YouTube - CSKA Sofia 1-4 Celtic FM08 Geoff Shreeves: I am here with James McMahon, who has just guided Celtic past CSKA Sofia in the UEFA Cup 1st round. James, did you expect to win tonight at all, never mind win by that margin.
James McMahon: Yes I expected to win and yes I expected to win with that margin because I believe we have the quality and strength in our team to do that throughout the rest of the season. Geoff Shreeves: Jefferson Farfan has now scored 9 goals in 9 games for Celtic, did you expect him to be scoring this many?
James McMahon: Yes, that's why I signed him, we needed a good striker who will guarantee at least 20 goals per season to partner Scott McDonald who will guarantee 20 goals too. Geoff Shreeves: Does that mean the the future is not bright for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink?
James McMahon: To be honest, yes, it does mean that. If we get a half decent offer in it will be accepted because he has a poor attitude by formally telling me he wants to leave and not showing up for training. I am hoping for around £4.5m - £5m for him, which I think is fair. Geoff Shreeves: One player the future is bright for is Aiden McGeady. What do you have to say regarding him.
James McMahon: Yes, he will be amazing for us and the fans and myself are really excited by him, but not only by him. We are all also excited about;Paul Caddis; has already proved he is a great player, David Jones; what a signing he has been already, he passes the ball with tremendous technique and Evander Sno; not ready for first team football yet, but will be a great player either next season or the one after. Geoff Shreeves: Thank you James.
James McMahon: No problem mate. All other UEFA Cup games have stilled to be played. Do I need to explain why I am so happy?
Celtic's Scott Cuthbert, who is on loan at Queen Of The South, came 3rd place in the First Division Young Player of the Month.
Albion Rovers' Ben Hutchinson, who is on a 5 month loan deal from Celtic, won the Third Division Player of the Month. Celtic's Jefferson Farfan won the SPL Player of the Month competition. He has been in great form, scoring 4 goals in 4 games. Celtic's Shunsuke Nakamura and Stephen McManus came 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Celtic's Aiden McGeady won the SPL Young Player of the Month award, which could have also gone to Celtic's Paul Caddis or Falkirks Tim Krul, who came 2nd and 3rd respectively. Celtic's James McMahon has won the Mananger of the Month. McMahon has guided Celtic to 8 wins in 8 games since the start of the season. It is his second on the trot now, not bad for a 'rookie' manager.
Celtic have been given a total of £170k for beating CSKA Sofia in the UEFA Cup first round.
