Default How to get interested and create a longer game.

How to get interested and create a longer game.

This Is an article on why i think people could get bored with playing FM. If you are like me and you get bored quite easily, I assume that you to probably start about 20 new games per hour and I hope this helps you.

I personally must have started around 30 – 40 games on FM 08 all with different and sometimes the same teams and I end up quitting before I have played my first friendly. Lol.

The first idea that would spring to mind is how we can be so success hungry. For e.g. if you start a game with Arsenal then you a basically guaranteeing your self trophies. Thus meaning if you spend 3-4 seasons at a big club like Arsenal then you will get used to winning every game and going for 20 game unbeaten runs every so often, then you get bored of winning and want a challenge and this is where the trouble starts because you could go from winning the champions league and you want to be there straight away and get the same success that you had before but instead you go on a 5 match losing streak with for (example Forest Green) or any other team that you have played with.

What really doesn’t help matters is when your in bad form. If your like me you will probably get more and more annoyed at every lose that your team suffers, and then end up swearing and telling your self that you aren’t going to play FM again, and of course another game gets started.

Another way to get bored is by getting pi**ed off at not being able to sign the player you wanted. This happened to me one time I was about to sign messi but he went to a different club instead. Its kind of stupid really, getting I a mood cause you may not have got your way. Lol.

Ok so that’s ways that you may have got bored with your FM games now im going to talk about ways to try and get back into FM. :D

The first thing you could try is doing a game in a different league that you haven’t tried before for example I was speaking to john (John10) and he started a new game with Salzburg of Austria and this helped him to get back in FM, so maybe some of you guys could give it a shot.

Another way to get into a new game is by doing a challenge there is hundreds in here Challenge Me - FMFormation.net - Football Manager - FM2008 there is a lot of great challenges in here especially a couple of feddo’s e.g. Beat Miroslav Blažević's achievements..

One more way to get your self interested is by doing a team that you support or a team that you feel strongly about and you know well. Maybe even a local team that plays near you. This way you wont get bored trying to find out what players to sell. This way you will know who you want to bring in and what tactics to use, and try to prove to your self that your better at buying and selling that the current manager.

The last way I can think of is, instead of always buying the same players all the time try buying a young player that you or no one has heard of and try to re-develop the team making it a team that YOU made and not still using the old familiar faces.

Thanks for reading this Article and I hope it helps you!

Comments and feedback are much appreciated!

Nice article Abs.

I go through stages where I'm well into FM then I get bored and don't play it properly for about three weeks.

If I find a really good challenge, then I tend to stick to it. Another game that I tend to keep going back to is a Liverpool one. Everytime, I say to myself that I'm going to do things differently but it never happens, lol.

Nice one Abs, this should help people get back into FM.

very good article! myself i get bored of big teams within 30 minutes of starting, if you know me you know which types of games i like managing teams in: Belarus,Romania, iceland,Finland ect.

i also agree with you abs, doing a set challenge that you want to beat keeps you motivated in the gaem, another way to keep interested is to just pick a completely random team from a completely random league you have never managed before.

Im usually hopeless at keeping a long term game going, I either always become the victim of my own boredness or a crash dump error before I get too far into a career.

I tried doing things a bit differently in my current game. I started off as a National manager with Spain, finishing the E2008 qualifiers then heading off to the Euro Championships with a view of seeing if I could win the comp, and then maybe land a contract at a big club.

However I didnt get a contract at a big club, I instead had the chance to clear up the mess the previous manager at Birmingham had made, getting them relegated and losing most of the first team squad.

Since then I won promotion in the first season winning the playoff final, and at the moment am sat in 11th in the prem and 5th round of Carling Cup. This is one of the first times an FM08 game has kept me hooked for so long.

Great guide there abs BTW!!!

Great article Ab.

I've not been too bad with long term games so far, the secret for me was buying plenty of hot prospects as well as established stars. That way I wanted to see how good they became. That said, I'm not sure I've ever lasted more than 5 seasons at one club.

I agree, starting up with a league you don't know much about keeps everything fresh as well as teaching you a few new things about leagues and clubs around the world.

It's no fun getting battered 4-0 every week though so I've always tried to go for a mid-table team with a bit of potential given the right players...

Anyhow, when I think of the hours of fun this game has given me, even if boredom did set in I can safely say I got more than my moneys worth.

Thanks to Liveru for the sig

Nice article abs, couple of spelling/grammar mistakes but nothing major!

I must admit to having fallen victim to getting bored myself with the odd game now and again.

My latest game I can see lasting a while though as I've approached it a different way. Started off with Leeds and got them promoted in the first season despite the 15 point penalty! However this didn't seem to be enough to satisfy the board and they started to annoy me. At this point I would probably have usually started up a new game, but I noticed myself getting constantly linked in the press with the vacant Bayern Munich position. Decided to apply.

Got accepted and took over, bringing in the usual suspects such as Guilherme, Fernandez, Kuzmanovic and Stancu etc... Played through a season with them at the end of which Manchester United offered me a position which I took. Once again I spent a season with the club, however I just didn't like managing Man Utd so I perused the job boards and noticed a vacancy at Valencia.

Yet again my application was accepted and I negotiated a contract starting at the end of the season so as not to disrupt either team.

I have to say I'm really enjoying this game at the moment, for a couple of reasons. Firstly I'm enjoying checking up on the teams I've previously managed and seeing how the teams I've built are faring, what kind of formations the new manager is using, whether the players I deemed essential are still seen as such, or whether they're offloaded, what type of players are being brought in to compliment my purchases etc...

There's also the fact that a lot of the usual suspects have already been snapped up, there's been a lot of movement of players between teams and it's more challenging to find that gem of a player so scouting becomes more important. It also brings the favourite personnel aspect more into the game as there are a couple of players I've signed twice, and one player in particular who I'm trying to sign for the 3rd time.

For me this is turning out to be my most enjoyable game to date, I like the team I have at Valencia and believe I'll be able to do good things with them. So I'm going to spend some time there and see how things out. But I'm already considering my next move, with Heracles being a strong possibility as on my game they seem to be permanantly without a manager.

I agree with the small team thing.

I often start as:-

Dnipro (Ukraine)
Vauxhall (England)
Raith Rovers (Scotland)
Darlington (England)
Hartlepool (England)
Middlesbrough (England)
Empoli (Italy)

Sometimes I go to Belgium etc for a giggle. Have multiple games on the go and rotate between them
