Overview Glasgow Rangers were founded in 1873 and are the most successful football team in world football history reaching an amazing fifty one league titles in the 2004/2005 season. Rangers achieved European success in 1972 when they won the European Cup Winners Cup. Overall they have won over a hundred major trophies throughout their history
The club's home is one of 29 UEFA five-star stadia, the all-seated Ibrox Stadium in south west Glasgow, with a capacity of 51,444.Rangers players today are multi-national and of various religions, although the club has traditionally been identified with the Protestant Unionist community of Scotland. For most of their history, Rangers have enjoyed a fierce rivalry with their cross-city opponents Celtic F.C.
After a disappoiting season last season Rangers are expected for another struggle in the SPL with close rivals Celtic being tipped for favourites to win the SPL for the second time running. With a transfer kitty or £3.5m and a decent bank balance Rangers could easily capture there 52nd SPL title. Rangers youth developments is also among the best in the world and in recent years the likes of Barry Ferguson, Alan Hutton, Chris Burke, Steven Smith, Charlie Adam and a few other rising Scottish stars have been coming through the ranks at Murray Park and fighting for a first time place. Overall a mini clearance will be required at Ibrox with many players not having the required ability to take the club further and selling the fringe players could easily add to the £3.5m budget to allow some quality players to come to Glasgow.
The Rangers board will not allow for the club to be a feeder club to another team and will not discuss the matter. Although it would be a good idea to ask the board for a feeder club of your own if you are interesting in staying with the gers in the long run. Linfield are there only current feeder club but no real benefits are evident in this partnership. A feeder club where you can send your rising stars would be a great idea and also choose the feeder clubs wisely to enhance the clubs market.
Expectations With a chairman who adores the club it is your job to lead the club he holds in high regard to long-term success and bring back the good old glory days back to Ibrox. The task will be more difficult this season with the likes of Celtic, Hearts and Hibs all having good enough squads to possibly fight for the top place. Both the fans and the board want you to bring the title back but as long as you dont do too badly then you should be offered a new long term contract. The SPL title should be your main aim for the first season and to get past the Euro Cup group stages. With the up and coming stars in the squad and the top notch youth systems any younger players you bring in should be able to progress to there full potential and so Rangers could be back to dominating the SPL in a few years but will always be closely followed by there fierce rivals Celtic.
Overall the expectations are reasonable and can be easily met but if not the fans should still be happy enough for your first season in charge. You should also try and tie down your youngsters to long term contracts and bring in some extra scottish youth for the future. Good training schedules will allow the players to take full advantage of the clubs facilities.
Squad GoalKeepers: Rangers only have two good enough goalkeepers at the start,Lionel Letizi although not so good IRL, on the game is he a good keeper and will be first team at least until Klos come back from injury. The only other fit keeeper at the start is Allan McGregor. The 24 year old Scottish keeper is no where near the standard of Klos or Letizi but could act as back up to the two. He is listed at the start and its up to you whether you want to let him go or keep him as back up for the other ageing keepers. Rangers third goalkeeper Stefan Klos is a fans favourite at Ibrox but at the start is out for 2months but IMO when recovers he should be first choice goalkeeper. Has amazing refelexes and handling but his kicking lets him down.
Defenders: On the right of defence Rangers have Alan Hutton and Phillip Bardsley. Hutton came through the ranks at Ibrox and could be a decent first team regular. Both his attacking and defending stats are quite good and at only 21 years of age there is plenty room for improvement As for Phillip Bardsley, the 21 year old Scottish international is on loan from Man Utd at the start but I recommend trying to tie him down to a longer deal although Man Utd might be reluctant to let him go at first. Bardsley is solid at right back or in the centre but doesnt provide the attacking abilities of Hutton on the right.
Rangers dont have much depth in the centre of defence.Julien Rodriguez and Karl Svensson IMO are the two strongest centre backs. Julien Rodriguez is strong, experienced and reliable and has all the stats needed to become a good solid defender for the team. Karl Svensson is also a quality defender and at only 22 has his best years ahead of him. As for back up in the defence they have Brehim Hemdani who is most natural in midfield but could easily hold down a regular place in the rangers defence.
Sasa Papac and Ian Murray can both play centre of on the left but I feel Papac is no where near the standard of a leading Rangers defender and could be sold to raise funds, if anyone will take him. Murray could be rotated with Smith although the two players are quite different. Steven Smith like to go forward and attack and like Alan Hutton the two wingbacks are fine examples of what can come through the ranks at Rangers.
Best Defender:
Rodriguez Midfield: I think the midfield is the strongest area of Rangers' team. With young scottish wingers on either side in Chris Burke and Charlie Adam, both will develop into great players and even at the start will probably be vital to the team. Both have great dribbling and crossing stats which will bring the striker into play and create the chances needed. On the left there is also Lee Martin on loan from Man Utd but his stats nor performances did not impress for me so I sent him back although he should be kept as back up whilst he is on loan.Libor Sionko is another winger with plenty of experience who should be able to do a good job on the wing. I opted to sell him though which almost doubled my transfer budget and allowed me to bring in new youth. In the middle Rangers have some real quality with captain Barry Ferguson, French youngster Jeremy Clement who will turn out to be a real star for the team and Belgian ace Thomas Buffek who is the most attacking minded of the three.
Best Midfielder:
Barry Ferguson Strikers: Kris Boyd is the main scorer for the club and probably will be the star player for the season. His strength and finishing will mean he will bag 20+ goals in the SPL. Dado Prso is also a quality goalscorer and will bag a fair amount of goals as well. Sebo is the other striker and looks decent enough and still has his best years ahead of him. Overall though I think another quality striker could be brought in to rotate with the current strikers.
Kris Boyd Recommended Tactic:
Recommended Buys: Steven Naismith - 19 - AMR/L ST - £200k - Will bag the goals playing as a ST and chip in with assists playing on the wing. Young, versatile, cheap and has lots of potential
Dagoberto - 23 - AM/FC - £1.4m - Has a low mininmun fee release clause and will bag tons of goals in the SPL and will only get better. A bargian.
Glenn Verbauwhede - 21 - GK - £200k - Good young keeper who will be a great buy and will provide great back up and possible future replacement for the ageing Klos or Letizi
Daniel Andersson 28- D/MC - - £775,000 - Great price for such an experienced team. Will strengthen the defence and midfield and add extra depth to the team.
Pawel Golanski 23 - DL/C - £750,000 - Another quality defender. Will add strength to the back and would be worthy of a first team spot straight away. At still quite a young age, still has time to improve.
Gary Kenneth 19 - DC - 275k - A great young solid scottish defender. Very cheap and still young and will no doubt turn out to be an important firstteam player.
Celsinho 17 - AMRC/FC - £1.7M - If you can afford this player then buy him! Simply amazing, my star player with Rangers from the wing. A must buy.
Recommended Sales There a few fringe players that could be sold but it just depends on who you bring in. I personally would seel Nacho Novo as you can get a fair bit for him and will allow you to bring in a lot better players. Libor Sionko could also be sold as there are much better wingers available but selling him and Novo would mean you would have to bring in a couple of wingers as cover. Sasa Papac could be sold as well as he doesnt loook up to the standard expected at Rangers.
Physique:- 7/10 - The team has some big strong defenders and also with people like Boyd and Prso up front
Depth:- 4/10 - There isnt all that much depth in the team so players will definately need to be brought in
Style of play:- 8/10 - With players like Ferguson and Clement in midfield with some attacking wingbacks and skillful wingers, good attacking football is one of Rangers strong points
Overall:- 6/10 - Overall the team is quite good and might be able to challlenge for the title. But might is not good enough for the fans and bringing in 3 or 4 players will turn this 'might' into 'will'
