Lightbulb Coaching and Training FAQ/Guide - English Version

Coaching and Training Advice

Coaches and Training is different for each division… So I have revamped this to try and fit in with the division’s I have played during my FM start…

As most people just breeze through this and leave it as default. I do feel this is a huge error.

First of all you need to assign your coaching staff correctly. By default they all do everything which is WRONG. Look at what they are best at, such as defence. Attack, Tactics and so on.

Once you have read this and made your schedules SAVE them as you can use them for future games and save yourself a lot of hassle in the future and you can tweak them through out the game.

Always when you look at your player stats in their profile make sure you have “Show training” ticked as this will give you a good impression on where they are improving and require more improvement and allow you to tweak your training schedules more.

When taking over a club in Pre-season you really want to get your players fitness levels up and ready. So maybe a look into getting their training to be on the side of fitness and agility rather than on their positional training. Play the first few warm up games and then about 1-2 weeks before start training the players on their strengths and areas such as Attacking, Defence and so on.

So gradually build the training up in the first half of the season and when you get to xmas it should be what you require but you should never forget to tweak if required.

If you have a long period between games adjust the training as quick as you can at the end of the last match and guide your players towards fitness again. This will not be a huge thing when managing the Premiership but will be more a requirement in lower divisions when you are out of cup matches and so on.

English Premiership and World Class Teams

Whist writing this I have had much feedback on how to assign coaching staff and I can see the pro’s and con’s of all ways.

I shall try to explain a few of them in the best way possible.

First is working out how many different schedules you want such as Defence, WingBacks, Midfield, Attacking Midfield, Strikers, Goal or just a plain Def, Mid, Striker and Goal.

There are good and bad points to these 2 different methods. Lets look at the first option where you have many different roles.

Having this type of set up requires a huge coaching staff and top coaches in all of them and as you may or may not already know trying to hire top staff costs money. The more you hire the less any more coaches want to join your staff and in addition the more you spend in wages.
The good side of this is the fact your players get the specialist training to help improvement. You can also train the players to the best possible to fit their position on the field.

Now lets look at the simplified training method.
Keeping the Training Schedules into a simple format such as def, mid and strikers is a good start if you are not too sure on how and what’s best for your players. It will give your players a good all round training in which they may not develop as fast you are keeping down staff costs.

Also like I have mentioned before a difficult thing to do is to get the coaching staff to come to your club and be able to afford them. If you are Liverpool then yes the money is there but if you are Southampton or a bottom of the Premiership team the money is a lot tighter and maybe looking at the Championship style of setting your training up is a good idea. This could ensure low wages meaning more for players and the board happy with finances.

Assigning Coaches to training schedules.

First thing is too look at the coaching staff and see where their expertise is in such as GoalKeeping, Tactics, Fitness and so on.
If you look at the options you have to assign the coaching staff to teach you will instantly see there are more options that the 5-6 attributes against each coach.
This will tell you that some of the options your coaching staff has cover 2 of the training options.

Rest of FAQ can be downlaoded in link at the top!! :)
(Saves me updating this all the time..sorry!)

Assigning Coach’s to Training Schedules

If you are a Premiership or wealthy club you should aim to have as many coaching staff as possible to cover 1 to each of your schedules.

This will ensure you have the maximum amount of “Star” rating for each position.

Also what will affect this is the actual stats of the coaching staff. For example if you have a Coaching who has 12 in Attacking if you assign him to Attacking on his own he may only rate 2 or 3 stars. If your coach has a rating of 18 then it will be 4 or 5 stars.

Be very careful to also ensure that the higher rated coaching staff gets assigned to their speciality training. So becareful in whom you buy as coaching staff!

If you are lucky to have one of the best all around coaching staff on the game then you may even get away with assigning him to 2 or 3 schedules and not lose any over all star rating.

If you have a lower division club and cant afford to have the best staff or as many to cover everything then you are forced to double up. Pay very close attention to your overall rating for each schedule.

Newly added section to the above.. which is also in the downloadable file :)

The english version has had a new section added to look at the coaching staff attributes and what is the best way for each division.
