Pétur Georg Markan (Fjölnir)
An altered tactic. The same basics but different details. After the cup group stage, I wrote down the strength and weaknesses of my team and started improving my tactic to the quality of the players. I kept to the same formation but changed a lot of individual player instructions and the team instructions. And it worked. Fredrikstad from Norway, a big favorite to have won this match, failed in every way. In the 30th minute, Fredrikstad gained a free-kick just outside the penalty box and it was Erlend Thorvaldsen who curled it in beautifully. When we took the kick-off, it was one touch football and 45 seconds later, Markan had scored the equalizer. This was a goal after missing a lot of chances, including some sitters.
The second half stayed pretty much the same. Fredrikstad was given the freedom to play the ball freely in defense but whenever they moved up, the players of Fjölnir were setting up a wall which was unbreakable. After 59 minutes, it looked like Fjölnir were getting what they deserved. A perfect combination over the right flank and Larusson who hit the ball hard from a cross. With the help of a small deflection by Gashi, it was Fjölnir who took the lead after a small hour. Unfortunately, just when everyone thought the three points were in the pocket, Fredrikstad managed to get their first real chance in 80 minutes time and it was immediately the equalizer.
Final result of 2-2 with Fjölnir deserving more than a draw.

Still in a happy mood. The tactic is working, players understand what I am asking of them and we play with passion and wanting to win. I would like to play two or three more friendlies to get used to playing against better opponents and to optimize my tactic(s).
