Tursk got his years of fame being the manager of a legendary FC Universitatea Cluj side in Romania and guiding them to three consecutive Champions League finals. Happy Torino fans around the hotel He took over at the Romanian outfit at 20-years old, but now after nearly fifteen years out of football as he won the Champions League he has opted to return. He was the first option after Alberto Zaccheroni never got to Turin despite agreeing to sign the contract as he passed out while doing some gardening outside at his home. Tursk was given a try-out year by his own requests, as Torino originally offered a three year contract to the Estonian who also has a Romanian passport. Reports from Turin have said that Torino fans are really happy with the appointment, as Tursk is remembered for his energetic style by the side of the pitch and temperamental Estonian is known for his never say die attitude. And during the press conference he gave today, he stated, "I have my sincere plans to actually make an Il Grande Torino version II, but without the horrific end to the story. Though for my first priority is to beat Juventus. It's always my dream as an Inter fan. I remember beating them back in Romanian days, but this is a whole new chance." "I have my upmost respect for Granata fans. They are great, they have gotten so much undeserved suffer over the times, but this has to change. It's sad that I have to wait two years to beat Juventus, but let's fill that time differently. I plan to have passionate, joyful and exciting time here and I want to find a bond with the great dudes at the stands during my reign. I think they share my vision and view," he answered to the questions about Torino fans. Tursk will have his first day at the training ground tomorrow and it's unknown is he going to bring in any players. Just after day of appointment of manager Tanel Tursk, Torino FC football club has annoucned that Christian Abbiati has been sent back to Milan as the loan got terminated. Italian newspaper Corriere della Sport reported Tursk's words, "I talked with Abbiati and I managed to agree with him in a nice way. He was sent back to Milan because I wanted to make sure there aren't any links with Juventus in this club." The news come shocking after it was believed Abbiati will be wearing no. 1 gloves in the Turin outfit. The veteran goalkeeper was shocked too, though to read Tursk's words as he was very angry with hearing that he has been sent back to Milan to be their second goalie and they didn't come to any agreement. "A link with Juventus" "I just found a note in my mail box, saying to go back to Milan. I was shocked, I even called Urbano Cairo and he said it's true. I think they are allowing the manager too much," said Abbiati. The Italian newspaper didn't have any clear information about possible new players to join Il Granata as a goalkeeper to replace him, but it's reported that Tursk helds Argentine Federico Vilar, Hellas Verona no. 1 Gianluca Pegolo and young brazilian protegee Andrea Zuba in high regard. _____________________________________________ Eurosport - Marvin Redhead - 15th of July 2006 17:34 | | | | | 06-12-06, 09:00 PM | #7 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tursk reveals some plans - Wednesday 19 July, 2006 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Torino manager Tanel Tursk announced today at the meeting with the local fans what he plans to do this summer and whole season. The hottest rumour around is about Christian Abbiati's departure and who is going to replace him. "We're reaching the final details in the deal of Brazilan hotshot Andre Zuba, who has a Italian passport," answered Tursk to the questions about the new guy between the post. "I was hoping to get Gianluca Pegolo from Hellas Verona, but his price tag was too big for us so we had to cut the deal off." Zuba is a 20-year old goalkeeper from Brazilian club Palmeiras, but it's going to be seen if he actually is good enough to wear the gloves in Italy as otherwise Torino may be in trouble. "We've also looked at couple of other positions, most notable striker and central defender, but we may not get an extra striker eventhough it may be necesarry," said Tursk about other transfer possiblities. Lately there is rumour that to the center-back position Tursk is looking for Giulio Falcone, an ex-Torino player, from Sampdoria, but he totally rejected that rumour and giving the real player he wants. "Those rumours are false totally. I like young Raffaele Schiavi from Lecce and I do my all to get him here, he has a great ability to become a great defender in future," he suprised. It's Schiavi for Toro? 20-year old Lecce defender is highly rated around Italy and according to Tursk the deal is almost done and all he is waiting for is for the man himself to get into Torino and put the pen on paper. "He is a classical Italian center-back. Just like Cannavaro, Nesta and Materazzi he is great in the air, poses nice amount of pace, has godly positioning and oozes of determination and bravery," Tursk praised the young center-back. Then Tursk talked about the plans for this season and he is wishing for a Top 10 finish. "I hope we will end up in the first half of the table as it's Torino's first season in Serie A over some years. There is a great chance of snatching a place in Europe, but we have to see how strong we are once the season starts. " "I've been with the team for few days in the pre-season, except from their determination I don't really get much information about the skills." Tursk took over Il Granata less than a week ago. | | | | | 07-12-06, 05:00 PM | #8 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | Turin - Torino FC announced today that they have succesfully signed Raffaele Schiavi as the deal with the defender was clinced in Torino today. 20-year old Raffaele Schiavi is praised for his aerial strenght and is one of the future talents for Italy. Talented center-back was put together with Torino after their new manager Tanel Tursk named him as an option in the meeting with the fans just yesterday. Schiavi is relishing the prospect in getting his feet down in Serie A after making just one performance last season before getting loaned out to Brescia in Serie B. Schiavi, who started his career in Salernitana, another Il Granata, said to Sky Sports Italia during the interview that he has plans to make it into the first team here. "I know that manager Tanel Tursk rates me high so that gives me a nice chance. I think I've developed vastly over the past year and I'm going to feel proud to be in the same side with players like Simone Barone, Stefano Fiore and Giuseppe Pancaro." Corriere della Sera managed to get words from Tanel Tursk after the last training of the day in the training center. "It's great that we sealed the deal without no bigger complications. He is a great talent, as I've said before, and I think he can in few years time become one important member of Italy national team back-line," told the Estonian. Schiavi welcomed the new teammates in the dressing room today and he'll join the trainings tomorrow. 20 July 2006 | | | | | 07-12-06, 06:19 PM | #9 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | | | | | | 08-12-06, 04:26 PM | #10 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | | | | | | 09-12-06, 03:56 PM | #11 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | Manager's Corner! Torcida Granata today presents you a special corner as our new manager Tanel Tursk has promised to write a review every month and after important events for the club. Hello, Toro fans! This is my first entry here. We've finished most of our pre-season, now it's final weeks of preperation. I've searched around here and there around the Torino forums, I've seen multiple reactions to what I've done, who I am and everything. Today, in the first entry, I'm going to talk about my tactics. Tactics aren't just drawn on paper, though mostly the are. There are transfer tactics, motivation tactics etc and ofcourse the tactics that most of you are arguing about aka the one's that need to be drew on paper. There have been many doubts about mine and Cairo's transfer market tactics, but we had already gotten some great players like Simone Barone into the team so I was given a chance to get some players I want myself too. I'm not going to talk about Christian Abbiati, but his replacements have been creating quite a widespread reaction. It seems like no-one really likes Andre Zuba who is a very nice goalkeeper and you should even come see him in the training and no-one seems to trust Cristiano Lupatelli after his troubles over last seasons. Well, they will become very important for us I can tell you, both of them and Taibi will make sure our backline will be kept safe, Lupatelli and Taibi who are two well experienced players can tutor Zuba and sharing their lives of big teams to the others and they know what it takes to play in big team, eventhough Taibi's stint in England for example was disappointment. I don't know who I will play yet, but I believe this will be a healthy fight between them and probably I may start Zuba in the first cup tie, but I need to decide on the cup issue as I don't know do I want to get a second possibility for an European ticket or not. Roberto Cuevas, the striker, isn't going to be a first choice, he knows that himself. He is an emergency back-up at the moment, but he is very happy with that role and he gets along with the players very well. I don't think I need to talk about Schiavi, who will be our leading center-back in future though. I and Cairo have decided not to put any money into transfers at the moment and if everything goes good we won't too anything in January too though as we don't have the possibilty to throw the money around. But oh well, let's go down to the "tactics". Our options in the squad fit the best for a 3-5-2 formation as we've got a lot of midfielders and center-backs so it's the best way to play the best players. For me keeping the opponent score at 0 is very important, but that doesen't mean that with players like Alessandro Rosina, Elvis Abbruscato, Nikola Lazetic and so on, we're going to play defensive. We obviously need the entertainment also. I think I'm going to have some sleepless night thinking of the players that should play the next day, because it's always the toughest decision for a manager from what I've learned from my career. There are some players that though after seeing them in the pre-season and past are rather untouchable status at the moment. They are Simone Barone, Alessandro Rosina, Elvis Abbruscato and Raffaele Schiavi at the moment, but this list can grow, though also decrease which I make sure won't happen. Anyway I wish you fans all good for the upcoming season and hopefully my next entry will be soon, most probably after the September matches which I take together. Toro for Scudetto! There was no injuries in the pre-season and Tursk filled up his promise by handing a debut to the young Brazilian goalkeeper Andre Zuba in the match. The game started off with quick Torino attack in the 6th minute as Elvis Abbruscato dribbled past a stranded goalkeeper and a defender to net in a Roberto Stellone pass as he had the proud chance to become the first goalscorer of Torino this year. Few minutes later youngster Zuba confirmed his talents by making a fantastic save on Ivrea striker, pushing the ball over the goal and quickly after Il Granata got under the other goal. Roberto Stellone first pulled out a great save from Ivrea goalkeeper, but the ball fell to Stefano Fiore outside of area who then passed the ball to Simone Barone who was free in the box and he sent the ball into the low far corner to make it 2-0 with a debut goal. Five minutes later Abbruscato hit the cross-bar as it was lively start to the game as waited from Torino, but after the game had calmed down at the middle of the half Toro got a painful lesson. The ball was staying around the Torino area for a long time until it fell to Mirko Maresca who was like fourty meters from goal. Maresca took few running steps and then fired a fantastic curling effort into the top corner despite Zuba almost getting his fingertips there. Ivrea scores with fantastic effort Torino was quick to react, but Abbruscato's effort flew over the cross par as he was left alone with the goalkeeper. He made up for this soon enough though and just minute later after the incident he headed in a Nikola Lazetic cross as he was left unmarked ten meters from the goal. Il Granata enjoyed couple of more chances at the end of the half, but efforts from Stellone, Alessandro Rosina and Diego De Ascentis flew over the bar. For the second half Tursk introduced Gianluca Comotto and Cedric Konan, but again Torino had to grab their heads after Raffaele Schiav's and Konan's shot were both followed by fantastic saves from opponent goalkeeper. Though both of the guys were part of the fourth Toro goal. Raffaele Schiavi sent a fourty meter free-kick to Konan who headed it in under the bar, eventhough goalkeeper should've saved this one. The Ivorian striker was the maker of the next goal for Torino though, he perfectly timed his run to stay onside and then as he got the ball passed it to Abbruscato who grabed a hattrick by sending it in from three yards without any kind of disturbance. The shining Abbruscato earned a foul in the 66th minute from 25 meters and fans favourite Alessandro Rosina made a brilliant free-kick, getting help from the goalpost to get the ball straight in from such long range. Alessandro Rosina scores a free-kick There was no stoping for Abbruscato yet, the former Arezzo man grabed his fourth of the evening by brilliantly avoiding offside after a long range pass from Marco Di Loreto as he fooled the goalkeeper again to score the final goal of the night. Four for Abbruscato! In the next round Torino will meet their Serie A mates Catania in a week time. Torino: 13-Andre Zuba; 14-Ivan Franceschini, 16-Raffaele Schiavi, 25-Marco Di Loreto; 15-Diego De Ascentis; 7-Stefano Fiore (45. 22-Gianluca Comotto), 8-Simone Barone , 17-Nikola Lazetic; 10-Alessandro Rosina ; 19-Elvis Abbruscato , 11-Roberto Stellone (45. 24-Cedric Konan ) | | | | | 10-12-06, 06:47 PM | #15 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | Torino - Catania 23rd of August 2006 Stadio Olimpico, Turin Coppa Italia 2006/2007 - 2nd Qualifying Round 19' Elvis Abbruscato - 87' Ellery Cairo Elvis Abbruscato scored a goal and wore goalkeeper gloves during Torino's 1:0 cup win in a match where both Torino and Catania ended up with just ten players. Toro had no players missing from the ranks as they were preparing to see how good they are againist a fellow Serie A side as Catania also opted to start with best XI. Though there was one change in Torino side as Cedric Konan started the match this time. Andre Zuba, Gianluca Comotto, Iacopo Balestri, Raffaele Schiavi & Massimo Taibi got new numbers for themselves. The game started off fast with Catania having two dangerous attacks in the first ten minutes, but the more dangerous one, Giorgio Corona header in the first minute already was saved fantasticaly by young Andre Zuba, who is continuing to impress the fans. Torino soon started to find their way into the game aswell and it didn't take long before the attack ended up succesful. Nikola Lazetic sent his corner kick into the near post, where Elvis Abbruscato scored his fifth goal in the Coppa Italia already by heading it in. Abbruscato left unmarked for a goal And just minutes after Abbruscato was in role of a provider, but Cedric Konan header flew over the bar from the penalty point. Il Granata got more relief when Catania's Jose Manuel Vargas had to go off with an injury, but soon after they had to do a one substitution themselves. Stefano Fiore injuried himself fighting in the box as during the situation Diego De Ascentis curling shot was brilliantly saved by Torino's summer transfer target Federico Vilar. Gianluca Comotto came in to replace the Italian international. Half ended without not much chances, but Torino manager Tanel Tursk bringed in Iacopo Balestri at half-time to replace Nikola Lazetic. Olimpico was rather packed up for the occasion, but there was more bad news for the manager when Gabriele Cioffi had to make his first performance of the season due to injury of experienced center-back Ivan Franceschini. Cioffi marking error soon after almost resulted into the goal as in 63rd minute he left Gionatha Spinesi unmarked in box after making two brilliant tackles. Luck was on his and Torino's side though and Spinesi blasted the ball over. Torino managed to keep the ball for most periods of the half, but it went dramatic when another injury occured. With three subs done Torino's cup run was in danger as Andre Zuba injuried his hips and it was goalscorer Abbruscato who was man enough to take the goalkeeper gloves. Torino managed to hold the backline tight and Catania couldn't find a way to threaten the stiker-goalkeeper and it went much easier when Ellery Cairo got sent off for a second yellow card so it was 10-10. It ended 1:0 and Torino will meet another Serie A club Atalanta in the final qualifying round. Fan-favourite Rosina won't be able to play the Atalanta match. They actually had to play striker as a goalkeeper due to the substitutions running out and goalkeeper Andre Zuba getting carried off with a hip injury againist the Sicialian side. Goalkeeper Zuba got the toughest hit and the Brazilian youngster has to sit out for three months maximum. Other players who've gotten injuried have to spend out a little less time and will be back for Serie A opener against Empoli. Alessandro Rosina though may be a doubt after being announced injuried for around two weeks. Defender Ivan Franceschini and Italian international Stefano Fiore will spend around one and half week on the sidelines. Though there is a Atalanta in few days time for Il Granata which they plan to continue a fine cup run. "It's a tough hit for us, but we've got some nice cover for most of the players so I don't see too much problems," told Torino manager Tanel Tursk, "The only problem may occure with Rosina's position, but I think I can put Konan play there." "In long run I'm a little sad about Zuba's injury though as he was really proving a point at the moment, but Lupatelli and Taibi are both fantastic goalkeepers too," he finished. | | | | | 13-12-06, 10:58 AM | #17 (permalink) | | FMFs very own ;) Join Date: May 2006 Posts: 2,195 Thanks: 39 Thanked 130 Times in 111 Posts | another great story im waiting for the next bit KUTGW | thanks to James M for the sig, cheers buddy :D EFC Diddy FMF Unittttt :P | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to evertonfan For This Useful Post: | | 14-12-06, 08:26 PM | #18 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | Torino - Atalanta 26th of August 2006 Stadio Olimpico, Turin Coppa Italia 2006/2007 - 3rd Qualifying Round 90+3' Marco Di Loreto A dramatic late winner clinched Torino their third win in the Coppa Italia as Marco Di Loreto headed Torino to the next round in the injury time! There was small injury crises for Torino with Alessandro Rosina, Andre Zuba, Ivan Franceschini and Stefano Fiore out of action. Cristiano Lupatelli and defender Matteo Melara made their first performances of the season thanks to that. The match started off slow as Claudio Rivalta got yellow carded for an ugly two-footed challenge on Abbruscato, but no chances game until the middle of the half. Nicola Ventola's header in the 31st minute though wasn't really threatening former Fiorentina goalkeeper Lupatelli as it was soft and in the end flew few meters wide of the goal aswell. Though Nerazzurri was threatening with quick fast attacks and Brazilian Ferreira Pinto went really close to net againist Toro, as he beat defender Marco Di Loreto for a header from dozen meters flew just wide, but Lupatelli would've been helpless in case it would've been on target. Ferreira Pinto goes close Though Torino woke up after than and soon got a chance of their own, but a free-kick from Di Loreto flew into sidenet and the boring half had ended goalless. Despite attacking players Cedric Konan and Roberto Stellone having really disappointing nights Tursk opted for no changes at half-time, but twenty minutes into the half he did bring in new players as the 25 000 spectators around Olimpico really had a reason to yawn. Veteran Fabio Gallo steped in for Cedric Konan and Iacopo Balestri got another substitution performance by replacing slightly knocked Nikola Lazetic in the left wing. Tissone's long range effort didn't trouble Torino and soon after only a brilliant save from Alex Calderoni prevented Il Granata to take the lead as Roberto Stellone broke free of his marker in the box, but his shot wasn't top class leaving a chance for goalkeeper to save it. Torino was pressing hard for the final fifteen minutes or so, but Elvis Abbruscato effort in the injury time flew miles over the bar. Toro though got a final chance to win the game as Iacopo Balestri was stoped down the left wing with a foul and Diego De Ascentis steped up to make the cross which found defender Di Loreto who's absolutely brilliant header flew into the top corner of the net! Fantastic Di Loreto header secures victory! The assister De Ascentis was voted Sky Italia's man of the match and Torino got another Coppa Italia victory as they've now won two Serie A opponents with great displays and the season ahead with Estonian tactician Tanel Tursk looks promising. Torino: 28-Cristiano Lupatelli; 79-Matteo Melara, 2-Raffaele Schiavi, 25-Marco Di Loreto ; 15-Diego De Ascentis; 3-Gianluca Comotto, 8-Simone Barone, 17-Nikola Lazetic (66' 22-Iacopo Balestri); 24-Cedric Konan (66' 5-Fabio Gallo); 19-Elvis Abbruscato, 11-Roberto Stellone Cautioned : 66' 3-Gianluca Comotto | | | | | 17-12-06, 09:04 AM | #19 (permalink) | | Used In Squad Rotation Join Date: Nov 2006 Posts: 366 Thanks: 74 Thanked 3 Times in 1 Post | Torino - Empoli 10th of September 2006 Stadio Olimpico, Turin Italian Serie A 2006/2007 - Week 1 77' Masashi Oguro, 83' Stefano Fiore It was a fantastic Serie A opener for Torino as Masashi Oguro's and Stefano Fiore's second half goals in space of six minutes as it ended 2:0. Torino was hoping to have Alessandro Rosina back for the match, but he was ruled out after mornings test. Andre Zuba and Cedric Konan were also missing as the later made a performance for Ivory Coast on Saturday night. Il Granata got off nice, but Ivan Franceschini's shot after a long team move flew over from 30 meters out. After that neither team really did anything until Stefano Fiore made a fantastic run down the right flank, breaking into the box in progress, but his powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Australian Zeljko Kalac. The follow-up fell to Nikola Lazetic who blasted the ball over the goal from six meters. The game level didn't seem to be improving at all, but at the end of the half heartbeats increased when Elvis Abbruscato was sent one on one with Kalac. His shot though flew wide of the goal. At half-time manager Tanel Tursk bringed in Gianluca Comotto for disappointing Fabio Gallo as Stefano Fiore moved behind strikers. That change didn't bring anything new into the game and after 70th minute Tursk saw that if going for a win he needed to make subs so he bringed in Masashi Oguro for a debut alongside usual substitution of Iacopo Balestri. It didn't take long for the Japanese striker to make his mark. Seven miinutes later a Cristiano Lupatelli long kick was flicked to Oguro by Abbruscato as the striker sent the ball near the top corner. Fantastic debut for Oguro! Empoli got their first shot after 82nd minute as Sergio Almiron's free-kick from dangerous position flew wide and over. Though just a minute later a free-kick was given at the other end of the pitch as Elvis Abbruscato was pulled down. Fiore steped up to take it and he sent the ball into the top corner of the net to top off his stellar performance. Empoli couldn't handle Fiore De Ascentis almost made it 3:0, but his long effort flew over in the hot Olimpico stadium as Torino fans celebrated a great victory which puts them first in the table!
