This is a tactic a developed a bit while I was at HSV and a bulit a very talented team, so it can only be used properly with having the right players. I recommend that the team has lots of pace and passing ability, a midfield maestro like van der Vaart or Diego, speedy wingers with good crossing and that are also dangerous for the goal. In the strikers department you can choose: 1. A pacey ST/FC with good finishing, passing (a Palacio type of player) and a Target man like Nicklas Bendtner that has a bit of pace also and can head the ball. 2. Two pacey strikers with good passing and finishing (in this case without a target man)
It works fine for me but make sure you have a technically gifted and speedy midfield with solid defence and quality strikers that exploit opposition mistakes quickly and can finish off with great composure. A very good DM is highly recommendable.
I'm just wondering about something... The DM, is it best if he runs - with the ball - as minimal as possible, or should the DM do some running with the ball?
I recommend the DM to fucus more on the defensive duties, as the AMC and the wingers are the responsible for the offensive part. Set your DM to little forward runs and let him do his job in the defense.
