Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: palermo,Italy Posts: 2,563 Thanks: 24 Thanked 463 Times in 198 Posts | Creating players in FM08 Editor Before we start this walk through of the editor here are a couple of important things; We recommend that before you start your editing to always back up the original files first, if not and the game gets corrupt by editing something or maybe you edit something wrong then you have the original database to add again rather than reinstalling the game. Another thing to remember is you cannot add new cup competitions or create new leagues as all these things are hard coded into the game. You could edit an existing league and make that into a league that doesn't currently appear on FM. For example you could edit the Dutch leagues to incorporate the J-League, we will explain more about this later. Also note that if you are adding a team to a league then you must remove someone else, you cannot change the league structure at all that includes point systems and the number of teams. On some screens it may say `save changes’ at the bottom of a particular screen at times, if this is the case and you have made changes remember to press this or the changes will not take effect. Firstly, we’ll show you how to create a player. This is one of the most common uses of the Data Editor, and is equally just as simple. To begin with, you need to navigate to your Football Manager 2008 folder (C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2008 by default) and open up the ‘fm data editor’. Then you need to click ‘file’ and ‘load data’. This should pop-up a window which you use to select the data to load. Select ‘server_db’ and click open. (Note: If this is your first time editing FM 2008, you should be prompted to backup your database before you actually load the data – we recommend you take this advice very strongly, in the event of any errors or crashes, you could lose all of your data). After you have backed up, your data should then start to load. Once the data has loaded in the editor, to create a player you should click ‘Create’ and then ‘Person’. This should then take you to a page that looks like a questionnaire form. This is where you actually create your player, and give them a personality. If you look on the left hand side it should say `Person’ if you click that it should expand and you will see six new sub menus appear. The six parts of this are; 1. Details 2. Contract 3. Attributes 4. History 5. Preferences 6. Confidence 1. Details First Name: The person’s first name Second Name: The person’s surname Common Name: The person’s nickname (see Ronaldinho or Ronaldo for examples). DOB: The person’s Date of Birth (dd/mm/yyyy). Place of Birth: The city, town or village where the person was born. Classification: Player, Non-Player or Official. Player – this person is a football player. Non-Player – this person is involved in football, but not as a player. Examples of this are Coach, Manager, scout and Chairman. Official – this person is a referee or assistant referee. Nationality/Second Nationality – The person’s primary and secondary nationalities. Squad Number – The person’s squad number (if he is to be a player). Not compulsory, if you don’t want him to have one – just enter -1. International Appearances – How many times the person has been capped for his national side International Goals – How many times the person scored for his national side. Under 21's Appearances – How many times the person has been capped for his Under 21's Under 21's Goals – How many times the person scored for the Under 21 side. Declared for Nation – This looks fairly confusing at first, but it’s really quite simple – if the player has definitely decided that he wants to play for his primary nationality – then this box should be ticked. If it isn’t, then the player will be free to play for any secondary nations that he starts the game with, or acquires along the way. International Retirement – If the player has retired from international football, this box should be ticked. 2. Contract Club – The club at which the person is employed, at the start of your FM 2005 game. Job – For Non-players, this is where you say what position they hold at their club. Date Joined - The date he joined the club Contract Started – When the person’s contract started with the club. Contract Ends – When the person’s current contract ends at the club. Club Wage – The weekly wage of the person. Minimum Fee Release – Optional, except in certain leagues – only applies to players. This is the price at which all offers must be accepted for this player. If a club bid at this price, or higher then all bids must be accepted. Co Owned - This only applies to the Italian league, were clubs can co own players. 3. Attributes Note - If you leave a number entry set to 0 then when the game starts these will be randomly generated. Mental - This is the place to set loyalty, controversy, ambition and all the other hidden mental stats Current Reputation - The overall reputation he currently as Home Reputation - Some players have a bigger reputation in the country they play there football in than on the world stage. Henrik Larsson would be a good example when he was at Celtic World Reputation - How well the player is known across the globe Playing Positional - You can determine how good a player is in all positions, it works on a 0-20 scale, with 0 been the lowest for that position and 20 the highest for that position. So for example if it’s a central defender you have created then he would need 20 in the defender box Technical - Here you can set how good the players technical stats are like crossing, heading and finishing, again this works on a 0-20 scale. Non-Technical - Same as above but this is for composure, bravery etc Preferred Moves - You can assign a hidden trick to the player what you might see from time to time on the match engine. Language - This is were you can set the languages a player knows Potential If you are unsure exactly how potential works then here is a small guide to help you decide, but remember 1 is the worse a player can be and 200 is the best a player can be. You can select the exact number of the players potential if you wish and have him so he starts off as a player with maximum potential, but if its randomness you are after then use this; -1 = 0-20 -2 = 10-40 -3 = 30-60 -4 = 50-80 -5 = 70-100 -6 = 90-120 -7 = 110-140 -8 = 130-160 -9 = 150-180 -10 = 170-200 So if you give someone -1 potential then that player will have between 100-110 for potential ability, so when the game starts it can be anywhere in-between that range. 4. History Here you can add all the previous transfers a player might have had in his career and set the transfer value of each move as well. 5. Preferences Favourite Clubs - Clubs a player might have a soft spot for Disliked Clubs - If a player supports Manchester United then he will most likely dislike Manchester City, Arsenal, Leeds and Liverpool as they are all seen as potential rival clubs Favourite Staff - Maybe you want the player to like a particular manager Disliked Staff - The opposite of above Nationalities - You can add more than one nationality to a player 6. Configuration Injury - You can set pre set injuries now, so when you start your game you could make a player begin the game injured Confidence - The boards and fans confidence of a particular player can be set here Transfer - For some players you might want to add a future transfer Loan - For some players you might want to add a future loan These are all the basics you need to know for creating a new player, once you load up the database things should become a bit clearer, after a while you will soon get the hang of it and what you need to do.
