how do you host an online game?

you start a game up as you are going to start a single player game and then go on preferences and tick run as server. Then on the game status screen it wil say a server ip address, give that to the person(S) you want to play with and they then need to go on the network screen and clik on join other server they then need to type that address in that you gave them and then they're in your game.
