 Ellert Smarason  Ellert Smarason is an Icelandic Central Midfielder who was born in Reykjavik, Iceland on 18.5.1990. he has been dubbed one of the most promisong Icelandic youth players since Barcalona's Eidur Gudjohnsen and Boltons Heišar Helguson.
Ellert currently plays his club football at Knattspyrnufélagiš Vķkingur in the Icelandic Landsbankadeild. He is one of the graduates from the youth system and is also in the Iceland U19 squad.
In Football manager 2008 Smarason is a very hot prospect and his stats increase dramatically, i have seen that over the 4 seasons i have had him at my club he can do a very reliable job. he has got an average on over 7 every season for me.
Smarason plays best as a central midfielder, but he can also do an effective job at Defensive midfield if your squad gets hit by injuries.
Ellert is an extremely good passer of the ball and could be used as a central midfield playmaker his passing is that good, his passing accuracy hasnt gone below 85% over 4 seasons. He also has very high flair and creativity which will help him if used as your playmaker.
He is an Excellent Corner taker with a rating of 19 in this department.
Smarason can be relied to give 110% every game he has a very high work rate, braver and determination.
The only real weakness that Smarason has are his physical stats, he is very weak in this department and only time and good training will help. They are very poor in season 1 and now in the 5th season they have improved somewhat however except for strength, stamina and natural fitness the rest are 10 or below in stats.
Overall Ellert Smarason is an extremely good buy and he will cost you next to nothing, he cost me just £7,000 in January 2007. his value is now £700,000 and a range of top clubs from around Europe want him. Over the seasons his stats have shot up for me and he is a permanent place in my starting line-up at Valur helping to win 4 league titles in the process.
If you are a club from outside of Iceland i believe you cant go wrong with him, his stats will go up greatly and he is a future Icelandic captain i feel as at the age of just 20 he is in the Iceland squad and also the U21 team captain.
