Stephen has come up through the ranks at Manchester City after graduating from the youth academy. He made his first debut in the 2005/2006 season..

In October 2005 Stephen signed a new contract extension due to some impressive performances in the first team. Since Sven Goran Ericksson’s arrival at the City of Manchester stadium, Stephen has been a key performer for the Blues.

At international level, Stephen has represented Ireland 6 times scoring 4 in the process. His first cap came under the short lived reign of Steve” I don’t have a Scooby doo” Staunton February 2006. His first goal for Ireland was scored against Cyprus in October 2006

Stephen seems to be a consistent performer in the game. Yes it does’nt look good for him at Man City at the moment, as he will be out of contract soon but I reckon he would be a great signing for a mid table/relegation scrap club. As you can see his caps with Ireland have increased dramatically. I pick him every match that he is available and is probably one of my best performers.

Stephen plays his best football behind the strikers. I would recommend giving him a free role to let him be creative. He can also play as a AMR, but I have found him not to be as effective in that position.

Creativity – 15

Passing – 16

Technique – 17

First Touch – 16

Composure – 16

Anticipation – 18

All the hallmarks needed for a good AMC. The areas needed to excel in the position he has them.

Flair – 13

Positioning – 14

Dribbling – 12

Work Rate – 13

Influence – 9

Some of the weaknesses may let him down such as positioning which is important in the AMC role. He may also under perform in the big games due to his low influence rating and also his work rate.

In my opinion I think Stephen Ireland is a great little player on Football Manager. He may not be good enough for the top of the table but he would be excellent for any mid table side looking for a creative mid fielder who will perform at a regular basis and will bag you a few goals as well.
