Second season disgrace - FMFormation.net - Football Manager

I've complained many times on here before about how I can do so well first season yet completely lose it second. Going for it again because i've never had a response i feel is in line with my various situations, I am completely at a loss in this circumstance and am on the verge of quitting what could potentially be my best ever game because i feel this is the most unrealistic second season, and what I hate most about FM.

First, I won the premiership with Liverpool first season, bringing in Villa, Alves and Vicente (the latter the chairman financed). Torres and Villa scored heaps, and won with a game to spare ahead of Chelsea. I lost the EC to Arsenal despite dominating (every game I lost that season i actually deserved to win, either A) their keeper was on steroids or B) usual 'i get 12 shots on target score 1, they get 2 score 2', i'm sure we're all used to this though!).

Second season, same tactics, bring in Joaquin (to replace Pennant). My team is this - Reina, Aurelio, Agger, Carragher, Alves, Vicente, Alonso, Gerrard, Joaquin, Torres, Villa. A definate improvement, I only changed one player as to avoid upsetting rythm. Now, at 27th November '07 am sitting in 15th place, played 11 won 3, drawn 3, lost 5. Latest result a home loss to Wigan 2-0, before that away loss to Pompey 2-0, home draw to Stoke 1-1, away loss to Spurs 2-0 etc etc.

My position is now 'insecure', I've changed nothing since last season (bar Pennant for Joaquin, a no-brainer positive change) as I've learnt from passed experience. Essentially, I have the entire Spain international midfield and strikeforce, two great wingbacks and strong, consistent centrebacks. I am coimpletely at a loss as to what to do, every game has been an absolute disgrace.

Please, please don't tell me 'it's your tactics' (as these have not changed and i firmly believe the comp doesn't 'crack' them, certainly not after 1 season) or that I have changed my squad too much (as I haven't, only the one good change). WTF are you meant to do? The league is out of my hands already (i've 12 points, Chelsea the leaders with 27). Chelsea have brought in shite players yet still win, win win. As you can tell from my rant this has really frustrated me as there is no reason whatsoever for such a terrible first few months. Any advice please, or else i'll be given the boot by Christmas.

its tactics, u need to change them each season imo, i always used to have 1 good season and then a bad one, but now i change my tactics i dont :D

What happened to Riise? I'd play him instead of Aurelio at left back.

me too, need to player riise, but, i cant see whats going wrong for you there mate because it seems to me that you have a great team, so all i can say, i rekon , if u dont turn things round bt the beggining of jan, u betta leave them before u get sacked and keep some pride, i am sure you will do alot better at another club, but with that squad you deserve to be doing alot better than that.

I've quit that game, couldn't take it any longer! I've no problem losing certain games, and would have been happy with a 2nd or 3rd placed finish but that wasn't going to happen. I really didn't want to resign and sign for another club, putting in all the effort and signing some quality stuff only to hand it over to someone else whilst I joined some other team just doesn't do it for me. I always sell Risse as I get 12m over 12 months for him, good business in my eyes.

Oh well, what can you do? Perhaps i'm just generally a useless manager, wityh that quality at my disposal clearly I'm incompetent! Thanks for the replies

Augustus, you sound like you need to join FMA, check the thread! I know you dont like it but it really is the tactics, i personally change every 6 months or so, remember, the computer does scout your club, just as you can theirs. If you look at their team from a previous game, you'll see they use different players/tactics.

well in my game i always have a storming start to the season and then as soon as february starts i lose loads, in my atletico game now, i've lost the last 7 games, against crap opposition, even bolton knocked me out of the uefa cup 6-1 on aggregate...

I always thought that if i change tactics, it takes more games for the team to get used to them which means more losses...
