Subsitutes were made so the formation had to shifted to 4-4-2 with Emmanuel Adebayor and Thierry Henry coming into the fray and try to overturn the scoreline for a better second leg at the Emirates, Adebayor then went down at the 70th minute to a Vagras challenge and no penalty was given, so he furiously went to the referee but was waved away. At the 85th minute, just when Bergkamp thought it was going to be his first defeat in his first competitive match, William Gallas played a long ball to Theo Walcott, which picked Adebayor with a cross and Adebayor beat the keeper near post with his head and level the match with 5 minutes to go, and Bergkamp was jumping of his seat when the goal went in. After full time, Dennis Bergkamp had reasons to happy. 19th August 2006 Time for Bergkamp to have his first taste of premireship football management and it was against Charlton Atheletic at home and Dennis Bergkamp decided with the 4-4-2 formation that gave him the draw at Austria and leading the attack was Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet, it didn't take long for a goal to come and David Trezeguet struck the ball past Thomas Myhre with a powerful effort and gave Arsenal the lead, 9minutes into the game. Although Arsenal lead in the half, there were signs of Charlton posing a threat and at the 54th minute, Theo Walcott had to come off after he bruised his ribs after a robust challenge and Arsenal hold on for the 1-0 win and giving Bergkamp his first Premireship win. 23 August 2006 It was time for the second leg of the match against Salzburg and it was the same 4-4-2 formation Ljungberg was the only change as he replaced the injured Theo Walcott and Arsenal were up at the 6th minute through a David Trezeguet goal but Karel Pitak scored 2 goals quickly in the 32nd and 33rd minute to give Salzburg the lead at half time although Thierry Henry had a penalty saved by Timo Ochs, Dennis Bergkamp was fuming with his team at half time and brought out his captain for Emmanuel Adebayor and when the second half restarted, Salzburg retained their dominance and at the 60th minute, Bergkamp brought in 2 new subs in Julio Baptista and Robin Van Persie, which proved to be the difference maker, just when the fans were leaving the stadium, Baptista stuck at the 74th minute and Robin Van Persie showed his talents by striking a goal at the 77th minute to give Arsenal a 3-2 aggregate and allowing the gunnners to go through to the group stages During the UEFA Champions League draw, the Gunners were drawn against Porto, Osasuna and Weder Bremen which caused some fans to worry as it would be a tough group with tough opposition but Weder Bremen was also significently weakened with the sale of their star player Miroslav Klose to Chelsea for 18.5million pounds | 13: Premire league & 1st division titles 10: FA cups 2: League Cups 12: Charity Shields/Community Shields 1: Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (Predecessor of UEFA cup) 1: European cup winners cup Pride of the gunners | | | 13-01-07, 09:39 PM | #3 (permalink) | | Decent Youngster Join Date: Jan 2007 Posts: 12 Thanks: 6 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | I really like how this has been set out, very easy to read.
