Here we go, seeing as i like movies here are some upcoming movies and there news

Xmen Origins: Wolverine

Quote:
Praise be, glory and hallelujah! The long-mooted and long-awaited (at least by us) Wolverine movie finally has a start date for shooting - this November - and a director - Tsotsi's Gavin Hood. With star Hugh Jackman and writer David Benioff already onboard, it looks like ol' Adamantium Claws' spin-off movie is a reality after all.

The story is set to be an origins tale, about How Logan Got Unbreakable Metal Called Adamantium Welded To His Skeleton, drawing on recent Weapon X graphic novels and some of the Frank Miller touches from Wolvie's own spin-off comic as well - although according to rumour, there's a 'Nam flashback but none of the Japanese stuff.

Reading between the lines, characters we might reasonably expect to see returning are Brian Cox' General Stryker (possibly played by a younger actor to allow for the difference in age) and Tyler Mane's Sabertooth. Comic fans may also feel comfortable in guessing that names like Silverfox and John Wraith are also likely to come into play - but we couldn't possibly comment.

The film is set to start in November for a 2008 release, which could mean we see Wolverine as early as this time next year (if they go at an X-Men: The Last Stand shooting and post-production pace, at least). Which is good news for comic fans, good news for vest manufacturers and very good news for makes of superhold hairspray. Roll on next year!

They have finished filming the film.

Robocop coming back in 2010

Quote:
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM) has signed Darren Aronofsky to direct and David Self to write a new installment for its "RoboCop" franchise. Aronofsky, the director of The Fountain, and Self, the writer of Road to Perdition, make a formidable creative team, fast tracking the RoboCop motion picture and spotlighting it as one of the most anticipated new films for 2010.

The announcement was made today by Mary Parent, Chairman, Worldwide Motion Picture Group, MGM.

In making the announcement Parent said: "Darren is undeniably one of the most talented, original and visceral film makers, and David is one of the greatest writers in Hollywood. All of us at MGM couldn't be more excited."

Phoenix Pictures' Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and David Thwaites will produce "RoboCop." Cale Boyter, Executive Vice President Production at MGM will oversee the project for the studio.

Phoenix Pictures' Chairman and CEO Mike Medavoy said: "After making the first 'RoboCop' at Orion more than 20 years ago, I'm thrilled to be helping to return this character to the screen with our partners at MGM and through the eyes of Darren Aronofsky and David Self."

Phoenix co-presidents Brad Fischer and David Thwaites added: "With a filmmaker of Darren Aronofsky's vision and imagination and a writer of David Self's caliber, we are poised to bring to the screen an entertaining and provocative film, which will now be under the creative guidance of two of the best storytellers working in our industry today."

The original RoboCop, which premiered in 1987, was "part man, part machine and all cop." The film's storyline focused on the future of law enforcement as a terminally wounded cop returns to the police force as a powerful cyborg haunted by submerged memories. The original film was nominated for two Academy Awards -- Best Film Editing and Best Sound.

New Muppet Movie

Quote:
When we reported last week that Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nick Stoller and writer/star Jason Segel had signed on to develop the next Muppet movie, I speculated that these would be the guys to get it right (”The early Muppet films were absolutely genius, but the last few failed due to an attempt to dumb down the plot/jokes to appeal to young viewers”). Segel spoke with MTV, and his views seemed to mirror my early thoughts.

“I’ve just grown a little disappointed with ‘Muppets in the Old West,’ ‘Muppets Under Water,’ and all these weird concept movies. I just want to go take it back to the early 80’s, when it was about the Muppets trying to put on a show. That’s what I’m trying to bring back,” said Segel, who also wants to bring back the big name cameos of the earlier films. “All of our friends that I’ve brought it up to are pretty excited by the prospect of it. Everyone loves the Muppets; they’ve got a warm place in most people’s hearts. We want a lot of cameos. You look back at Charles Grodin, Charles Durning, there were just such great performances in those movies.” “We’ve got a great plot. I think if we can execute it right, it will be terrific. But I can’t tell you more - it’s top secret.”

When asked if he plans to star as the lead human role in the new film, Segel admitted “We haven’t figured that out yet. Right now, we’re just focused on trying to turn in an amazing script.” Segel would only say that the plot would focus on Kermit the Frog (duh). And if Segel has not yet convinced you that he might have the vision to make the next big muppet film, I think this next quote will:

“I remember thinking that Kermit was the original Tom Hanks - he was the everyman for a kid. I remember watching Kermit and thinking ‘That’s what I want to do when I grow up.’ I don’t think I realized he was a puppet.”

One of the fey factors of the original muppet movies was that the muppets were treated like normal people in the real world, and I think Jason gets that. The later films focused on Muppets being part of these magical fantasy worlds (be it Pirates, Oz, or Treasure Island).

Captain America (2011)

Quote:
Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige revealed today that the Captain America movie will be a period film, set during World War II. I’ve never read any Captain America, but some of my friends who are really into the series have insisted that a WWII period setting would be the only way to do the story justice.

This basically confirms that Marvel will be sticking close to the original origin story which involved Steve Rogers volunteering to be a test subject in Operation: Rebirth, a top-secret defense project for the U.S. Army. Rogers took a Super-Soldier serum which altered his physiology, turning him into a “nearly perfect human being”. Unable to duplicate the process, the United States government turned Rogers into a superhero who served as “both a counter-intelligence agent and a propaganda symbol to counter Nazi Germany’s head of terrorist operations, the Red Skull.”

The First Avenger: Captain America (and not Captain America: The First Avenger, which sounds infinitely better) is scheduled to hit theaters in May 6th 2011, just weeks before Marvel’s superhero team-up film The Avengers hits screens in July. It’s assumed that the film will likely end with a cliffhanger. In the comic series The Avengers discovered Steve Rogers’ body in a block of ice in the North Atlantic years after his supposed death, and were able to revive him. It’s assumed that a similar situation will probably happen to bridge the two movies, especially considering that The Avengers takes place in modern day. But Feige promises that you won’t need to see any of the other films to understand The Avengers:

“Each of them have to stand on their own,” Feige said. “You won’t have to have seen any of the films to understand The Avengers… but it will help.”

Feige also confirmed that Matthew McConaughey is not in consideration for the film adaptation as was rumored on CinemaBlend weeks back. That should make fans happy. You can read more about Feige’s “State of the Marvel Address”

Tron 2 Announced

Quote:
There have been a number of rumblings in the film news world about another Tron film being released by Disney, including word that it would be in 3D, and even that Jeff Bridges was going to be hearing a pitch about a sequel. No actual information had been confirmed though.

Until now.

Courtesy of the folks at Disney, Comic Con got a surprise look at a scene from the film. The teaser starts off with the camera panning through a strange stylized landscape. At this point, nobody knew what we were watching, so only silence filled the hall. And then, two blue/yellow suit-wearing motorcyclists burst into frame, engaged in a frenzy of a race. Audiences erupted in applause.

The race continues to grow heated between the two players until the yellow guy finds a way to swerve in front of the blue, leaving his yellow race trail behind him. The blue guy smashes into it and causes sort of an electric ripple, launching him over the edge of the track. He grabs on a ledge, just barely holding on.

We then see a bearded Jeff Bridges in his house, sitting calmly with his legs crossed.

Back to the virtual world, we see the yellow guy standing over the blue. His visor lifts up, revealing Bridges underneath. The blue guy shouts, “This is just a game!” Bridges looks down, smiles, and pulls out a glowing yellow circular disc (fans will probably know the name of this thing). Looking at the camera, he swings the disc down violently and the title lights up on screen: Tr2n.

Stupid title aside, this clip was easily enough to highten my anticipation for this film. Not only is it just incredibly awesome to see Jeff Bridges go back to a character he played before he was a household name, but the way the graphics have been updated is slick without being unfaithful to the original. In a way, I’ve been convinced the sequel is no longer an unnecessary Hollywood cashgrab, because the contrast between the old and the new is very reminiscent of what recent generations have been experiencing with constantly updated video game graphics/technology.

Apparently, it will be about a year until any other footage for the film will be seen. Hopefully this means Disney is planning on having a full-on panel presentation next year.

Red Sonja Poster Revealed

Quote:
Robert Rodriguez, Rose McGowan, and director Douglas Aarniokoski sat down to answer a bunch of questions from fans about Red Sonja at Comic Con today, and also took the liberty of showing off some of the teaser poster artwork they had come up with. Putting aside the bizarre coincidence that one of the teasers was the third poster this week to play up the hot-girl-licks-dripping-blood theme (complete with the contrast of the pale white skin against the harsh red hues), the artwork on display amounted to some damn fine looking imagery. I particularly like the shot of McGowan sitting on a mountain of skulls with her glowing red hair blowing in the wind. Morbid, yet also kind of hot.

There were also some rather cool tidbits that seeped through the cracks in regards to the visual style of the film and what kind of prep they’ve been doing to prepare for filming in the months ahead.

But first, for those wondering why Robert Rodriguez isn’t directing the film, it’s not by choice. He has a contract still going that requires his next film to be with the Weinsteins, and thus he is unable to work on this at the same time. This lead to his decision to have Douglas Aarnioko (Rodriguez’s first assistant director on everything from From Dusk Till Dawn to Spy Kids) helm the film. At the same time, I got the impression this was just a clever ruse for Rodriguez to direct the film while avoiding any legal trouble. It wouldn’t be the first time he decided to try something so unconventional, what with him dropping out of the DGA due to issues with his invention of the “special guest director” credit with Quentin Tarantino on Sin City. Compared to Aarniokoski, Rodriguez was clearly the more enthusiastic of the two, harboring a deep love of the source material and professing that his stamp on the material would definitely be noticeable.

As far as where the current stage the film is at right now, it was announced that Rodriguez and Aarniokoski had been scouting locations across the country for the past three weeks, while Rose McGowan would start her sword training this following week. The big note of interest though came from one of the Q&A participants, who asked if they were going to be incorporating green screen effects like they did on Sin City (or how it was later done with 300). The filmmaking duo explained that they were going to be using both, enhancing the practical locations in a way that differentiates it from other recent sword-and-sandal movies and gives it a unique look that we’ve never seen before. It sounded like they already had something particular in mind, so it will be interesting to see what eventually ends up on screen.

Rodriguez also went on to explain that the film would be very dark, following more along the lines of the novels than the comics. The most important difference between this incarnation and the original, however, came courtesy of Rose McGowan, who noted, “I wont have a mullet.” Bless you for that, Rose. Bless you. McGowan’s contributions didn’t end there either. When going into detail about why she wanted to do the project upon receiving the script, she explained that it’s important to “do what you want to do” instead of focusing simply on being a role model. “And I wanted to take a giant sword and kill a lot of people.”

Another interesting tidbit she offered up was a hint at what kind of action we could expect, referencing that it would be similar in ways to the free-running chase sequence that kicked off Casino Royale but with swords. As soon as I heard that I immediately had this mental image of the PS3 game Heavenly Sword, with the red-haired gal sliding across vines and launching in between enemies and various obstacles with stunning visual flair. If the Red Sonja film can capture even a smidgen of that gorgeous style, it’s sure to be an interesting ride.

'Harold & Kumar' set for third puff

Quote:
Harold and Kumar are ready to spark up again.

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" and "Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay" and directed the latter, will return to write and direct a third installment for Mandate Pictures.

Greg Shapiro will return as producer.

Storyline is being kept under wraps.

Stars John Cho and Kal Penn are expected to reprise their roles as the ganja-loving duo because Mandate has options on the actors for the third installment.

New Line, which was folded into Warner Bros. in February, distributed the first two films. Warners will likely distribute the third "Harold and Kumar."

Mandate prexy Nathan Kahane said he is eager to revisit the stoner franchise.

"Thanks to Jon and Hayden, the Harold and Kumar movies pushed envelopes, broke boundaries and connected with fans," he said. "We are so grateful to be back in business with Jon, Hayden and Greg."

First film garnered a cult following, earning $18 million domestically in 2004 and generating more than $30 million in DVD coin. Sequel, which cost $12 million, earned $14.9 million its opening weekend before topping out at $38 million. "Guantanamo Bay" is set for release on DVD on Tuesday.

Gears of War film gains momentum

Quote:
Legendary Pictures is to co-finance and co-produce the big screen Gears of War movie, building confidence that it won't got the way of the Halo film (i.e. down the toilet).

The script for the Gears film is already being drafted by Chris Morgan, the scribe behind Wanted and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Len Wiseman, of Die Hard 4 fame, is attached to direct.

In case the Hollywood jibber-jabber means nothing to you, Legendary Pictures also co-financed Warner Bros. flicks The Dark Knight and Superman returns. They've got the dough, then, and it's all good news for Gears of War's silver screen transition.

We're hoping that Epic's got at least some sort of involvement in the development and script of this one, because lord knows we could do without another crap game-to-film adaptation. Fingers crossed, it could be awesome.

Variety's Cut-Scene blog predicts it'll be in cinemas by 2010. Just in time for Gears of War 3 then, perhaps.

why edit the post, post count it turned off in the About Nothing forum, also why have one long thread of films, when new information can go in a separate thread, that way its easier :D

Wicked stuff there Stuey looking great for fans of robocop terminator and X-men like me

LMAO the original Red Sonja was a hoot with Arnold Schwarzeneger in a secondary role so that should be good too.

But to be totally honest I think the Saw films should be canned especially after 3 and 4 were so pants.

Great work mate!
