into a flying start when Dutchman Robin Van Persie scored at the 17th minute with a wonderfully worked goal but Darius Vassel scored when heading for an air bound cross from Pedro Mendes. Although a mistimed jumped from Gilberto put him out of the whole match and has to be subed for Alex Song, who took his holding role.

The match could not be turned around for any team as the gunners could only rue their missed chances, with the number of shots they have, you would have felt that they would have done enough for a win.

After the match, Bergkamp was asked to comment about Gilberto's injury and how serious was it.

Well, Gilberto has got his shoulder dislocated, it is quite serious and he would be out for at least 2 months, but I feel that this is the perfect time to allow Alex Song to take his place

13 September 2006:1945

The champions league season kicked off for Dennis Bergkamp where he has to play Shakhtar Donetsk, although Shakhtar has proved to be a worthy challenge for Dennis Bergkamp but Bergkamp is so focused that he did not comment before the match.

Arsenal Line-up:
Jens Lehmann, Emmanuel Eboue, William Gallas, Kolo Toure, Curtis Davies, Aleskendr Hleb (Denilson,62), Fredrik Ljungberg, Alexendre Song (Julio Baptista,62, Francesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie, Thierry Henry

Their chances were rued when Arsenal went down during the 33rd minuted when Olexiy Gai headed the ball past Lehmann. Arsenal could only hit back with a 41st minute strike when Robin Van Persie struck a free kick which so happened to be the last goal of the night and Arsenal could not find a way past the Shakhtar Donetsk keeper but Cesc Fabregas got the man of the match award with his pint point passing but Arsenal also saw Bayern draw with CSKA Moscow.
