The news follows after Le Guen triumphantly won the UEFA Cup the year before against Werder Bremen in an epic final at Hampden. PLG is expected to release his own statement later in the week. Rangers chairman David Murray has released this statement: "In the best intrests of Rangers Football Club, we have decided that Paul Le Guen will no longer be the manager as we look to install a more Scottish flavour to the club". The bookies have made Scotland Manager Walter Smith the favourite at 3/1 with George Burley and Billy Davies at 7/1. | | | | | 17-12-06, 06:34 PM | #2 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Dec 2006 Posts: 11 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | Gers appoint Ex-Scotland Star Rangers today appointed Ex-Scotland International Ross Dunbar to be their new manager replacing Frenchman Paul Le Guen. Dunbar picked up 72 caps for Scotland and famously scored the winning goal against England in their 4-3 mauling at Wembley. Rangers Chairman David Murray has admitted that he is delighted to have secured Dunbar's signature and is looking forward to working with the life-long Rangers fan. Dunbar has declared himself thrilled to be working alongside his heroes and is looking to install some fight into his team. The new Rangers manager has confirmed that Barry Ferguson will continue his role as captain with Croatian striker Dado Prso the vice-captain. Rangers travel to Vienna to take on Rapid Wien tonight but Ross Dunbar will not take charge of the team as he is currently looking for an assistant manager to replace Yves Colleu. | | | | | 17-12-06, 07:26 PM | #3 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Dec 2006 Posts: 11 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | Friday 30th June 2006 Rapid Wien 2-1 Rangers - (Boyd 34) Rangers Line Up: 21. Kris Boyd (Sebo 45) Rapid Wien tonight proved too strong for the light blues as Rangers threw away a lead in the Gerhard-Hannappi Stadion. Kris Boyd opened the scoring after 34mins after a slick passing move involving Charlie Adam and Nacho Novo which lead to Boyd finishing off the move. The Austrians equalised after 38mins when an inswinging corner from Martin Hiden found the head of captain Markus Steiner and he powered home. Rangers went in at half-time and stand-in manager for the evening Yves Colleu made 11 changes bringing on a totally different team for the second half. Rapid got the winner after 72mins when a poor backpass from Steven Lennon allowed Mario Hishkel the time and space to slide past the on-rushing Allan McGregor. In the end it was a poor result for Rangers but they won't mind as it was a meaningless friendly. | | | | | 17-12-06, 08:08 PM | #4 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Dec 2006 Posts: 11 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | Sunday 2nd July 2006 Gers trio sign new deals Rangers trio Steven Smith, Chris Burke and Allan McGregor have all signed new deals at Ibrox. Allan McGregor 20. Alan Hutton (Lowing 45) 3. Charlie Mulgrew 18. Ian Murray (Hemdani 45) 5. Kirk Broadfoot 6. Barry Ferguson (C) 8. Jeremy Clement (Buffel 45) 14. Eduardo (Silva 45) 10. Nacho Novo (Naismith 45) 15. Kris Boyd (Adam 45) 23. Filip Sebo Rangers comfortably won their final pre-season friendly before the new SPL season begins with a 2-0 victory over Swedish Outfit AIK. Rangers took the lead after 24mins when Barry Ferguson delightfully slipped the ball through to Eduardo and he rounded off by slotting home a cool, composed finish. It took Rangers a long time to see off AIK but should have been 2 up inside 30mins when a Kirk Broadfoot header was dramatically saved by the AIK goalkeeper after a vicious cross from Jeremy Clement. Finally for Rangers the 2nd goal came and it was after 88mins and what a cracker it was, Great play by Naismith as he strolled down the centre of the field and a terrific shot from around 30 yards sailed into the top corner with the Goalkeeper helpless. In the end it was a deserved win for Rangers as they prepare for their opening League match in a tricky tie away to Hibs at Easter Road. Sunday 23rd July 2006 Rangers For the Title?? Rangers manager Ross Dunbar was earlier interviewed by David Tanner, here is what he had to say: DT: Do you think you can win the league in your first season? RD: Of Course, we have a squad full of quality players but our players must stay focused and give their best in every game. DT: Who has been the most significant signing since your arrival? RD: There has been so many but i would have to say Eduardo because he was the player we spent most on. DT: Are you looking forward to working at Murray Park? RD: Definetly, we are very lucky here at Rangers as we have one of the best training facilities in Europe. DT: What has the more experienced players been saying to you about the Old Firm Derby? RD: Nothing much but i know what it means to the club, fans, myself it's a big thing and we need to be successful in these games. DT: That's it here from Murray Park as Rangers prepare for their crunch fixture at Hibs next week so it's back to you in the studio. Auxerre sign Rodriguez Auxerre have signed Rangers defender Julien Rodriguez for a fee of £750,000. The frenchman has been frozen out of the Rangers side since the arrival of many new faces in the summer. Rodriguez played for Monaco and reached the Champions League Final in 2004 and was rewarded with a move to Rangers a few months later for £1,200,000. Rangers have also confirmed that striker Nacho Novo will be heading back to Spain as Real Zaragoza are looking to sign the explosive striker for £1,000,000. Sunday 30th July 2006 Bank Of Scotland Scottish Premier League Easter Road, Edinburgh Hibernian 2-2 Rangers (Ferguson 3, Eduardo 14pen) Rangers Line Up: 22. Allan McGregor 3. Charlie Mulgrew 20. Alan Hutton 19. Karl Svensson 5. Kirk Broadfoot 7. Brahim Hemdani 25. Charlie Adam (Murray 62) 6. Barry Ferguson (C) 11. Luka Modric 14. Eduardo (Silva 45) 15. Kris Boyd (Sebo 77) Rangers will count themselves very unlucky tonight after they through away a 2 goal lead to Hibs at Easter Road. The Rangers fans knew this wasn't going to be an easy game but they got off to a great start when Skipper Barry Ferguson headed home a corner from Eduardo after just 3mins. Rangers got their second after 14mins when Kris Boyd was fouled by Shelton Martis and it was new signing Eduardo who clinically side-footed the ball into the bottom right corner. Hibs came back into the game around the half hour mark and it took them until 43mins to find a break through and it came as Steven Fletcher drilled the ball low and hard from the edge of the penalty area with stand-in keeper Allan McGregor beaten. The second half didn't live up to the first with both sides struggling to hit the same form as they did in the first. The equalising goal came after 83mins when Morrocan striker Abdessalem Benjelloun was sent through on goal by Scott Brown and the forward didn't disappoint as he finished off excellently. Kris Boyd (Eastwood 65) Rangers manager Ross Dunbar described his side's performance as 'outstanding' as his side came back from a poor result at Hibs to comfortably defeat Aberdeen 2-0 at Ibrox. The first half was a disappointment with very few chances for either side but at half-time the introduction of Thomas Buffel changed the game. Eight Minutes into the second half and Rangers took the lead when a sublime chip from Buffel allowed Eduardo to lash home a stunning volley from the edge of the box. The biggest cheer of the day came after 65mins when new signing Freddy Eastwood came on as a sub for Kris Boyd and he recieved a standing ovation from the Rangers supporters. Rangers killed off Aberdeen, 5mins later when Luka Modric was fouled by Russell Anderson and the referee pointed to the spot. Eduardo stepped up, and he cooly drived the ball past Jaime Langfield in the Aberdeen goal. The man of the match in this game was young English keeper Lee Robinson who made his senior debut today after Lionel Letizi was ruled out with a Broken Collarbone and Allan McGregor was out with the flu and should be back next Sunday at Dunfermline although Robinson could start the game after a convincing clean sheet on his debut. Rangers have also secured the signature of Ipswich Keeper Shane Supple for £250,000. Supple is expected to become Dunbar's new No.1 very soon. Kris Boyd (Aghahowa 80) Dunfermline provided no shocks today as Rangers steamrolled the Pars at East End Park. Rangers took the lead after 11mins when a Charlie Adam free-kick was headed home by Skipper Barry Ferguson for his 2nd goal of the campaign. Eduardo got Rangers' second 5mins later when he stole an inch of space from Phil Maguire to rifle home past Dorus De Vries. Rangers finished the game as a contest after 37mins when another inch-perfect corner from Charlie Adam was headed home by Winger Chris Burke on his first game back from injury and you could see what it meant to him by his celebration. Rangers got the fourth goal 19mins from time when Brahim Hemdani nipped infront of Gary Mason to head home his first Rangers goal. The Gers fans finally got the glimpse of Nigerian Striker Julius Aghahowa when he replaced Kris Boyd with 10mins to go but failed to live up to his expectations. Kris Boyd (Aghahowa 45) Rangers striker Freddy Eastwood today managed to net his first Gers goal as Ross Dunbar's men fought hard for a 3-1 victory. Eastwood got his goal after 63mins when a long ball upfield by Alan Hutton was well won and headed over the Motherwell Keeper by the former Southend Striker. Rangers got the second 8mins later when a terrific left-foot strike from Skipper Barry Ferguson flew into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area after a short corner from Silva. Motherwell pulled a goal back immediatley after the Rangers goal when a darting run and cross from Calum Elliot was headed home by Jim Paterson. The Gers rapped up the points when Ferguson got his second after good play by Luka Modric on the wing producing a great cut-back by the Croatian and the on-rushing Skipper fired home. Rangers opened the scoring here at the Falkirk Stadium when Kirk Broadfoot headed home his first Rangers goal from a Silva corner. Stand-in Skipper Brahim Hemdani set up the second with an inch-perfect pass through to Filip Sebo and the Slovakian fired home past Scott Higgins. It took the Gers a long time to wrap up the game but they created a few other good openings but a lack of composure infront of goal denied Rangers a more the 2-0 half-time lead. Substitute Freddy Eastwood got the third after 85mins when a poor backpass from Darren Barr allowed Freddy Eastwood in and he easily flicked the ball past the Falkirk No.1. Rangers will now take a break for the International Call-Ups and Ross Dunbar will then prepare for his first Old Firm Derby at Ibrox on the 9th September with possibly some new faces including Kevin Thomson, Scott Brown, Steven Fletcher, Steven Whittaker all from SPL side Hibs. Kris Boyd (Eastwood 62) Rangers manager Ross Dunbar today celebrated his first Old Firm Derby win over Celtic. The Gers triumphed 1-0 in the opening derby of the season and what a cracker it was!!. It was a 'typical' Old Firm game described by Ross Dunbar with many challenges, a fast and furious pace and a superb goal. Rangers went into the Old Firm Showdown with Seven Old Firm debutants including Yohann Pele, Steven Whittaker, Kirk Broadfoot, Petter Hansson, Jeremy Clement, Luka Modric and Eduardo. Celtic, however had a more solid look about them with the only Derby Debutants in Gordon Strachan's First Eleven were Gary Caldwell, Thomas Gravesen and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. The game kick off at a ferocious tempo with Jeremy Clement being booked after just 106secs. Rangers dominated for most of the game and should have been infront after 31mins when an imaginative run by Thomas Buffel was brought to a standstill by Gravesen. Barry Ferguson stepped up and his free-kick rattled the woodwork. Rangers made a triple change after 62mins and it undoubtedly changed the match when Dado Prso, Chris Burke and Freddy Eastwood replaced the weak performances from Eduardo, Thomas Buffel and Kris Boyd. The change paid off after 73mins when a nice, flowing passing move from Rangers involving Charlie Mulgrew, Jeremy Clement and Luka Modric was switched across to Freddy Eastwood who fired the ball in low and hard, a great touch by Ferguson to spin round McManus and he fired the ball past Artur Boruc to make it 1-0. The stadium erupted. This win gives Rangers a bit of breathing space over Killie and Celtic. | | | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | | All times are GMT.
